"I can't run anymore,
I give myself to you,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry,
In all my bitterness,
I ignored,
All that's real and true,
All I need is you,
When night falls on me,
I'll not close my eyes,
I'm too alive,
And you're too strong,
I can't lie anymore,
I fall down before you,
I'm sorry,...✗"

The small isles and booths were crowded with people. Every color of kimono you could think of, on every kind of person. Masks seemed to be a favorite among the younger generations, while fans and parasols adorned the older couples and elderly. The mixed glow of the paper lanterns and modern lights gave the early night of stars a dimmer glow than usual.
Children played tag between the different stalls and won goldfish and little trinkets while couples trying different foods and treats of a wide variety of sorts. Everyone speaking at once, enjoying their culture and sharing stories; laughing and enjoying the large array of things to do.

Little ears poked out from under a white and red fox mask of a small boy buying ikayaki. He held his sakura-colored parasol with both hands as he leaned closer into the small booth, watching his prize being cooked before he was to obtain it.

Walking down the isles again, the fox dodged dogs and children alike, not paying much attention as he attempted to devour the grilled squid. It turned out not to be as great as he expected, and after chewing on the thing for a while he threw it away. "What a waist of 790 yen.." He said out loud to himself, glaring down at the trash can that ate his unfinished squid. He actually regretted leaving Chebe at the apartment, there was nothing the little thing wouldn't eat, knowing this he expected the fridge to be empty again when he arrived. Spinning the rod of his parasol between his fingers, he started for the dango shop he had seen just ten minutes ago. But after five minutes of meandering the stalls and finding nothing, he started to get anxious. The taste in his mouth had stuck and it wasn't the good kind. He needed sweets. NOW.
Running, the cursed klutz became an instant hazard to the people around him. But that was forgotten until the kitsune fell flat on his face after turning a corner, a loud crash sounding. His right ankle didn't feel all that great anymore, and as he sat up to try and stand he saw the damage, and felt it.
Turns out his foot had caught on the cord of the small grill of the dango shop he had been looking for, and he had ripped the edges of his flowered kimono. His sakura parasol in the dirt beside him. Ignoring the unhappy tone of the cook the small male looked up, following the pair of feet he had landed in front of. He was almost happy he hadn't run into the person until he found the near-victim of another one of his klutz-based curses. His eyes trailing up to the man's hair, which was a very familiar color.
The smaller male found his cheeks obtaining a light scarlet color as he laid eyes on the one person he had not stopped thinking of in the last few years. He closed his mouth, finding himself unable to utter a word or thought. His mask slightly askew, although mostly in tact, hiding the right side of his face and the hair extensions he had put in that morning before the festival.
He was in the exact predicament he felt inside. The first and only thing he wanted to say at that moment was that he was sorry.

User ImageHaikimaru was looking over a booth of good luck charms with an assistant next to him. It was clear that this one was a human who didn't know of Haiki's real self. The now adult Haiki picked on of the up and looked it over before reading it. It was a bit girly and the heart touch on top suggest that it was a love charm.
The fox asked for two before leaning over and writing something on each. It must have been on of those charms that you wrote the name of the person you wanted to fall in love with you. The purple hair man held onto his charms and grabbed a pall of Taiyaki that his assistant was holding. The assistant only nervously glanced at his boss.
The fox started to move down to the next stall while he had his head turned. He was coming closer and closer to Mitsuko and Haiki didn't know that he was there. His hand didn't cover the names of the people he put on the charms, Mitsuko and Maiara.

It was clear and obvious that the younger fox walking towards him had aged considerably. The hint of boyish features were now completely erased from the young man's face, the other kitsune looked taller[although it may have been just because he was on the ground], and his hair had lengthened as well. The smaller male found his cheeks brightening, and quickly looked away from the model before he could catch a glimpse of those deep indigo eyes and slim jawline.
Untangling his foot from the chord and quickly taking off his sandals, which seemed a bit uncomfortable now, he tried to move it, finding the pain welcoming him again. He thanked his profession, and pressed his thumb into specific points on his ankle. "Itai-.." He muttered under his breath, knowing it would pass. He couldn't heal it, but at least he could relieve the pain for a few hours until he could get the sprain iced. cautiously standing, the boy picked up his shoes, dirt still covering him as he asked for a napkin from the cook, who was beginning to get upset at him for knocking over one of his heated trays of cooking dango. The boy was asking for it.
After swiftly giving an apology the boy turned on his heel to get his parasol. Mistake number two. Running head-first into a tall figure's side the pitiful looking kitsune feel again on his tail, the fox mask falling the rest of the way over the male's face.
A bright scarlet face hid under the red and white of the fox-faced looking mask. It took everything in the kitsune's power to not shake out of nervousness. He knew who it was he had ran into, not that he dared take a peek through the small slits that made up the mask's eyes. The mask's cheerful expression the farthest from what the kitsune was feeling. Although maybe a little inside.. he felt the butterflies shake the dusty cobwebs that had formed around the old kitsune's heart. He could stand it no longer, and felt his right hand tighten into a fist on the ground beside him as he lifted the other to the chin of the white and red fox. The boy peeked out from behind his hiding spot and almost froze, noticing his dark forest-sapphires had gone immediately to the taller kitune's own royal-colored gems.
"H-.. H-Haikimaru-sama." the boy found his lips forming the words on their own, making his heart almost explode as he felt the man's name on his tongue again. He had been unable to speak it after they went their separate ways. But Mitsu had never forgotten, or longed for anyone else more.
After a few seconds the older kitsune found his face almost entirely crimson, but unable to look away from the other. His heart rate like that of a speeding train. He thought he was going to die of a heart attack.
He hadn't noticed the love charms the other held, nor the fact he hadn't remembered to breath for the last fifteen seconds or more. The short male already lost in Haikimaru's gaze.
His parasol in front of the younger Kitsune forgotten for the time being.

User ImageHaikimaru was shocked when someone hit into him. It didn't happen a lot no matter how often it was shown in shojo manga. The fox dropped his charms. "Ah, Mr. Taninaka." The assistant said in English. It was proof that Haiki was working in the US. The purple haired adult turned to Mitsuko and put a hand on his shoulders. At first thinking that it was a girl wearing a mask of a fox.
It was a little unnerving that humans wore mask as if they were one of his kind and Haiki thought it was another human. Maybe even a fan that he should push away. Then those eyes looked up at him. The taller fox recognized those eyes right away and handed his assistant the charms to hold while Haiki wrapped his arms around his former roommate. Words didn't need to be said for the model to know who it was in his arms. Haiki drew the his arms around Mitsuko and hugged him.
The Assistant in the mean while looked at the bookmark like charms and read the names on them. "Maiara, ah this one seems to be in Japanese." Haiki only had been in only a few relationships while he was in the US and it was a good guess who was on the charm.
Haiki leaned over to Mitsuko's ear and whispered into it like he was saying a secret. "It looks like that love charm worked after all." He commented in his flirty voice. The fox scoped Mitsuko into his arms. "Come on. Lets find a bench to sit down on." He told the servant. He started to move away from the stalls and soon found a bench where he put Mitsuko on top of. "Are you okay?" He questioned.

At first the kitsune thought he was dreaming. That he would wake up and it had all been a dream, that Haikimaru would disappear forever. Just an illusion the fox had created in his mind..

He was surprised that the Haikimaru-illusion didn't vanish and instead embraced him warmly. Taking a breath, after realizing he would probably faint if he didn't, Mitsuko let the other hold him. Between the cool night and his mind-made sanctuary.. he much preferred the warmth of the imaginary kitsune's arms wrapped around him. At that point nothing mattered anymore. Although the sudden shock of running into his old roommate here of all places was still processing through Mitsu's mind.. He heard a light whisper from the man's lips, taking all of his attention to listen, catching every small, sweet word spoken.
The kitsune took in a startled breath as he was picked up and held close. His hands going to cling tightly to the taller male's black kimono. He of course, didn't want to fall.. not that he didn't trust the younger fox. He became aware of his fall from before, and became worried he was getting the kitsune's own kimono dirty. He was still to shocked to speak, respectively, and instead kept quiet as he was taken away from the angry shop keeper.
His mind came back to the whispered words of his ex. Love charm? He had never remembered his roommate being one for cheep charms and potions humans sold for profit. He never even heard of one working.. He thought of this for a while longer before snapping back to attention as he was released, placed down, and spoken to. He didn't want to leave the other's safe, comforting hold, but let it happen. Like an emotionless zombie, the boy's eyes were slightly glazed, not the slightest hint of red on his face now.
Are you okay?
That was the real question.. Was he okay? He couldn't tell anymore. He guessed he was sense his roommate saved him and intoxicated him with his scent and all around being there. But at the same time he wasn't seeing as he was a filthy mess with a ripped kimono, sprained ankle, and jumbled thoughts.. that and his angel had let go of him.
The boy bit his lip, letting his eyes stray down to his bare feet. "I think so.." He said, completely unsure of himself. But his mind caught up to him finally, questions poisoning his thoughts.
Why was he here?
Where had he been all this time?
What had happened sense then?
What did he mean "the love charm worked"?
Who was he with?
When did he become so much more attractive?
Why did they have to meet now of all times?

