Dear Diary~ 3/12/1983

We've been raided by the Blood Omens again. They took a dozen of our women and burned down the temple to Ajura...again. My lovely Rin was able to hide from them, but she's been going on about how guilty she feels and that she should have joined them. One of these days, I'll stop the Blood Omens and save this town from that terrible Baron. I swear it now as an oath, aloud and here in this diary:

I will vanquish Baron Addams and every one of his Blood Omens or die trying.

~Signed,
Riketz Armand, Swordsman of Jocham, Pinac.

Dear Diary~ 3/19/1983

That accursed vampire has gone too far! Today he declared that every able-bodied male in the barony be put to labor in the gold mines. He's been seizing everyone up, and with no weapons to defend themselves, since weapons were illegalized in Jocham, they couldn't put up much of a fight against armed and mounted vampires.
Little do they know I've broken their law and have forged my own two swords, made from the bones of monsters. They'll seize up the other half of us today, or so he thinks. I'll have a surprise in store for his Blood Omens.

Signed,
Riketz Armand, Swordsman (and perhaps Savior) of Jocham, Pinac.

Dear Diary~ 3/20/1983

We did it! We repelled those wicked demons!

...I suppose I should start from the beginning.
The Blood Omens returned to take us all to mines and just as they had come to shackle us, I drew my dual swords and jumped into the air, cutting the head off of one of them. His body turned to ash immediately as his steed ran wildly out of the town gates. I could see the shock in their blood red eyes as they watched me cut down their companion. Their shock didn't last long, however, as they began to charge at me, swords drawn. I ducked and weaved and rolled under their attacks, having a hard time connecting an attack on the evil baron's knights.
Lo and behold, as I thought I'd be sundered by the b*****d sword of one of those b*****d Blood Omens, his head exploded violently, turning the rest of him to ash.

As a side note: I always wondered why their armor turned to ash with them...was it magically built to do that, or was the armor merely a glamer that fell when they did?

Regardless, the source of the explosion was none other than my beautiful Rin! The device her father had been building this whole time was some sort of portable arbalest, it seems, as she began firing ammunition from its barrel and gave me the much-needed support that allowed me to finish the rest of them off.
One of them rode off, back to the castle. I didn't care at the time, though. Let the baron know...let him fear us, because we can fight back.
We can fight back...and win.

Dear Diary~ 3/21/1983

Rin and I raided the mines today. We ambushed the Blood Omens guarding the mines and freed the townsmen. I was getting the hang of fighting mounted opponents, and ended up killing more than Rin did this time. She and I make an amazing team. If it weren't for that, I'd probably refuse her help on the field of battle, since I don't want her to get hurt. Still, she seems to be capable enough with that "Bowgun" weapon, so I'll trust her ability for now.
We're well on our way to taking back the town! The men have resumed forging iron weapons and we've begun to fortify Jocham for the impending invasion.
There is no doubt that Baron Addams is furious right now. Rin and I will soon send him back to hell and free Jocham for good!

Singed,
Riketz Armand, Hero of Jocham, Pinac.

Dear Diary~ 3/24/1983

A travelling knight named Hander visited us today. He didn't say whether his name was a family name or his given name, only that we call him Hander.
He saw our fortifications and asked us what was going on. After we told him, he agreed to lend his lance to our cause.
Excelent! Another warrior who will fight for the common good!

In other...somewhat overwhelming news, Rin informed me that she was pregnant today. She's only fourteen, so I'm worried about how well she'll handle it. Moreover, how I'll handle it. Should I let her join in the battle knowing that she is with child? Regardless, I need to get some rest. The Blood Omens will surely arrive tomorrow.

Dear Diary~ 3/25/1983

It was brutal out there today. The Blood Omens surprised us by marching at dawn, which was unusually dark due to some sort of supernatural fog. I don't doubt for a second that it was the Baron's evil magic.
They charged against our battlements and felled a few of our men. Luckilly, Rin held them back from the watchtower with that weapon of hers. I'm kind of glad she defied my order and joined us. We may have lost without her.
That's not to say that Sir Hander was of no use... While exceptionally arrogant and rude, he did not exaggerate when he described his skill as a fighter. He jousted several of the mounted knights without so much as a steed under his a**. Hander and the night shift are watching the gates for now. We've repelled them, but they seem to keep coming. I could almost swear that I've killed the same vampire more than once. Probably just the stress getting to me.

Dear Diary~ 3/28/1933

I'm sorry that I haven't been writing much lately. We've suffered serious casualties since my last entry and have realized that every Blood Omen we kill has come back to undeath thanks to the Baron's evil magic. I haven't seen the sun in three days. I'm beginning to worry about our chances. Still, Rin and Hander are still at my side, so I'm sure we'll work something out. Hander has suggested attacking the castle, though I'm not sure if we can leave the gates undefended for that long.
On the other hand, if we continue like this, we'll just keep losing men until the gates fall.
We'll discuss our plans tomorrow, and likely act on them immediately.

Dear Diary~ 3/30/1983

We decided to attack the castle.

Hander and Rin stayed behind to defend the gates while I took two of our men, farmers who had learned to use pitchforks as spears, to the castle in an attempt to assassinate the Baron.

We managed to cut our way past the tireless army of respawning vampires and made it up to the Baron's castle up on the hill. Just as we'd feared, every Blood Omen we slew spawned inside the castle and charged out of the gates as if nothing had ever happened.
Me and my men My men and I snuck inside and made it to the throne room. The Baron welcomed us in and stopped his ritual. He admitted to reviving his knights with evil magic borrowed from some dark god of Night...I don't really remember a lot of what he said. To me, he was spouting nonsense and was likely only speaking to hear his own voice.
I told him that Jocham declared independence and that we didn't need him anymore.
He laughed at me and told me that my death was preordained at his hand.
My men and I engaged him and found ourselves immediately overpowered by him. My first partner, his name was Robert, found himself skewered at the end of the vampire's b*****d sword. As if to strip away any pride the man had, he pulled the blood from his body and channeled it into his own mouth, leaving him as a shriveled shell on his blade. He continued to fight us with Robbert on his sword, the b*****d. As he flung off of the sword, he cracked against the wall and slumped to the floor.
My second partner, Peter, went as well. The Baron found himself disarmed after I'd parried one of his attacks and reached into Peter's leg, ripping the bone clean from his body. He spoke in some language I didn't understand as Peter lay screaming on the ground. Dark mist swirled around the femur and it slowly transformed into a new sword. Peter was slain with what was once a part of his own body.
Then it was just me...and him.

Diary, I was terrified. Baron Wesley Addams proved to be more than just some man...or vampire...he was like a force of nature. Twisted, evil, nature.
It was like something that was once benevolent had been killed and tainted and corrupted into a heinous monster. It was like I was looking at the embodiment of the end of hope.

Diary, I thought he killed me. He was faster than I and just as strong, which was quite the feat, considering that at fifteen, I was stronger than the most able-bodied men in Jocham. He plunged his blade into my guts and twisted the sword he'd commandeered from my companion. As I felt my insides wrench, I blacked out.

It was cold...and dark. I didn't know how long I was out, but when I came to, I was in my home, with Rin looking down at me.
Somehow, the Baron had vanished and his spell was broken. When everyone had asked me about it, they wondered how I'd killed him.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to tell them...so I didn't say anything at all.
Diary, you are the only one that knows what happened that day. Someday, when someone reads these entries, that fact will change. As it stands, however, I believe that the vampire baron is still out there. If he is, I pray that he meets justice before he can hurt anyone else ever again.

Dear Diary~ 4/1/1983

I'm not fit to be a Baron...Ruling over the people wasn't my original goal. I'm a hero, not a ruler. That said, I passed the title on to Lord Ludeval, one of the other families that had fallen out of grace when the Addams made their pact with the King of Night.
Hander had mentioned that he was headed east, to find other evils to quell. Rin and I talked it over, and we decided to join him, at least as long as Rin wasn't showing.
We've packed our things and we'll be riding to Mesru in the morning.

Dear Riketz's Diary~ 4/2/1983

What kind of imbecilic, effeminate, pansy writes in a diary? I read that bit about myself and feel that if you ARE going to be a complete girl, you should at least write the whole truth, and about how I mercilessly cut down those Blood Omens with ease, or how earlier today my incredible might allowed us to blast through that giant with...equal ease.

I swear, you are my inferior in every way.

~Sir Hander, the TRUE Hero of Jocham, Pinac.

P.S. Everyone KNOWS Jocham is in Pinac, you don't have to keep writing it, you nitwit.

Dear Diary~ 4/3/1983

That b*****d Hander took my diary and wrote that passage in there. If I wasn't so against ripping the pages out, I'd dip it in manure and shove it down his throat.

As he'd mentioned, we encountered a giant yesterday. He was guarding the pass and had been demanding a toll from everyone who passed by.
Naturally, being the heroes that we were, we told him to leave or we'd make him leave by force.
The giant got angry and threw things at us...a lot of things...large things...including but not limited to:

A wagon
A horse
A cow
A boulder
A statue
Hander
What may have been a giant-sized sandal
A crate of potatoes
and a passing doe, which was killed on collision. Poor thing.

Needless to say, he kept throwing things at us until Rin shot him in the eyes with some sort of ammunition that was filled with dung. As he scrambled about blindly screaming about how bad his eyes hurt, Hander (that a*****e) tripped the giant with his lance and impaled him through the chest as he fell.
Certainly, his strength was impressive, considering that he managed to keep the giant from crushing him. Hilariously enough, that was the end of his marvelous strength. He began to whine and beg for us to help him roll the giant off of him.
After laughing at his expense for a few minutes, we pushed the giant off of him and began to set up camp. Rin pulled me aside and we spoke personally for a few minutes, which must have been when he stole my diary.
We should be arriving in Mesru tomorrow. I hope we can help the people there in some way or another.

~Riketz Armand of Jocham.

P.S. Hander, you scream like a girl.

Dear Diary~ 4/5/1983

Our search for a quest lead us to the mysterious Shao Fan. They said his skill with a dai-katana was unparalleled. He was apparently looking for a group to aid him in conquering the local threat, a terrible Wyvern, the Barrioth. Rin signed us up for the hunt without even talking to either of us first and we were to set out tomorrow to kill the beast with Shao Fan as our guide.
Smart girl...she knew I'd be all for killing such a monster and that I would care less what Hander had to say about it. I think that's why I love her.

...that or the thing she does with her back...man that's hot.

Brandistock Hunting Company Log- 4/6/1983

Shao Fan here. This entry will mark the beginning of a log for what will be known as the Brandistock Hunting Company, named so after our (originally) sole supporter, Lord Fredorick Brandistock XIV. After we'd defeated the Barioth terrorizing Mesru, we agreed that our combined ability should be used to help mankind. Lord Brandistock would help us discover who it was that needed help out there and we would do our best to hunt down the source of their ills.

Additionally, I have requested permission to use pages from Riketz's Diary in this log, though I have only copied them down word for word, as he insists on not tearing pages out. Hander insists that diaries are for lesser people, and Rin claims that she has a right to feminine privacy. That said, only Riketz's entries will be added at this time.
