Before I begin I will tell you of the Goddess Izanami and the God Izanagi:
There were two deities of Japan, one named Izanagi, The Man Who Invites, the other Izanami, The Female Who invites. Izanami was made for Izanagi to be his wife, and two created the land under them from the heavens above. After time, the woman wanted a child, and so the two performed a ritual. However, her child was deformed due to her speaking first in the ceremony, where it is usually the male deity. They tried again after banishing their first child, and this time did it correctly, resulting in 8 children that later became islands. During the birth, Izanami birthed a fire deity named Kagutsuchi, who was made of fire. He burnt her as she was born, and she ended up dying. Izanagi, grief stricken, killed the child. Izanami was sent to Yomi-Tsu Kuni, a place of darkness and death. Her husband followed, wishing to take her back to the heavens above. She warned him not to look upon her until the day the gods of Yomi released her. The shadows covered her, but Izanagi desired to see his wife. He lit a torch, thrusting it towards the shadows, and saw a rotting corpse of his wife. He fled. Angry that Izanagi had not respected her wishes, Izanami sent hideous female spirits, eight thunder gods, and an army of fierce warriors to chase him. Izanagi managed to escape and blocked the pass between Yomi and the land of the living with a huge boulder. Izanami met him there, and they broke off their marriage. Angry at the man, Izanami promised to strangle one thousand people every day of japan, in which Izanagi swore to birth fifteen hundred children every day.
Izanami is heavily based on this story. She is believed to have the soul of this Goddess.
