Sheila had lost track of the days. Her concept of time had narrowed itself down into moments of wakefulness and sleep, the exact second-to-minute ratio lost as soon as her cellphone gave its last dying blip-bleep! before shutting itself down.
At least she was no longer injured, she reflected with a small smile of satisfaction as she skirted a broken part of the rainbow road. The first few periods of wakefulness had been maddening and painful; it wasn’t enough to have a broken arm, but to be deaf on top of it? Sheila had wept with joy when she first heard the dull buzz that heralded the return of sound.
With her body healed, Sheila had little reason to remain at the Virgo Outpost. It was overcrowded and noisy -- even with the rumor that people were attacked, Sheila took the opportunity to slip away and make her way down the shattered rainbow road towards... What was it called again? Chronos Outpost? It was at least a destination, and it felt good to walk around and have some alone time.
Of course, idle hands are the devil’s playthings. The pink pearlescent barrier surrounding the Libra Outpost caught Shiela’s attention as soon as she spotted it. The girl’s steps quickened as she closed the distance between her and it, forgetting completely about her initial goal to head towards Chronos’ Outpost.
Why were these forbidden places? Sheila reached out with her left hand and gently touched the barrier, snatching her hand back. Nothing happened. She touched it again, biting her lip as she looked around nervously. Should she even be here? It’s not like a look would be bad or anything, right? Sheila took a nervous breath before stepping closer to the barrier, raising her hands to cup her eyes like an old view-master toy, blocking out as much space-light as she could to peer through the barrier.
