So, this weekend I will be going to Gilroy to prepare for the upcoming Ren Faire!
This and the following 3 weekends are the "Build" weekends, where we stake out our space and start to construct our booth. Then 5 weeks of faire... can't wait!!

That sounds so fun. I've always wanted to go to one but never knew where to begin..

That sounds like a blast. I've only gotten to go to one once and it was back when I was a tween with my mom. Not so much fun. rofl

So, are you going to be selling wares out of your booth? What kinds of things do you do for fun at a ren faire?

I can't wait for it to start! I think celebrating my birthday at Renfaire is a totally fab idea! And the fact that it's Masquerade weekend for my birthday weekend is totally perfect! My mask I bought last year will fit right in! And then I think it's two weeks later it's fantasy weekend and I can totally go prancing around in wings! I can't wait!

I actually work for a costume rental booth. I like being in the dressing room dressing up the ladies in their bodices, etc and I get pretty decent tips on top of it biggrin

The faire is open from 10 - 6 and I usually work the opening 4 hours but, if we need the extra heads then I might want to pick up some extra hours here and there 'cause I can definitely use the money. razz

Once my shift is over I usually decompress a bit in the back of the booth. Our particular booth has a decent sized "backyard" for us to hang out in. Eat, drink and be merry the rest of the day, check out a few shows and prance around the "town" =^_^=

A good way to start is to find your closest faire and just GO! Lol! You don't even have to be in costume to go check it out the first couple of times. If you find you really like it, and you are an okay sewer, you can whip together costume pieces.

I made my skirts and a chemise.... bought my bodices (probably the most complicated part of the costume to make)

I just got back from the 3rd weekend of build (one more weekend to go and then we are open for business!)
I knew I wasn't going to be of much help this weekend since I have a concussion from the car accident last Wednesday and am having a lot of painful spots throughout my body but, I wanted to still go so that I could get out of the house as well as distract myself from the depression that the accident has set in.
The booth got a lot accomplished! We put up the main tent, set up the clothing racks and cubby racks, set the counter and built the walls around the booth, creating an employee back room that is much bigger than the previous years.
Next weekend we will finish some of the walls and dressing rooms as well as hang and inventory the costumes, put in the back room kitchen and... whatever else is left razz I won't be there for the first half of the weekend though (Friday - Saturday) because I have tickets to Evil Dead the Musical! I will definitely be making the trek down there Sunday though so I can get my camping pass, at least, for the opening weekend.

Build and workshops are finally over and this weekend is the opening weekend! If anyone is from California and is within driving distance to Gilroy/Hollister, come on down! Since it's opening weekend, there is a 2 for 1 coupon that can be printed from the website. biggrin

Survived opening weekend!

And I am stuffed to the gills in nasty allergy-ness. Ug.

Survived 2md weekend!

Friday was my 2 yr anniversary with my bf so we got our camping gear set up and drove into Hollister for some nommy sushi! I am going to try and see if he wants to go there again this weekend, possibly, depending on the funds available.
Saturday I ended up getting a stuffy head and terrible cough from allergies and crashing out early. Sunday was much better.

The over all weekend was fairly slow for us. This made the weekend feel very long and I lost an hour of work due to being cut loose early.

I also lost my favorite tankard strap. cat_crying

On the plus side, I got to see/hang with 2 friends, including Kusanagi!

Survived 3rd weekend of Ren Faire and the Pirate invasion!

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the workings of the after hours carny crowd but there are usually gatherings and parties of sort. This past weekend there was an all-girl party called Gigglefest. The theme this year was disco so I dressed up and danced my butt off to disco music while being waited on by "cabana boys" the only men allowed in until the last hour. Cabana boys have to do whatever you say... for instance, I didn't have to wait in line for drinks. I would send one of the boys to get one from behind the bar for me and my friend Gashly got a foot massage.
Also, those of you out there that actual drink totally agree that with experience you can gauge your level of tipsiness by your drink count. Now, I had 2 mai tai's and 2 vodka cran's... this is nothing that would get me drunk usually but I WAS! I underestimated the jello shots I had along the way and they came back to haunt me. Ack!
Anyhoo, I had my first faire hangover Saturday morning (but still managed to swing 4 hours of work because I'm awesome!)

Next weekend is Fantasy weekend and hopefully I will see Kusanagi there as well!!

Week 4 is done and gone. It was Fantasy weekend and I was feeling kind of blah. I think I was getting ready to get sick.... again...
Anyhoo, brought my son with me for the weekend and he was made an honorary constable! The sash was so big that it wrapped around him double:

Alrighty! This is probably my final post for the Ren Faire since last weekend was the 5th and final weekend and I will not be participating in tear-down due to health reasons.
I managed to barely survive the weekend this time. I was amped up and ready to party out my final days since my life complications have very much inserted themselves in my physical and mental ability and in turn affected the run of faire for me.
But alas! I have been thwarted in my efforts!
The cold I had gotten at the beginning of the run tapered off and picked up and became 10x worse Saturday night. I was doing okay, spent a nice portion of Saturday with my friend Blythe, whom I hadn't seen in 2 years and was visiting faire. At the end of the day I decided to hang out on the hay bails with a couple of friends and noticed a nasty smell of mold from them. Either way, within hours of sitting there and hanging out I was coughing more and feeling downright fatigued. Went to bed and woke up coughing throughout the night.

Sunday I was a total stool. My shift was hard because for some reason it was very humid inside the dressing tent and hard for me to breathe. I changed my bodice into one that offered more flexibility around the rib area and it was made easier but still, coughing and breathing issues continued.
This was a major downer since my bf's cousin was visiting and it was the last day.
I managed to get my obligatory annual Sin-on-a-Stick (cheesecake dipped in chocolate) but I ended up staying behind the booth for the greater part of my free afternoon.
When it came time to pack up our camping equipment and all that would be coming home with us, I ended up going into a full blown asthma attack. My bf was freaked out and wanted to just ditch everything and take me out of the camp area so I could get away from the dust. I wanted to just pack everything and get it over with so that I could get out of the area for good. I ended up sitting in the car as he took down the tent and loaded up the car, which helped and my breathing eased a little bit.
Monday I went to the ER, as per the prompts of my nurse and was diagnosed with Asthmatic Bronchitis. Today is the last day of my Dr.'s note before returning to school and I am still having a few issues breathing when I wake up and extreme coughing fits throughout the day. This has definitely put a hamper on my participating in tearing down the booth this weekend.

Anyhoo, here is a pic of my friend Blythe and I taken Saturday before my health took a dive:
