I personally am going to probably spend like 15 minutes reading the booklet and strategy guide. Then I'll spend about 30 minutes crafting my dream character before my virtual feet even touch Skyrim soil. The irony is that maybe a few hours later I'll just create another one because I find something I don't like about my character.
Of course I'll waste some time getting the hang of the new combat system. I'll probably just stare at the amazing graphics for a while and hope a dragon doesn't swoop down and eat me.

What about you?

first of I'm gonna waste so much time making my dunmer look like a bad a** then I shall make for winterhold and join the new mages guild completely ignoring the main quest for awhile while i feel out the new combat system and find so wicked combos for magical attacks then I'm gonna have to figure out if being proficient in a type of armour effects your magic use as you might have guessed I'm a mage through and through

I play Bretons, dude. Next best thing to High Elves (as if they even are, snobs) without the annoying weaknesses to magicka. But yes, she will be badass. I'll probably play through every race this time, like I did in Oblivion and Morrowind.
Yep, I'm going to ditch the main quest and either stick to Winterhold or the Dark Brotherhood. They knew how to make you feel like a family, man (until you kill them...). ; - ;
Anyway, yeah, they're not so good with Main Quests in the Elder Scrolls. It's all for the factions and side quests for me.

agreed i don't know why I'm a dunmer but i've never ever played a different character though I'm not happy from what i've read on the wiki spell creation has been taken out so i won't be so over powered anymore oh well i guess there is one thing i should add to my first steps in skyrim i do intend on a massing a fortune so i guess lots of looting will be taken place as well

Oh, yeah, the spell thing. While they took out spell creation, they doubled the spells that were in Oblivion so it shouldn't be that bad. I was disappointed with the lack of... LEVITATION... Eh hrmm. But, I understand the how the game cells are set up and blah blah blah.
I'll settle with my awesome levitating lizard in Morrowind. (I cheated and I can make her levitate 24/7, so yeahhhh).
As for looting, I was at one point fascinated with it on Oblivion, but then I went back to Morrowind and started up that and was amazed with how many more items there are. I'm kind of disappointed in Oblivion for that, but I hear they're adding more items and detail so no problem there.

First post needs a medal, dude. (:
Welcome to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim guild.
(Admit it, you will spend at least 30 mins making an epic character.)

First thing I'm gonna do is build me a Breton Cryomancer. Then I'm going to stare off into the horizon, admiring the beautiful graphics, lamenting my surroundings as I realize I live in a city. Then I will find a beautiful Nord, simply to stand in front of her. As a breton, standing in front of a Nord means staring into their cleavage. So yeah... boobs.

Props for being a Breton (it sure has its advantages, with cleavage and all). XD

I will spend half an hour making a new character, but spend an hour before that wondering which race I'll be first. Then I'll steal a horse [a good one, at that] and hope they don't magically know I stole it if no one was there - or I'll just kill the witnesses.

I'll go searching for the Dark Brotherhood first.

It's quite disturbing how the guards know everything.

i have a theory on this one perhaps to become a guard you must be permintly enchanted with a superior form of the detect life spell a la detect crime spell

To be honest I've always thought they teamed up with the mages guild and created some detect crime spell, like anarchy suggested.

Hello, by the way! Just joined ^-^

And for some reason only Imperial males have this superhuman ability (and Dark Seducers/ Golden Saints). Seriously, I ain't see no Khajiit with tha' guard (kitty slang). Seriously, they must teach us their secrets.
Fortunately, they might, because the Legion is making a return to the Elder Scrolls in Skyrim. They were in Morrowind, and then not in Oblivion.