Haikimaru relaxed a bit once he was sure that his former roommate was fine. "Here eat a little." The man commented as he took the Taiyaki box and handed it to Mitsuko to get some food. It was humid in Tokyo unlike the US so they were pretty warm. Haikimaru took the things from his assistant and set them down on the bench. "Get a water bottle and try to find some cloth." He ordered before the assistant walked away. His English was much better from when he was in high school. Haiki looked over what was wrong. He moved Mitsuko's kimono around so it wasn't as big of a mess as it was before. Haiki used his body to hide it from eyes that may be watching them. The fox then started to looked at the boys ankle. There wasn't much he could do and he waited till his assistant came back.
Once the servant was back Haiki took the rag and dipped it in the water. He started to wash the dirt off his former boyfriend. "I missed you." the fox said as he started to clean. "It's been a while. How have you been? Have you been eating well?" Haiki probably sounded like a mother or a wife worried over their child or husband.

The boy's attention was quickly caught by the other, his eyes snapping back to the younger kitsune as he felt a slight change. He was worried? It was a possibility. He didn't except the Haikimaru he knew back then the still worry as he had so long ago. He had asked him to stop.. but now that he thought about it he rather enjoyed knowing his roommate's thoughts were of him and not someone else.. until he met Maiara and Cam.. that had ended on a sour note.. but he didn't regret what he did. It was good fun at the time.. although he wished they had fought some more. It didn't even have to be about something personal either.
The fox sighed, missing the days of getting rough-housed, fought to the death, and threatened 24-7 with not a care in the world.. of being the bad guy.
He opened the warm box that was given to him, noticing the familiar smells wafting from it's contents. He found himself almost unconsciously lightly touching his tongue to his bottom lip before taking one out, hardly noticing this gesture as he took a small bite of the fish-shaped pastry. Setting aside the box and closing it.
He remembered the first time he ate a waffle in the US. It was similar to a Taiyaki, only.. inside out. He smiled at this slightly.. which was a rarity on his part.
The small kitsune looked up as he ate slowly, listening to Haikimaru speak to the American he was with. He got chills just listening to the language. Although he was without his faults still on learning all of English, he could grasp most of what was being said. Youtube and the World Wide Web helped progress his "language barrier" and knowledge of the American's language, making it easier on him to learn it much faster than what he was doing alone. Mitsuko actually noticed improvement in his ex boyfriend's skills in English as well.
But the male looked back to his food before his gaze was spotted. He almost blossomed bright shades of red on his cheeks once more, but caught himself, pulling down his mask a bit in order to shade himself from the younger kitsune's gaze if possible. He swallowed, taking another bite before becoming suspicious. He felt a light wind wrap around his neck and hair, lightly swaying his kimono in the breeze, along with what was hidden in his sleeves. With the fresh breeze and emptiness of a feeling he half expected to look up and find he was alone again. But upon finding what he longed most of all still with him he bit back to urge to ask questions. He just wished for the moment to last. To be able to set eyes over his long-[attempted-to-be-]forgotten addiction not caring whether he'd regret it later or not.
He remembered what this Haikimaru had said, of love charms. Now he couldn't help but understand. A small slip of paper burning deep in his right sleeve which seemed oughly heavy at the moment of remembrance. The boy shoved the rest of his red-bean-filled cake in his cheeks as he closed the mask down between him and Haikimaru, chewing furiously to get rid of the treat before the servant returned with what was requested.
Finishing the cake, the fox followed the man's hands from the thin slits, now noticing his nails to be painted as his were. Watched as he let the water fuse with the rag before being taken to wash away the dirt which had strayed from the ground to encase his pale skin.
He listened to his former roommate's words, hanging on every last one, glad the mask served as a wall between them. His heart almost stopped. At least now he could compose his flustered face and focus without being tormented to look softly at the other kitsune he couldn't hide his butterflies from even with a million years of practice. At least he confirmed one thing. Haikimaru did think of him.. even if this was a dream. He happily let the resurfaced feeling in his stomach grow.
His right hand, free from holding his mask in place, was set at his side on the bench in a nervous fist. But the left one stayed, pinning the red and white fox-like face over the human one. He continued to listen, watching the other's hands glide smoothly to erase what was once unclean.
Which also reminded him. He hadn't changed much in height or looks at all compared to him.. besides the fact he had gained a few pounds and didn't look like just skin and bones anymore. He did eat regularly now.. although probably not as much as he should.
The boy nodded, quickly remembering he had to answer. The male choose his words carefully. "I've been better," he lied, although he probably had been three or four years ago, "things are so-so.. Job hunting could be easier." He admitted at the end, although he said it like it wasn't much of a problem. Which it wasn't, but it still felt good to express something real, to vent. Even if it was small. But it wasn't what he wanted to say at all.. His heart, below in the abyss he made through the years of loneliness, cried out to be heard. He wanted to tackle Haikimaru, tell him everything. Be a child in front of the younger fox, he didn't care as much as he had thought things through before.. telling himself lies when they left each other's lives in almost complete silence. He wanted things as it use to be.
But he couldn't tell anyone that. He knew not to trust anyone with his feelings anymore than he would trust someone with a green lantern and a power ring. Who knew what they would be capable of..
But a light still flickered in the depths of his heart, "Haikimaru isn't like other people."

