This thread is going to be rather extensive, and stretch for quite awhile, covering pretty much all of Zopyros and Liemerre's time spent together... Which is pretty much all of Liemerre's life.
Hope and I are shooting for 30 pages and beyond! Wish us luck!
For now, this post will act as just a reminder of what we're going for, a page-counter, and a table of contents, later, when chapters are started and finished.

Chapter 1: A New Life With You "Leimerre... Leimerre, be a good girl while Daddy is gone. Don't stray--...----....-------.....trust none.. ---------run. Until your legs give out, you must run. ......---------- come back. I promise. Mommy-------- ...----.......---mountains, but I will find-----------...... Be a good girl, Leimerre. Daddy lo---........"
And then the hazy memory goes quiet. After that, only the sound of rustling leaves scraping the ground could be heard, and that was all she would hear for a long while. The tiny pup was hungry and alone, but never once did she recall being afraid. This creature never knew fear, not even when she had to crawl on her belly to scavenge on the eggs of nesting birds who pecked and shrieked at her as she stole the precious treasure from beneath their tiny feet. She did not feel fear when numerous amounts of creatures larger than herself sniffed and prodded at her to figure out what she was. Leimerre simply grunted and leapt away for the first year of her life until she no longer needed to duck beneath her tail for every instance, and instead, kept her head raised to observe the world... Almost forgetting that she had not been alone in the first place-- That she had parents that might have been looking for her.
But Leimerre did not remember this. It stayed in the back of her mind like a faint tugging feeling whenever she thought about herself, but the little yearling never did delve too deep into her own "issues" as it were. She was only a child, and her mind saw no need to ruin it for her just yet. She would not even know what parents actually were until much later in life... But by that point, they would hardly matter to her anyway-- But this is much further down the line in her story, so we must stick to the priors: Her childhood.
It was a terribly wonderful afternoon in Fall when the leaves fell swirling to the earth around the yearling, a cool breeze tugging at her fur and little foliage when a strikingly different scent shot through her senses, immediately sending her dashing for the bushes, camouflaging herself in the dark and dying leaves quite poorly (she was much, much better at this in the Spring). Eyes searching for the source of that scent, she felt her heart leap in her chest when she spied another Leawyn-- The first she had seen this close, other than the reflection of herself in the water. He was tall, oddly coloured... But in a strange way, he was the most beautiful thing Leimerre had ever laid eyes on--And to her present day, she would never admit anything different--but she stood quiet, simply observing him from her position amongst the dying leaves. Inwardly, she chastised herself for leaving remnants of her meal of berries where she had previously been sitting... But hopefully the other would not notice, and keep on walking. Scared? She was most definitely not. Frustrated that she might have to run away from her favourite spot and travel for quite a few days before she could come back? Yes.

The sound of rustling leaves roused him that day. They brought him to his senses from the tranquil darkness of slumber, brushing against his amethyst ears and whispering a faint hello. His tail swayed back and forth behind him as thoughts were gathered and curious eyes studied their surroundings. How long had he been asleep? It was unusual to sleep longer than the break of dawn and yet by looking at the height of the sun, the leawyn judged it to be midday. Curious, but he knew it must be the work of Sylvia to make him rise at this specific time.
Something was going to happen today and although he had yet to find out what it was, Zopyros smiled with eagerness. The male stood from where he lay, nestled atop a pile of leaves with his back resting against a fallen tree and stretched his slender legs. It was time to leave his temporary shelter for the goddess was calling with yet another opportunity for him to learn something new, and who was he to keep her waiting? With ease, the leawyn moved forward, heading for the destination he felt would give him the next sign he awaited. Bright sunlight from the noon sun warmed his pelt as he walked with soft pawsteps, the leaves beneath him making little to no sound.
It was a part of his daily ritual to pray to the goddess for the well-being of the forest and protection for all of its inhabitants, and despite sleeping in that fact was not going to change. Over the years he had found water to be a source of great calm for him during meditation and so Zopyros always prayed near it, the river being closest to him at the time. He walked down to the water's edge with no concern about the dampness of the earth beneath his paws and sat down to pray. A strong breeze ruffled his multi-colored fur before he could shut his eyes and carried to him the scent of another leawyn. It was not one he recognized, but he strongly was reminded of summer rain and looked in the direction the smell came from. A dying bush was the source, and hidden to some extent between its branches was a leawyn kit. Not wanting to scare the young female he turned back to the flowing water and spoke softly. "Oh, heavenly Goddess, protect and bless all things that have breath; guard them from all evil and let them live in peace."

