WEEK ONE
Unfortunately the class is only one day a week and it is only three hours long ... beyond these "faults" ... the class was awesome ...
The sensei was everything I expected ... he is like that that type of guy that is unassuming ... but you could tell he could easily break your jaw ...
The class itself was huge ... there were as many white belts as colored belts ... there were about four black belts (including the instructor) ... about 6-8 brown belts ... and a mix of other colors ... of the white belts ... about 5 people were physically ready to do the class ... as we were dressed to workout ... and I was the only one mentally ready ...
And we were thrown into it ... learning blocking and punching ... learning two katas ... doing a lot of body conditioning ... sure it was stuff I wasn't new to ... but it was good to work with some new people ...
So far ... I'm definitely looking forward to the next class ... and I'm thinking about a getting a gi ... this should be fun for sure ...
As for you myhorrorshow ... I would definitely disagree with you ... Wado Ki Kai is a legitimate style ... as with any style ... if taught right ...

congrats on your new style and good luck in your future practice. take everything you learn to mind and to heart and you will be a force that someone would have to think twice about crossing.

WEEK TWO
Well the number of white belts have thinned out ...
But there are a few people that I would personally like to see go away ... no offense to them ... they either lack the confidence or the mental drive to really do this ... which would just thin our ranks by two ... one who complained about not being able to "memorize" all the moves and having stage fright ... and another who basically wanted a water break every five minutes ...little annoyances like that ... personally coming from my muay thai background we wouldn't really tolerate such behavior ... but oh well ... what can you do ...
On the technical side of things we learned a new kata as all the colored belts sparred in another room ... I personally would have liked to see what was up with their sparring ... as for the kata itself ... I was a little lost at first ... but I eventually caught myself up ... still having a bit of trouble with the stance ... with it being so low ... but I'm getting there ... I think ...
Oh yeah ... I got my gi also ... it felt crisp ... especially when you throw a punch ... it is awesome ...

WEEK THREE - WEEK SIX or SEVEN (I forgot xp )
Well we've been learning shinko kata and kata ... unfortunately only2-3 white belts are realistically ready ... that 2-3 out of 12 ... our sensei is quite worried ... especially and unfortunately because belt testing was pushed up for everyone to November 19 ... so our sensei has to make sure that all of the colored belt as well as the white belt know their kata ... and with only one class a week ... he has been hard pressed ... fortunately he was able to find a studio (which funny enough is a kajukenbo dojo) which he rents out on Fridays ... so that all of the belts can get so extra training ... I've been going to these ... just wanted to make sure I get as much training in as possible ... and because of this ... I'm being approached to help teach the white belts ... I kinda awesome ...
As for the other white belt ... some of them are annoying me ... they just don't seem to have the work ethic or drive of the rest of us ... and because of that the white belts as a whole are going to get hurt ... these certain individuals are going to drag the rest of us down ...
Oh well ... we will have to see ...

as they say for teaching it takes alot of time and patients and when it comes down to kids you have to have the patients of a saint. i noticed it alot whenever i had to teach some of the lower belts myself they often like to space out or even beg to go with the higher belts to spar and say how its not fair. course i turn it around on them and say "well you know i could be in their sparing right now but instead i wanted to teach you and the other white belts so you guys could be ready for your test, that way you can go in and start sparing." on a personal note im enjoying reading your logs on your progression it always makes me think back at all i have gone though and the strain it was on me trying to kick habbits from my old styles and working to my current styles standards. (example durring katas the hands being down by the belt wile in my old style we chambered up by our ribs since in theory your hands are up in a fight so having them close to that area seemed logical)

Anyways ... glad you are enjoying ... Oh yeah ... this last Friday class ... we were sparring ... definitely something I need to get used to ... everyone is taller and longer than me ... and with that "in-n-out" style ... and about a minute per round ... just will need to get used to it ...

WEEK EIGHT (this is for sure, because I have midterms coming up) Actually WEEK SEVEN ... whoopsie ... sweatdrop sweatdrop sweatdrop ...
Well sensei had the white belts spar ... and it was fun ... got to work with the brown belts ... as said before they know how to use their length ... double which since it is an in and out style ... as for the rule adaptations when it comes to leg kicks (unfortunately no leg kicks eek ) ... it was fun ... got some licks in ... I ditched out as much as I was given ... unfortunately I jammed my thumb ... (it is feeling normal now, but still a little stiff) ...
As for Friday class ... started fine tuning my kata ...

Okay ... I know I haven't really been consistent with this ... my apologizes for that ... anyway ... where do I begin ... well I guess I can start with that annoying guy in class ... we actually started making a pot on how many times this guy complained ... well let's just say that after three people counted we got some ridiculous numbers ... one person counted 80, another counted 82, and the third counted 96 ... either way in an 3 hour time he complained a lot ... that's is about 1.3 complains every minute ... I have never seen or heard anyone complain that much in that time frame ...
Hell we had someone get their arm broken in class ... they came back after two weeks ... and they were more pissed off about the fact that they didn't get to go to class for two weeks ... he was doing kata in a case ...
To be frank ... everyone in class ... from white belt on up ... is starting to strongly dislike this guy that complains ... he makes excuses about his performance ... he tries to bullshit his way out of certain situation ... and he say, "oh karate is not for me" ... if it not for you, why stay ... and he says in return, "I wanted to get fit" ... well you can't get fit if you don't put the time in ...
Regardless I'm a little nervous ... my belt promotion test is tomorrow ... it is a little nerve wracking ... probably more that any fight that I have been in so far ... I do not know what to expect ... and that's the scary ... I know I shouldn't be second guessing myself ... but I just can't help it this time round ...
Well regardless of that ... wish me luck ...
