Kosai here, and I'm going to teach you how abit about how Oblivion works internally.
So lets talk about how the game knows what texture goes to what armor shall we? Lets pick the basic iron armor cuirass for starters.
It's Mesh ( which is the model ) is found here
Oblivion/Data/Meshes/armor/iron/m/cuirass.nif
it's texture that corresponds to this file is here:
Oblivion/Data/Textures/armor/iron/m/cuirass.dds
Oblivion/Data/Textures/armor/iron/m/cuirass_n.dds
The "_n" file is a texture map file that adds textured depth effects, like scratches appearing to have a small indentation on the armors surface or making the pauldrons appear to have mass/height they normally dont have through texturing. Things like the glass armor have an extra file called "_g" which is the glow map. Everything in Cyrodiil uses this, there is a mesh and a texture applied to it, if you have an open source model view program like Nifskope you can actually see the file paths to the textures AND even change them, they won't look right unless you apply the same texture to the mesh however, so applying the texture used on the steel cuirass won't work on the Iron one. Some items use the same texture, for instance all glass blade weaponry use a single texture file where as other meshes ACTUALLY have multiple textures to be applied to them!
Your character is also composed of meshes and they appear as slots in the construction kit under the races section as Head, Upperbody, Lowerbody, Hands, Feet, Right Eye, Left Eye, Ear, Tail and have texture slots next to them. They are made to goto corresponding textures in the textures folder.
