It really doesn't look like much, and it isn't. It's a rundown apartment building withe the cheapest rent that Stella could find. It also has a no questions asked policy, so it's fine for a kid like her to be staying there.

Her place is basically a tiny two room apartment with a bathroom that you have to share with the other residents on your floor. Which is one shady drug dealer. The kitchen is downstairs for the whole apartment and it also has an ancient computer and television down there.

Hoshi was rather surprised when Stella began yelling at the guard. Well she was rather forceful about her opinions.... Not that it was a bad thing of course. When she tugged gently at the leash, Hoshi ran after her, not needing any more encouragement to get out of the shop as he raced beside his new mistress.

He was glad when they stopped to catch their breaths somewhere around a block away. Hoshi wasn't the most athletic person, and the conditions of the slave shop hadn't helped that in the slightest. He waited patiently while she removed the leash and collar, adverting his eyes from hers. "I think you did fine." he told her shyly, unsure of what to say. After all, he had had mistresses be friendly to him before, only to have their demeanor change as soon as they reached the residence, so he was still quite shy around her and afraid to open up. Not to mention the fact that every time he met her eyes he was filled with pangs of homesickness.

He listened to her talk about her house and followed after her, walking down the street, his hands shoved in the pockets of his jacket. He looked around, waiting for her to point out which house was hers, watching as the state of the buildings in the neighborhood changed. Hoshi had never really understood why some houses were so much different than others, both in size and in the level of finery that decorated the place. Couldn't they all just get along? He supposed it was like with the stars, how each one shone brighter, although it seemed to be hard for most humans to tell by just looking at the stars, Hoshi, being a star himself knew exactly which ones burned the brightest, not just which ones appeared to because they were closer. Of course, he also knew most of them by name...

"Thanks," Stella said sheepishly to Hoshi. She had lead Hoshi quite a ways on foot after they left the slave shop. Her feet started to ache in her second-hand shoes. Mean while, the silence between Stella and Hoshi and she looked at him a few times. He seemed content with looking at the houses, and she didn't see any disapointment as they got smaller and more shabby. Still, she couldn't be sure. She wanted to say a lot of thigs, like ask him if he wanted to take a break, or if his feet hurt, or what got him into slavery. Everytime she opened her mouth, though, she shied away.
At last her apartment building was in sight. She breathed a small sigh of relief and waved him up the gravel path to the door. She hurried up and took a key out of her pocket to unlock the door.
It opened for her and the owner peered down at her suspiciously.
"Hi, Mrs. Dolcy," the landlady nodded, her harsh look recedig into a small welcoming smile. "And this is Hoshi. He's my partner, can he stay here with me?"
The landlady looked at Hoshi and narrowed her eyes, but Stella gestured quickly to be easy on him. The landlady sighed and muttered in a cigarette smoking voice that he could if he didn't cause trouble.
"Oh, he won't," Stella ssured her. She turned and smiled encouragingly at Hoshi. He was now welcome into the grubby hall, roach ridden stairs, dirty kitchen, uncomfortable living room, and her small two room living quarters.

When Stella walked up to a rather shabby looking building, Hoshi quickly followed after her. She had been right when she said that it was small, but Hoshi didn't mind, it was better than the place he had just come from after all. Stella had been rather silent for the duration of the walk, and Hoshi sensed nervousness coming from her, as well as curiosity. To be fair, he didn't speak either, but that was because he was used to masters and mistresses who would hit him if he spoke out of turn. Besides, he didn't really have all that much to say.

When the door was opened, Hoshi looked up at the landlady, Mrs. Dolcy, shyly, wondering what she would say. He was worried for a moment that she would say he couldn't stay, and he was a little unsure of the emotions he could sense in her, but he sighed in relief when she said he could stay. When Stella smiled at him, he smiled back, although he still refused to meet her eyes for longer than a second.

He followed Stella into the building, knowing that they weren't the only two living there, he could sense other beings in the building, and he figured that there were probably others who weren't there at the moment. Clasping his hands in front of him, he looked at Stella, wondering what she wanted him to do. Eventually he spoke up, albeit in a small voice. "If you don't mind me asking, why were you looking for someone who can sing?" he asked.

Stella led Hoshi up the staircase and halfway up he spoke. Finally. She turned quickly, with a smile that was maybe a bit to bright. She was afraid to startle him, but she badly wanted to encourage this connection.
"Why do I need a singer, you ask?" She turned the rest of the way and made an impressive gesture of the arms to give the horrible stairs a stage like appearance. "I am the one and only Stella Morde. I'm also the best stagewoman in the world, except when it comes to singing. I have the voice of a toad, and to expand my acts beyon street shows I need a partner with talent. Yoou also said you can play some instruments. I can play a few at the same time but nothing complex, so I need you. A singer and musician." She paused, her eyes gleaming with pride and ambition. She kept her hands in the air. "What a monologue, eh?" She threw her hands down dramatically and started back up the stairs backwards. "I've always liked preformances, I grew up in a circus you know. Doing a duet would help a lot, even if it doesn't seem like it on the outside."

