Just one question:
Does your bipolar affect your relationships?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:06 am

Nope. My friends and other people I am in a relationship with have learned to deal with it, as have I.

Fail

Well, I don't think my GF understand quite yet, but she deals with it. I am very careful to treat her like a queen, so I don't b***h at her all too much.

My mom and I don't get along at all. When I am really depressive she sits there and antagonizes me til I explode on her and throw a bowl at her head.

She's crazy too.

My friends deal, and most of them understand which is cool.

Homan. =\ The problem with being bipolar and trying to get along with other people is that they don't really understand. My friends are cool, and they don't mind much (unless they're lying to me XD), but my mom just aggravates me. @_@ It's like she tries to piss me off. XD She's hard to get along with, but I really try.

I think we're all sufferes of BMS: Bored Mother Syndrome. Our mom's get bored and start nothering us. Mine is an immature, self-centered, inconsiderate, know it all that really knows nothing. I mean NO Street smarts/common sence. And she picks and picks at me whenever anyone is over. When I have company she won't go away and if I ask her to go away my friends have to leave. Then, she complains about me never being home. Yeah.. Any of your mom's like that?

My mom's actually really smart. =] She's been around the block quite a few times and has probably seen it all. She was a crazy teenager/young adult. e.e; She's settled down since then and now things are a lot better than when they were when I was a young'un. I think my mom's problem lies in the way she was raised; my grandpa was an a*****e. o_o Straight up until my grandma died four days before my fourteenth birthday in 2000. He was so bad, that it was like he refused to see my mom as his daughter and me and my sister as his grandchildren. I think to him, my mom was a failure, and my mom is the black sheep out of her brother and sister. She's also the youngest. My uncle is an alcoholic though (last time I checked =D), and my aunt is.. well.. >_> My aunt. e.e I don't think there're any words to describe her. xD But if it wasn't for my grandma, I don't think we'd have survived during my childhood. =] I miss her lots. To sum this all up, I don't think my mom is exactly a narrow-minded moron, she just likes to bother me for some reason. e.e; And it doesn't help that she's way different from me, and hard to get along with. She more identifies with my sister. @__@;

I'm pretty sure my boyfriend has learned to deal with it quite well in the last year and a half. Since he's usually the one who invokes my ups and downs, he knows when they happen. And somehow, he's learned how to deal with it. He knows how to cheer me up, when I need it, and he knows how to settle me down, when that's what I need. I don't know how he does it, but he does a pretty good job. There are some times when he just can't handle it and we end up screaming at each other, but it all ends up good.
My friends haven't learned quite as well, because they just don't understand why sometimes I'm hyper as hell and bouncing off the walls and the next I'm all mopey because of something that happened the day before. I've tried to explain that they just have to wait a few minutes, but they still don't understand. Oh well... they'll come around eventually, I suppose.

My fiance is incredibly understanding. Well, he'd have to be; we've known each other since kindergarten, which coincidentally is when I first started having depressive episodes. If he's known me for that long, been patient through 15 1/2 years' worth of mood swings, and still wants to marry me... well... he's a ******** saint. heart

My mom... I can't figure her out. She gives the silent treatment when she's mad, and I got it pretty much all of last year. eek There's times I'm very, very glad that she's seven miles away.

YES.

Being bipolar has affected my relationships with people bigtime. In both good ways and bad. About half my family's bipolar, so it's brought us closer. We're more open about stuff and all support eachother. But it also makes it hard sometimes. When I'm on an emotional bender or feel messed up because of the bipolar, I'm often afraid to talk to my family about it, even though they're always very understanding about it.

As for boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, either it wrecks it or makes it stronger for me. Some people I'm with can't deal with the dramatic changes in my attitude. Others have been really understanding, which makes me trust them and feel so much closer with them.

I don't think it is the bp itself that affects the relationship it is the way the person handles it.