Haikimaru finished cleaning his ex-lovers foot and pulled away before making sure that his shoe was on right before moving away. He then looked up at Mitsuko like he was a princess and Haiki was the prince who was waiting on his fair lady hand and foot. He even leaned down and kissed it out of passion then looked up into Mitsuko's eyes with the same passion before moving away.
"I should probably leave you. I'm a terrible person who does deserve love anymore." He commented. "I've only been in love with two people in my life. You and Maiara. One male, one female." He told this little fox friend. "Do you want me to take you home or leave you here?" He didn't feel it was his right to request anymore than that. Haiki took his right hand and touched Mitsuko's cheek before letting it free.
He looked at his assistant then back at Mitsuko. "I've been having bad luck with getting a good assistant who is smart enough to know what two plus two is." Haiki commented about how he's been doing. "He's my fifth this year. I just call them it's now."

Feeling some confidence upon having spoken, the kitsune let the mask slide over his side-ways bun. Exposing his face halfway to the world once again as he watched shyly down at his previous roommate gently finish his wash and re-shoe him. His mind flashing to a memory of the American folktale of Cinderella.

In all honesty he couldn't help but feel a connection. A spark. He knew what he wanted, and his barriers that took him years to built up and suppress only took seconds for Haikimaru to dissolve and let his eyes show his true emotions.. no matter how little he knew about them. He felt himself go pale at the mention of Haikimaru leaving. He couldn't help but let a little gasp escape before he went red with embarrassment. He wanted to tell him not to go. To stay with him. But he knew pleading wouldn't solve anything or express anything positive about himself besides being a coward all to eager and desperate.
It pained Mitsuko seeing his past lover hurt himself. He hated it. He wish he'd stop.. but he found himself unable to speak the words he wanted spoken. But as the kitsune was finished speaking, he found a small bit of joy in all the sorrow. He had been the first. He was Haikimaru's first love. Not anyone else.

He kept still as Haikimaru's fingertips grazed over his skin lightly before moving away. The kitsune leaned forward to follow the slight warmth. His eyes opening to look into the purple-haired fox's eyes. "Take me home!" He said all to eagerly, his blush not making anything better. As he realized what he said could be taken two different ways, he quickly caught himself, "Walk home with me, please.." He said, 'I won't ask for anything more.. just let me have a little more time.' he left himself thinking.
Why did this hallucination have to tease him so badly, make him ache for more? Then he realized.. that was how he remembered the younger kitsune. It had always been that way, and it seemed nothing was going to change that.
Hallucination or not, Mitsuko was determined to be with what he craved most.. so even if he woke up he'd be somewhat satisfied with having something to think about instead of just an awkward meeting after the festival.
He listened to the other, standing and burning deep inside to hold the other's hand as he let his hands slip into his own kimono sleeves. "We can.. talk on the way." he stumbled, but managed as he started toward downtown Tokyo, the Yaesu Fujiya hotel plainly seen in the distance from the Tokyo station and JR. "I'm just renting a room for the night in Tokyo." He explained, "Yaesu Fujiya Hotel.. you probably know it. Roughly just a few minutes from here.." The kitsune then grew silent, wanting to say more and share more than he thought would be necessary. There was always to much to speak of, to much to know. He had searched and searched and still hasn't discovered why emotions made you do crazy things. He blamed himself for being to human. He was becoming soft. Perhaps a re-run of Godzilla attacking Tokyo in Fox-form would make him feel better. He had thought of it once or twice.. but it would bring to much attention to himself.. he wished it wouldn't.. If he waited long enough he couldn't plan it all out in his head and take over the world if he wanted too. It would show them who was top-fox around Japan.. but those thoughts were for times when he wasn't hysterically imagining illusions of Haikimaru because he probably fell on his head to hard when he fell at the dango shop.. He was probably on his way to the hospital right now.. it seemed fairly more reasonable then a chance-meeting with his one and only prince charming as humans would call it.. He couldn't help but blush at that.

