This is an Open Roleplay that will include much of the actual story of the Search. The ORP will be open to everyone, and people may join in immediately, or wait a while, without penalty. In addition to the prizes for this event, this ORP offers the chance to rack up a few more RP points toward Yao Long status for everyone. And you do not have to choose one single Long to play with. If you have more than one, you're welcome to USE more than one!

Periodically during this ORP, Metaplot Posts pushing the story along will be posted in the thread by Fei Yi Long, Lexenos the Knight, and Abishai Sarihe. These posts will be clearly marked, as well as linked in this post, to allow people to easily see the direction of the actual metaplot, no matter when and how often they join in. When The Search event is over, this thread will be locked and archived in the Lore and Information portion of the guild.

I hope everyone will enjoy The Search!

The bok choy made a dull thud as Fei set it firmly down beside his apprentice's cutting board, right next to one other. A third was seated on the board. "You'll need more," he said, his voice firm and loud enough to counter the clatter of pots and woks, the strike of metal on metal and on wood and stone. Glancing around the kitchen, and satisfied that his apprentices had it under control for the slower stretch between lunch and dinner, he turned to make his way out to the restaurant itself. Standing near the doorway, but not in it, he watched Lin deftly weaving between tables with a tray of plates, and directing her own apprentices. The sight of her brought another smile to his face... a smile that faded almost instantly as he glanced at the front of the restaurant in time to see three Shen Zui tromp into the Wei Kun Lian, their faces set in scowls.

It's beginning, he thought to himself, wondering if the wards and spells of protection he had placed around the family and egg would be enough, even with the added might of Lin's own magic to reinforce his. For now, all he could do was wait and learn the strength of these Long, to see how they would interact with the Long around them, and how his own people, the Xun Chang, would take to having them here...

Juanqu sighed as the noise overhead calmed. The lunch hour was over and it sounded like the restaurant was mostly empty now, with only a few footsteps and chair squeaks to be heard now. He'd paced the room under the restaurant where he and his family were hidden many times now. In fact, he knew exactly how many steps it took him to navigate the room.

Always hungry, as the smells of the food above permeated the room quite thoroughly from early in the morning until way late at night, Juanqu headed for the restaurant's main level. While it was calm and quiet, he'd get his own lunch and something for Huohua as well.

As he poked his head up, Juanqu spotted the three Shen Zui entering the restaurant. Startled, he ducked back down into hiding. Those three were frightening! Were they here for the egg? Or all the eggs? Eep! He'd get something to eat later!!

Elsewhere in the city, Tongxing was running errands. He had heard the rumors, the gossip, and he believed it. Unlike some of the other long, he knew there was something outside the Xun Chang borders and he was insanely curious about what lie outside those borders. The rumors confirmed his suspicions, and he was curious about these new winged long that were roaming the city for some reason. He heard they were really mean, and had heard some particularly nasty stories about an angry red one, but he didn't believe that. They couldn't be mean. He hoped they were on a peace excursion, or to share their knowledge, or, his personal favorite, to propagate their species. He really hoped there were some pretty males that had come to visit, he wouldn't mind having some beautiful winged babies. He paused to think of the eggs he had already had, and how beautiful they all were and would no doubt turn out to be.

Suddenly, a shout interrupted his daydreams. He looked for the source, and found one of the new long! Wow, they had really cool leathery wings! But.... While this one wasn't red, he (or she?) was definitely angry. And saying some very mean, uncalled for things. This long wasn't just angry, s/he was being a bully, and being really mean to that Xun Chang. He quickly moved to stand in front of the long being bullied, not really noticing who it was.

"Hey you! Why don't you quit being an a*****e and bullying random people! You wanna bully someone, why don't you try me!"

Tong REALLY hated bullies. He was bullied a lot for not just looking like a girl, but being so obviously gay, so bullying, for ANY reason, really ticked him off.

The winged long growled at him, and muttered something about needing to do things somewhere else.
Tch, bullies, all bark and no bite.

Laike si paused outside of the doors to the restaurant. To be honest, he was a little afraid of that Yao that was here. He had an aura about him, one a lot stronger than all of the Yao back in Chanye Ziben. He would need all of his wits about him, and none of his anger.

He had been too angry. He had let the long pursuit of Huan Baoshi and the egg get to him. It was a stupid mistake. He might as well have let the entire nation know where he was when he shredded that nest. Not to mention that he had basically ruined any chance for Xun Chang allies. He didn't get to be where he was by being stupid. He got there with his cunning. He closed his eyes and breathed out, feeling his surroundings without looking.

I do this for my country.

He opened his eyes and looked at the Shao Xiao and Zhong Yu that he had brought with him. They returned the gaze, and all three entered.

There were two Yao, one female in the dining room, and the one he had seen before looking out from the kitchen. He looked prepared for trouble. Laike si realized that they all had grim looks on their faces. He quickly nudged his companions and set a smile on his face. He needed to make everyone think that he was just visiting, and not completely advertise that he was after something hidden here. He headed toward a nearby empty table and sat down, waiting for a waitress to inevitably come. He would let the Yao make the first move. He would wait, and take up the Yao's attention when the time came. His Shao Xiao and Zhong Yu were there to search the place for odd magical barriers while the Yao was distracted.