Hoshi smiled at the way Stella acted in response to his question. It had been a long time since he had encountered anyone who acted in such a manner, it brought back fond memories of happier times spent with hopefuls looking to get into the local conservatory, or simply trying to set up a street show and trying to recruit amateur actors. And although this brought a smile to his face, Hoshi still didn't want to get too comfortable, he didn't want to start thinking he belonged, after all, he didn't really belong anywhere did he? And what he had learned from being a slave was that things could change quickly, and a seemingly good situation could suddenly turn sour.

"Well that's do-able." Hoshi replied quietly, still shy around the girl, but more because he was being cautious then because he didn't want to open up to her. He continued to follow her up the stairs in silence, the quality of where she lived, while not unusual for a street performer depending on how well their act had done, was rather unusual for a mistress. Normally they were all rich, with lavish mansions, or at the very least houses of their own. Greedy humans. Taking more than their fair share and refusing to give to those who needed it. Now-a-days, Hoshi wasn't sure whether he cared for humans or hated their selfish nature. All I need to do is fulfill some wishes. As long as they deserve it. he reminded himself, And Stella's wish is something that I can help fulfill, and so far, she's shown that she deserves it.

Stella grinned and stopped at the top of the stairs, attempting to throw Hoshi off uard. She couldn't help it; She reached out and wrapped her arms around him quickly so he couldn't step back in time. She squeezed him gently and let him go.
"Thak you Hoshi. I'm looking forward to working with you." She gave a girly grin and welcomed him onto the second floor. She tromped down the hall with him to a stained door, the name plate reading "Duncan"."Here's my room. Don't let the name confuse you." It was Duncan because she was paranoid about adverising her real name in such a private place, where someone she knew might come looking for her. She jiggled her key into the lock while lying through her teeth that it was old and she didn't want to pay for a new one. Okay, so it asn't lying through her teeth because it was half true, but it felt like a lie. She didn't want Hoshi to worry about it though. She'd broken away from that god-awful circus years a long time ago.
"It's small, but the landlady pities me so we have a view and fresh air and two reasonable-ish rooms. I'm planning on finding a way to trade that sofa fo a bed." She pointed at the sofa in the room, and glanced at the little door that led to the second 'room', which was really closet space with a bed crammed inside. "Did I miss anything? Do you have any questions?" She smiled brightly at him, wondering what he'd think. At first she was worried. Most slaves were bought by rich people, so it was possible Hoshi was used to better acomodations. Then again he didn't strike her as the type to be picky, or at least he was super nice and kept complaints to himself. She hoped anyway. Also, he had lied in a cage when she'd met hierlier that day.

To say that Hoshi was surprised when Stella hugged him was an understatement. He tried to pull out of her grip, but fail - mind you, he wasn't trying too hard considering the fact that they were at the top of the stairs. Having been a slave for quite a while, Hoshi wasn't used to being hugged. Master and Mistresses didn't hug their slaves, so it wasn't something he was used to. Hoshi nodded shyly to her comment, and proceeded to follow her down the hallway to a stained door.

He glanced at the name on the metal plate; it didn't escape his notice that it was not Stella's name. Of course, Stella had an explanation for it, and while he wasn't sure if he believed her - her emotions were rather muddled, but that of course didn't really mean anything, people's emotions were often confusing. Besides, it was a reasonable excuse, and she hadn't given him a reason to distrust her. Even so, he could sense regret? Not really, but it was something, something that said she felt bad for her excuse. He decided to brush it off. From what he had seen of Stella, she wasn't anything like any other Master or Mistress he had ever had, so if she was lying, it was probably just something that she didn't want him to know, nothing really dangerous. Hoshi knew that people were allowed to have secrets, he had his fair share of them after all, so he wasn't going to press her, if she wanted him to know, she would tell him, right? As a slave, it wasn't any of his business anyways.

He looked around the room that she had and smiled a bitter sweet smile. It brought back memories of when he had still been a true star. Happier times, before the fairies had convinced him to do something he currently considered to be rather stupid, although he supposed they had been right, they just hadn't told him that the chances of actually finding someone who would tell him what they wished was almost slim to none. Of course, he hadn't seen fairies in ages, they didn't usually hang around the city. Sensing Stella's self conscious concern, he turned to her. "Ah.. no, it's fine." he told her adding in a whisper, "I don't really trust the well-to-do very much anyways."