Haikimaru heard everything that Mitsuko said down to the hotel. He was at the same hotel, but he didn't want Mitsuko to know that. It was just heart break for the two of them. Mitsuko didn't care for Haiki and Haiki didn't want to get Mitsuko involved with his world. The kitsune stood up and offered his hand to his former lover.
"I'll take you to the hotel." He promised. Maybe even if they were never together again there was a chance they could be friends. Haiki could leave his cellphone number with Mitsuko for him to call the purple haired man. Then again it was only a hope.

MITSUKO L. TOSHI

Following the taller kitsune with his eyes, Mitsuko felt a sense of uneasiness from Haikimaru as he stood and held out his hand for him to take. The fox took it, as if someone else would snatch his ex's hand before he could and with it his hope that the other still felt for him. But after a moment of interlocking fingers with the model he almost felt like he wasn't him for a moment, that this wasn't happening. Not believing he was quite all there, the kitsune now knew he was dreaming. He attempted to squeeze the taller male's hand, but only mustered a small change in his grip. So instead the boy stood closer to the other kitsune, hoping he would catch on like he usually did and take charge for the both of them.. But more and more it seemed the smaller male would have to take charge himself if Haikimaru continued to refuse.. even if just for old times sake.
"Although I'd much rather you stayed longer." the boy let slip, bitting his bottom lip nervously before glancing up to see for the younger kitsune's reaction. He kept an even pace as they walked, keeping so it was casual.. He was in no hurry for Haikimaru to leave him again, or even think about the idea.
Already the smaller male was caught up again in the other's features, tracing over everything as if not to miss a single detail or else it be lost in the receding lights that danced around the city.
Already he made it a determination not to forget Haikimaru's face, even though the picture he held onto was always on him. The picture of the boy he loved, asleep, again feeling heavier in his sleeve. When he took it was anyone's guess. But he treasured it like nothing else besides this moment with the one in the picture, walking home under the lights of Tokyo and the night sky.

Haikimaru started his trip with Mitsuko. Walking the direction of the hotel. He wasn't sure what he was going to do afterwords. This Assistant followed behind them not totally sure where they were going, but trusting his boss. Haiki wanted some privacy he switched into speaking Japanese. "So what do you want to talk about?" He asked after Mitsuko said he wanted him to stay longer.
It would be really nice if what he meant by longer to be forever, but that was a dream. He couldn't stay in Japan for too much longer. He had a job to do and Mitsuko probably wanted to stay in the country.

MITSUKO L. TOSHI

The kitsune wasn't taking anything he threw at him. Maybe he didn't care for Mitsuko anymore like he said before about not deserving love.
Without much to say besides his feelings, the fox resorted to asking questions. His first right off the bat a tough one. He tightened his grip on the man's hand to get the courage to speak his mind clearly. "I want to know many things. But you've always been on my mind ever sense you left.. I want to know if your going to leave me again." The old fox let his sullen eyes stay grounded. First the male was talking of love charms, then treated him like a princess, now it seemed he was letting things lie. As if he never loved at all or even thought of it. Why did Haikimaru have to be so difficult?
He'd much rather stay with Haikimaru, illusion or not. He'd cross the sea's for him, and that was saying something seeing as he couldn't surpass his fear of drowning.. or his lack of knowledge of the doggy-paddle. He wanted desperately to stay at his ex's side even if it meant he had to search the entire world to find him again.. Although he'd done a good job of trying to find him first.. He hated himself for that. He had become reclusive and detached from the world as he had done so before he met the younger kitsune. Now he made a promise never to do it again. Even if his angel turned out to be a demon, he would not mope of it or feel sorry for himself. He would forget everything and start over from the beginning.

Haikimaru could feel the numbness in his hand as he was squeezed. Mitsuko wasn't going to let go just like that once they go to the hotel. The the fox's heart sank as his former lover asked about him going again. Haikimaru wanted to say no and that he would be at Mitsuko's side forever and ever, but that would have been a lie and he was trying to make himself a new.
"I don't want to leave, but I'm working as a model and I have to do work. The only way you can stay with me is if you are willing to be my assistant and travel the world with me. Then again you probably like it here in Japan then Paris and Milan and all those places." Haiki answered he want to hear the little fox to say that he wanted to come with him and be with him.
