Sailor Mayam was a minor senshi, with little power aside from a sharp mind and small frail frame. While treated well by most Senshi, some saw her as a bit of a joke. None allowed her to join them in combat.
Despite her short coming she had her own talents. Specializing in technology and wizardry, she created the comm units and other tech Sailors from earth use even to this day.
Mayam Knight wasn't better off, binded with Sailor Mayem since her 2nd incarnation, now in their 9th, Mayam Knight had grown discontent with his lot. While Sailor Mayam was respected among the Senshi, Mayam Knight was ridiculed among the other knights.
He often pestered Mayam for a way to increase his power. She cared little for more power, but loved the Mayam Knight. It was in their her final incarnation she found a means to help him. She had discovered a strange but seamingly benign black crystal with great power. While attempting to help him harness it, she discovered too late that it contained its own sentience and he fell under its influence. It was under this influence that he slayed Sailor Mayam and thus kept the secret of the crystal to himself.
Now unbound and weakened from her death, he retreated to the hills to practice and grow his new power. It would be years before he reemmerged as the greatest Villian the Senshi of earth had yet faced. The Dark Wizard Mayam.