Stella, pleased by Hoshi's favour, smiled chldishly.
"That's good. Neither do I." She sat down on the sofa and assumed he'd sit too. "In my opinion, money isn't to flaunt around." She grinned a jokingly malicious grin and clenched her fists evily. "It's to force those to obey," she then 'bwa ha ha'd at the cieling, curling her fingers. It stpped suddenly and she looked at him. "Did that sound evil to you? i think it sounded evil. You try," she said nudging him. She wanted to get a feel for the strength of Hoshi's voice, while being friendly and carefree about it.

Hoshi nodded in agreement when Stella said that money wasn't to flaunt around, but then jumped and blinked in surprise when she suddenly let out a malicious laugh. It was not a good feeling, and it brought back memories of an old master and his wife, both of whom had never laughed like that, but had certainly seemed the type to do so. Although the wife's piercing, cacophonous, off-key laugh hadn't been all that much different..... "Th-that sounded very much evil..." he muttered, biting his bottom lip and glancing down at the floor.

He looked up at her and smiled nervously, wondering what she wanted. The nervous smile turned to a frown rather quickly though. What had happened to the times when he could laugh and joke around like this with the people he knew well? He could easily pull off a malicious laugh if it was part of the song, but to do it at random? And with someone he barely knew, even if she did seem to be really nice? He didn't know if he could do it.

After a moment, it occurred to him that he had stage fright. He had never had stage fright before. He was afraid of disappointing her and being sent back to the shop. "I'm sorry Stella.... I don't know if I can... It doesn't feel right..." he muttered lamely, wondering what her reaction would be.

He jumped? Stella's first impression was 'what a wuss'. He had a puzzling nervous smile that made her tilt her head, giving him an impatient, droopy eyed look. He looked at the ground, and suddenly that smile turned into a frown and she caught herself from encouraging him again to laugh. His frown and thoughtful eyes looked troubled by something.
"I'm sorry Stella.... I don't know if I can... It doesn't feel right..." his meek voice muttered. Stella dipped her head, completely caught off guard by his hesitation. Slowly her smile faded into a frusterated look. Frusteration, because she'd just scared him. She should have known to be less bold after hs scarred lifestyle.
"I'm sorry, she said quietly. She gave him a little apologetic sile and sat down on the couch. "It's okay, please don't push ourself for something stupid like that." Yeah it was stupid, and she felt sad because she'd have to learn to be cautious with Hoshi. It wouldn't be as easy as she'd somehow hoped for him to immediately hop on board. She felt bad abou it, and she didn't know exactly how to interact with him.
"Umm...maybe we should just talk for now...Or do you want something to eat You look thin."

Hoshi looked up at Stella and smiled when she apologized. "It's....It's not your fault." he told her softly, trying to cheer her up, "I'm the one who got myself into that mess..." The last part was barely more than a whisper as Hoshi really didn't want to think about, or explain, the event that had led to his capture and introduction to the slave trade. For a while, he had greatly regretted it, but he knew that without he, he never would have met Stella, who certainly seemed like a wonderful person. Had the fairies seen this coming? It was hard to tell, and it wasn't as though Hoshi could ask them, he hadn't met another fairy since coming to the city, which was only to be expected, they were creatures of nature after all.

He looked up almost hopefully when she mentioned food, but then bit his lip, caution in his eyes. The guards at the shop had often taunted him with food, and although he didn't think Stella would do that, he really didn't want to be disappointed. On the other hand, it had been a while since he had had anything substantial to eat.... "That would be great." he told her, almost hesitantly. Closing his eyes, he focused on Stella, trying to read her emotions. He could tell that she was kind, and honest, and that she really did want to help. At that, he relaxed a little. She hadn't done anything to prove him wrong yet, so he had no reason to be overly suspicious, just cautious. She was human after all.

Stella brightened up a bit. Even though Hoshi sounded skittish and hesitant about accepting anything like food from her, it was a start. He had this cautius way of looking at her and concentrating on her, and already she was feeling like he was trying to read her mind. It felt silly, and she kept a laugh in.
"Come on, then," she piped. She stood off her couch and almos took his hand. She glanced into his big bue eyes for perission before gently closing her fingers around her wrist. I'm not a threat, she kept thinking. She took him along, back out into the muty hallway and downstairs to the cramped shared kitchen. It was empty, for the landlay was either away or in her own rooms, and the same went for the other occupants of the house. She let go of Hoshis hand and tarted opning a cuppoard. "Anything you like?" she asked. Hopefully he had simple cheap tastes, otherwise her thoughtful queston would taunt her with awkwardness.