Laike si also needed to deal with these stares. He turned to the nearest table and called out.

"Hello! We're travelers from the north, come to explore your country. There's no need to be shy, the only difference is our wings!" He gave a small laugh and rustled his wings to emphasize his point. He glanced over as his companions had followed his lead and started similar conversations.

Hopefully the natives wouldn't be so afraid of them, be so closed to the idea of being on their side. Assimilation was always easier if the county you were assimilating was on friendly terms with you.

Feicui ya li, or Fei as she liked to be called was sitting in the next table. She had seen the strange longs come in like everyone else, but after a couple seconds of looking at them had decided it wasn't a good idea to stare at them.

After all staring was not something nice to do, so when she heard the male's voice she jumped a bit and looked up. She met his eyes and smiled a bit. Her eyes then looked back at his wings when he rustled them and it made her tilt her head a bit.
Those look interesting she thought and looked back at him. "Not the only difference though..." she said looking up at what seemed to be some kind of horns. "But certainly the most noticeable" she added with a soft giggle.

so he had said they had come to explore, but explore for what and to what end, she wondered but never let the friendly smile leave her face. Maybe they weren't as bad or mean as she had heard. And this male wasn't all bad looking after all. She blushed lightly at the thought.
"So have you found our country... interesting so far?" she asked him.

Yes! The native girl had seemed pretty accepting to his conversation.

"Ah, you mean my horns! But mine are still different from others of my country. I broke one in a fight when I was younger, and I decided I liked them shorter anyway." He gave a hearty laugh, possibly a little too hearty. While he had broken one in a fight, he hadn't 'liked them shorter.' He thought the laugh would go well with his fabrication, but he was a fighter, not an actor.

At her next question, he almost lost his smile. He HATED this country. Well, that's not fair, it's a beautiful place, and would make a wonderful addition to the Chanye Ziben empire. "Yes, this country is very beautiful. I'm looking forward to trying the cuisine here, and getting to know the people. Do you eat at this place often, is the food good?"

Well, it wasn't going too bad, and he WAS interested to hear more about this country. But he mustn't forget his goal. He glanced around the room, pretending to look for a waitress, while letting his eyes roam over the door to the kitchen, checking for that Yao.

Fei thought his laugh had been a bit exaggerated, but maybe she was just imagining things as everyone she knew told her repeatedly. Everyone seemed to think she was always hearing things and seeing ghosts where there were none. They probably thought she was a joke, so she wouldn't let that stand out with this male long, she would act as normal as she could. "Well, if you don't mind me saying it, your horns are...." she she was trying to come out with a good word, she didn't want him to go getting angry at her. "well what I mean is that they look good on you. And since I haven't seen long with longer horns I think you look great." she said quickly and blushed. She was rambling and she knew it so she just looked down at her cup of tea and got quiet.

At his next question though she smiled and looked back up and nodded.
"I come here once or twice a week, more when I can. And totally! the food here is amazing!" she exclaimed. No other restaurant was a good as the Wei Kun Lian, and no one cooked as good as Fei Yi did.

Fei got quiet for a second, should she ask? or maybe he would consider it rude?.
"Oh well here goes, after all he was the one starting conversation" she thought before asking."Since you want to know about our country, do you mind me asking... what is yours like?"

Caihong Mengxiang padded into the restaurant hungrily. As soon as she entered, though, she saw a red winged dragon with creepy-looking black horns. She cocked her head curiously and was about to say something when she realized he was in a conversation. He looked nice enough, though. She trotted up to him and cleared her throat nervously. "I...ah, I haven't seen your kind--that is, I haven't seen you around here before...that is, um, I haven't seen you around before...not that you're...ah, especially distinctive...um...what I mean to say is...are you new here?" she finished nervously. Please don't impale me, please don't impale me, please don't impale me! she thought nervously. Holy chizzles, what if he impales me?!?!

They were in his restaurant. The very sight of it pained Fei, and his face settled into a dark frown as he watched from the kitchen doorway for a bit before making his way forward. The red Shen Zui, with the shortened horns, caught his attention, but so did the purple and green Xun Chang that seemed to be... flirting with him?! Easing his face out of the scowl in time, he arrived at their table, gold eyes flicking from her to him and back to her. "Strangers are an unusual sight here," he offered, his voice low. It was a lie. So close to Hengmeng Youshi, it was not uncommon to see travelers all the time, people who'd made their way to the capital for the first time. "It's always good to be cautious, in these times," he added, then beckoned one of Lin's assistants over. "Bring their order directly to me," he directed, locking eyes with the Shen Zui for a moment before turning to head back to the kitchen, his mind a whirl.

Laike si's smile became fixed as she stumbled over the compliments on his horns. He decided not to think about what she was saying, and instead pointed out his companions. "Just look over there at my friends. See, they have the same horns as you, and then a second set that curls back farther than mine."

Ah, his homeland! He could talk about Chanye Ziben all day.

"Our capitol is Chanye Ziben, it is a magnificent place, with buildings three times the height of the ones here. We have scientists that have made technological leaps and bounds, we have metal wagons that move with magic! It's a wondrous place. I live there, and I still find new things to be amazed at every day."

Well, not quite every day, but they did have the best scientists, and Laike si was lucky enough to be high up in the military and be one of the firsts to see whatever new thing they had come up with, and he was usually amazed. Though day-to-day life sometimes made him forget the wonders.

Another female wandered up to him. Why did they come to him and not his Shao Xiao and Zhong Yu? Ugh. He turned his still smiling face toward the newcomer.

"Yes, I am new." Her stuttering annoyed him, but pretty much everything annoyed him right now. He pushed his irritation aside. "I was just telling my lunch companion here about the city that I came from."

And the Yao was on the move. Those words.... Did he know?! No, how could he know about the mission. Well, obviously he knew he needed to protect the egg, especially after he stupidly tore apart the nest stupid stupid, but he couldn't know the details, except for the rumors going around about the angry red long stupid stupid, well damnit. At least he could go on with the plan. He could distract this long. Then the Yao locked eyes with him, and he felt his heart stop for just a beat. If he wasn't so expertly trained, he would've dashed out the door. This long scared him, and for good reason. Then he turned and walked off back to the kitchen, and... he wanted their orders directly? Clearly, Laike si wouldn't touch it now, and he would warn his Shao Xiao and Zhong Yu not to either, but he could order the most complicated thing on the menu, to keep the chef busy with their orders.

His smile turned toward the waitress. "Thank you. I would like the biggest, most grand dish that you have. I've heard this restaurant is the most famous, and I'd love to have your best dish. The same for my companions."

He turned toward his Shao Xiao and Zhong Yu and gave them a small look. They would start their sweep soon, too busy to eat anyway. They were the best at this kind of detection, that's why he had brought them.

The waitress turned to the kitchen and disappeared. Their sweep began.

Fei looked at the other longs, or his 'companions' as he had referred to them, and she noted the difference in their horns. Inwardly she still thought his horns looked nicer. When he started talking about his homeland, she noted, something seemed to change in him, like something sparkled with pride of some sort. She was really immersed in listening to him and all the things he was telling her. Just when she was about to make a comment she too smiled at the new girl. "Seems I'm not the only curious one around" she thought. She turned her attention back to him and again as she was about to speak another presence caught her attention. This time it was Fei Yi.

She smiled and yet again her voice was cut short when she saw the way he looked at her. Disapproval? Anger? What had she felt and seen in his way of locking eyes with her. He certainly didn't seem happy to see her with this male. That was it! He had looked almost angry at this male she was talking to. And this time no one could say she was making up things in her mind. She had seen the way both of them had looked at each other. Added to that, what had Fei Yi meant about not having many new faces around? She knew it was not true, this place was always filled with new faces of travelers, but she said nothing about it.
When Fei Yi left for the kitchen again, only then did Fei realize she was actually holding her breath. She let out her breath slowly making it sound like a small sigh. Her attention turned back to the male dragon.
"Sorry if I"m being nosy, but do you know each other?." she asked.... rats, she just realized she didn't even know the name of the guy she was talking to. When he finished giving the order to the waitress and this left she smiled a bit trying to look relaxed about what had just happened."Oh you are in for a real treat! You really have no idea but the food here is not only the best, but the most delicious. You know I just realized I don't even know your name." she said smiling. She was trying her best to think nothing had just happened and that she was misreading Fei's looks, but still her mind was telling her she wasn't at all wrong about something here. What that something was she was not sure yet.

Click to show.Huan Baoshi was silent as he stepped into the Wei Kun Lian, his head held high and his pale-eyed regard taking in the customers... before settling squarely on the red shen zui, Laike si. Ah. And now they were finally in the same place at the same time. Displeased, he debated briefly the wisdom of slipping back out... but he didn't want to give the three shen zui the satisfaction of thinking they'd run him off. So, instead, he made his way fully into the shop, looking for someone who might be part of the waitstaff.

Ugh, he didn't want to talk about the Yao, he didn't even want to THINK about the Yao.

"No, I don't know him, but he gives off a powerful aura, doesn't he?" He commented casually. Would she ever stop asking questions? He was starting to get to the point where he just didn't want to deal with her anymore. He especially didn't want to give his name. "My name is-"

Huan Baoshi.

His muscles instinctively tensed and a corner of his smile twitched up into a half-snarl before he regained his senses and relaxed.

"Excuse me, I see a friend of mine." He stood up and walked towards his nemesis, the smile big and deceptively friendly on his face.

"Huan Baoshi, you old bird! How are you?" As he neared the blue Shen Shan, he shot him a telepathic message.

I will not fight you, though his eyes seemed to add 'for now.'

"Come, sit with me, let's eat and talk! I have much to tell you." Without waiting for his enemy, he picked out an empty table, one on the opposite side of the room to make Huan Baoshi feel less threatened by the other two Zuis. He walked over to it and sat down, staring pointedly at the Shen Shan.
