This class is where you can learn to use basic Alchemy. It's rather simple if you understand the laws.  Ms. Kensington The teacher drew a simple transmutation circle, then a much more complicated one beside it on the black-board.   Arya copied both circles in her notebook. She was sitting up straight and grinning. She loved this class. The teacher asked "What are these for?". She pointed to the circles. Arya raised her hand. "The simple one is for transmutation, or changing one thing into something else of equal value. The other is for human transmutation, the one unforgivable sin in alchemy." she said, satisfied when the teacher nodded.

Annabelle blinked at Arya and moaned to herself. Alchemy was not her strong point...Potion Class was. Annabelle examined the simpler circle and memorised it. Change something to eaqual value...? Okay got that.....

Ms.Kensington settled herself on the corner of her desk. She grabbed a small piece of chalk and walked back up to the board. She wrote in neat little letters. She wrote:
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy’s first Law of Equivalent Exchange.
Ms. Kensington started to explain the concept. "If you want to gain anything, something else of equal physical value must be lost. For example, you can't make anything out of nothing. But you can make something out of something." she took a rock out of her pocket and laid it in the circle she had carved into her desk. She transmuted it into a pile of Dove feathers. The pile's size was about the same size the rock had been.
Arya smiled at Annabelle and copied down the law. She smiled at the simple transmutation. She raised her hand and asked "Shouldn't you cover the 'unforgivable sin'?"

Annabelle watched Arya copy down the law, and she figured that would serve her well, too. She wrote it on a slip of paper, then cocked her head when Arya mentioned the "Unforgivable Sin'.
"Well, I suppose that wouldn't be a bad idea, in the means that if one should have stumbled onto it, it is, in fact, unforgivable." Ms. Kensington had a rather strange sense of humor, and Annabelle didn't get it.

Arya sighed and ripped a new sheet of paper in half. In neat cursive writing, she wrote: The unforgivable sin is human transmutation.
Arya tried not to laugh as Kitt looked at the note, puzzled.
Ms. Kensington faced the board again and wrote:
Alchemy's one and only unforgivable sin is to try to bring the dead back to life, of Human Transmutation is it's technical term.
Arya flinched when Ms. Kensington said "Bring the dead back to life", then slumped in her seat.

Annabelle took a breath, still not sure of everything, but she thought she had a pretty good idea of what the "Unforgivable Sin" was, and a decent start at least to alchemy. She watched Arya slump in her chair and blinked once, reading the note again. Then Ms. Kensington walked around the room, handing each student a small vine of grapes. "I would now like you to turn these grapes into blueberries of a slightly greater number, a single apple, or razberries of a slightly lower number than the grapes." Annabelle starred at the grapes hopelessly while Arya got right to work. Anabelle wathed Arya draw the simple circle. Annabelle copied the circle onto her own paper. She checked to see that several other students around her had the same circle. They did. So far so good, she thought. She looked on the board to find the harder circle drawn up there. Annabelle wouldn't even try to attempt that one.

Arya transmuted the grapes into a large bright red apple. She smiled at Annabelle's uncertainty. Then, when no-one was looking, she clapped her hands together once, creating a high-pitched ringing noise that was barely audible over the chatter of the other students. She laid one hand on the apple and it turned into a medium sized pile of raspberries. She hoped the teacher had noticed the second transmutation, but not how she had done it.

Annabelle starred at the berries, then put the grapes on her paper. She focused on them. Focusing on grapes... She thought. No! Don't get distracted! She started arguing with herself. Okay, look at the grapes... Arrg don't think! Stop thinking, Annabelle!! At this point, she was just mentally screaming at herself, and th weird faces she was making at her conversation made a few people turn and watch, wondering if she had some kind of problem. Finally, she turned the graped into a perfect amount of blueberries. She smiled and gave a sigh of relief.

Arya popped a raspberry in her mouth, then handed Annabelle one. "Want it?" she asked, smiling. Then, she transmuted the rest of the berries into a miniature guitar. It was about the size of Arya's pinky finger. She picked it up and strummed it with a tooth-pick. The sound it created was high pitched and short lived note. Arya cracked up.

Arya laughed at Alice's remark then transmuted the guitar back into berries. Once again she didn't use a circle, but no-one noticed. "Alice, I didn't know you liked Alchemy..." she said, smiling at Alice.

"Yeah it's really fun." Arya said. "Especially after we get through the basics." she said, glaring down at her raspberries.
