Grass swayed lazily in the breeze, almost in a dance. Trees were scattered here-and-there, villagers of all sorts relaxing or playing in the sun. Most, however, were working. Like Carrel, who was currently brushing one of his rammas down, fingers stroking the bright yellow wool of the female animal. It 'eeep'-ed happily at him, currently standing and enjoying the attention. Not too far off, his three other rammas--two female and one male, all with the same bright yellow coloring Carrel had bought them for--nibbled on the leaves of a bush plant, content and their own fur recently brushed. "There you go girl; all nice and smooth," the feline native said, letting her go back to the small herd that was his.
He leaned back, ebony black tail swaying lazily, ears up to appreciate the sound of young laughter from a few little ones playing tag in the long grass. Carrel liked this new village. He'd moved here not too long ago from the mountain village of the west, wanting to see if life here would be less boring. It was nice, and certainly less idle living. Particularly ... with the strange ones.
Carrel leaned back, looking up at the sky with a thoughtful look, one ears always on the sounds of his rammas. He had seen these strange people all right, with their metal and cutting machines. But at a distance. And not long after, it was made clear no one was to go close enough to even distantly observe these new things unless one was a warrior.
The irony of ironys. Carrel had refused to be a warrior all his life, but now if only he was one ... The panther native sighed to himself, looking down at his paws, and wiggling his toes. Perhaps today ... today would be the day he dared to go out and try for another glimpse ...
