This world is much like old Earth, temperate, a variety of climate types, a breathable atmosphere, and temperatures suitable for many alien and human species.

The major downside to this world is that over a thousand years ago, before the rise of the Empire in this galaxy, a vastly powerful alien race seeded the planet with a special emitter device that blocks the use of electrical systems, firearms, explosives, and technology of any kind. Simply put, this planet is in medieval stages of technology, and has been for over a thousand years. It is a planet scarred by war, with kings, tyrants, and warlords with armies of knights, cavalry, and such siege weapons as the ancient catapult, and medieval ways brought by the first unlucky human settlers deeply ingrained in the culture have left the population living in villages, fiefs, and castles, with chivalry still alive and well here. If one enters this world, it must be by a primitive glider/lander from orbit, where a space station is the closest technology can work to the planet. To leave, the lander must be retrieved by a ultra powerful custom tractor beam mounted on the space station.

The Empire enjoys this medieval culture, and studies it extensively. Watching from orbit or via the ground, and after centuries of encouraging the local kings, a vast arena was built for gladiatorial blood-sports. Some of the best fighters in the galaxy come here to fight bare handed, or with primitive blades or missile weapons like bows or crossbows. Surviving the arena alive and intact nets a prize from the Empire that few have claimed...

And, if favored by the people enough, they might just be shown the device that keeps them in the Dark Ages. It cannot be destroyed, for many have tried, and found it indestructible. But if the technology could be duplicated, it would make for a powerful battlefield weapon....