And from that moment forth, Leimerre would know that she would never hear any voice more beautiful than that in her entire lifetime. Eyes widening in amazement at the sight of the gorgeous creature in front of her, her tiny heart hammered in her chest, desperate to stay hidden, though she had already been seen by those dark eyes. What a kind soul, she thought. He had not tried to approach her, nor had he tried to run her off-- Though, that nagging voice in the back of her head... What did it say again?'Trust none... Until your legs give out, you must run.' Whatever that voice, it certainly did not have the joy of experiencing the wonders of watching the evening-coloured leawyn pray to a Goddess she knew nothing of... But just listening to that male's gentle, soothing tone made her want to know more. She needed to know.
Before she realized it, the tiny pup was out from her bush, staring quietly at the grand male, admiring him from further up the bank. What beautiful words he had spoken-- He had wished peace for everything with a living breath! Surely... Surely this leawyn was destined to come into her life and sweep her away into a world full of wonder and new things to experience.
"Hey!" The young female called to the other, surprised at the sound of her own voice, having not used it nearly as much as one would have expected her to. "Please... Tell me who you are speaking to..?" Keeping her distance, she called to the other, desperate to know this kind soul's ways of life, wanting to learn--desperately--what had made this leawyn so gentle... So calm. She had known no other in her life but herself, and for the first time, as her mind would recall later in life, she knew the beauty of being in the presence of another beating heart.

Zopyros finished his prayer, tail swishing rhythmically as he gazed upon the river flowing before him. The sound of the gurgling water reassured him that all would be well and that his words would eventually reach the ears of Sylvia. His striped ears flicked when he heard the sound of paw steps approaching and he turned to look at the little kit addressing him. Ah, now that he could see her out in the open Leimerre was not as young as he had previously thought. She was still too small to be on her own if she had parents taking care of her, but old enough to have the odds somewhat in her favor should she face the challenge of the hunt alone. He took in the sight of her mixed pelt and warm eyes and nodded, something clicking in his mind that he would not mind looking after the leawyn should she want a life at his side.
This was what the goddess had intended, he had no doubts regarding the meeting as more than just a simple coincidence.
It reminded him of the dream he'd had many moon ago, of a single white bloom on a red rose bush, waiting for him to pluck it. It had meant nothing to him as a youth at the time but he had never forgotten the strange sense of clarity it gave him. When the stranger called out to the priest and asked whom his prayer was meant to reach, he smiled softly. "I was praying to our goddess, Sylvia." Of course he knew that not all leawyn had even heard of the goddes and her kind ways, but the dappled kit's curiosity was truly refreshing for his heart. He would share with her all of his knowledge if she only agreed to listen. "She is the all knowing, all seeing Goddess of this forest. She is the creator of all nature and the one that provides the great bounty of nourishment all creatures need to live." Watchful of the girl's expression, he waited to see if she was truly interested in his words or had simply asked on the chance of having someone to talk to.

A goddess that provided everything for every creature with a pulse..? How amazing... Was that who was keeping her alive for so long as a tiny pup? "Sylvia..?" She spoke the name with absolute wonder, loving the sound of the syllables rolling off her little tongue. Her voice was new to her, and she had only spoken every so often... Sylvia was the first name she ever learned to pronounce. "Where is she? I want to know her... Is she in that river?" Bounding over to the water, the pup gazed into her rippling reflection in the clear liquid, frowning slightly. She knew that face was her own, and yet, the male had been praying to it. "She left..?" Leimerre felt suddenly shy and ashamed that perhaps she had scared away the goddess' presence, and her bushy tail curled up around her feet, hiding the tip of her nose with the fur.
"I... I did not mean to scare her..." She was just waiting for Zopyros to snarl and scold her for making Sylvia leave, and she cowered to the bank, her ears flattening. Perhaps if she apologized, the grand male would not hate her, for that looming feeling of being a disappointment made her heart flutter and crash hard against her ribcage. "M...Maybe you could tell her... That Leimerre is sorry..." Leimerre..? Oh yes. That was her name. She had forgotten to tell the male, but at least he knew now. Quietly crawling over to the peaceful Leawyn, she sat at his feet, wanting to see even a glimpse of this beautiful Sylvia of whom he spoke.
