hey everyone i know its been awile since i last posted or made my presence known i been busy with work and school and training for whatever time i could find for it. but you are all still on my mind. anyways to the subject and i turn to you all because you are a great help to me.
the problem: a friend of mine (i dont really think im calling him a friend anymore) has been trying to provoke me into fighting him. he starts off with jokes but then takes them too far and then attempts to push my buttons and twist my nerves and prances around like he is the s**t. he likes to call himself a Martial artist but he lays around smoking weed and wasteing away on a computer the other times he punches away at a punching bag and does some kicks. he claims he has taken MT and BJJ. he has been in a JJ class with me before but dropped out within a few months. and now he is calling himself a MT instructor and has taken someone under his wing. (i have watched them train and i could point out soooooo many flaws and i dont even train in MT.) well now his apprentice is attempting to provoke me and my "Friend" is calling me a "p***y" because i still refuse to indulge them -_- my other friends are backing me up and have even stepped in and told him he needs to ease off but part of me screams at me saying for me to put those two in their place.
i confronted my grand master about it and he said "if they threaten you or attempt to fight you then you have my blessing to do what must be done" and now i want a second opinion what do you all think i should do

While it is unfortunate that your once-friend has chosen the way that he has but he cannot be allowed to corrupt another, nor can he be allowed to misrepresent the martial arts in such a way. So the choice is laid out. Either avoid this person completely so you don't have to deal with the indignity of his words and presence, or find a way to provoke him into the first action so that your legal standing is safe and you can deal with the problem in a decisive fashion.

well for the most part ive kept my world separate from him though its hard sometimes when he is my best friends neighbor though the good thing is my best friend stays a distance from him due to his choice in lifestyle. we are attempting to keep my friends little brother from going over there as well to keep him from being influenced into eaither an untrue martial art training (because it is not MT that he claims to teach) or smoking weed like i have cought him doing before -___-. as for the most part i dont want to stain my record for im going up for the Orange county sheriffs department in CA.

Don't know what to say here ... I would personally kick his a** ... no one spreads "muay thai" unless they they know muay thai ... but that's me ... since you live in Cali ... justice system here is not the best ... so I would want to risk it either ... unless you some how get in cahoots and start training with him ... and then in sparring kick his a** ... but even then ... realistically there would need to be a domination in skills ... that how you shut up punks ...

I'd say if he messes dont overindulge with your anger, just do it quick, and safely, but strike the fear into him. Also It's cool if he calls you a p***y, if he shoves you then give him three warnings. if he breaks it, then stomp him, lightly. biggrin

I've had a similar problem. An ex friend of mine tried to mess with me quite a few times. Usually I'd just restrain him, or if I went further I'd stop myself before I actually punched. Eventually it broke out into an all out fight. He tried to fight me later on the same day but I just tried to avoid conflict and outsmarted him. If you can avoid a fight that's good. Even if you hate your "friend", you have to try to avoid conflict. My advice is stay calm and try to avoid conflict. Really it's not worth it.

well i can say justice was served but not so much in a way of where i had to go into conflict. this guy was posting on facebook how great an instructor he was and how his ""students" are better than any fighter in ""my local area" i forwarded the post to my grand master and then he sent it out to other instructors of various styles. we are talking kenpo , tangsoodo,TKD,MMA schools, Mt schools, JJ, and many other MA associations. within the California area. he now gets e-mails from these associations questioning his background. asking him who his instructors where whats his accomplishments and under what or whos authority was he granted the approval to teach and who gave him a title to call himself a master,MA INSTRUCTOR. ((people can say you dont have to have any of that stuff but to be viewed as a brother of the martial art its best not to make enemies of the federations, and great masters of the martial art world."

and so basicly now he really cant seem to walk around town without being pointed out by students who attend real gyms, dojos. even a few have invited him to open spar matches and all those times he turns them down or says he will be there and never shows up "who is the p***y now"

Hopefully this will help curb his curriculum somewhat to prevent him from corrupting other promising young martial artists.

I have to applaud two things, 1. The very smooth handling of that situation. and 2. The fact that all of your local schools communicate with each other.
I only wish some of our different martial arts schools (kempo, BJJ, etc) would be as connected. Unfortunately, everyone sees the other as competition.
