Glad someone brought this up. I've been wanting to RP, but have held off for a reason.

Cinna and I have been discussing re-vamping the guild.

Characters would stay the same, but the entire roleplay system would be altered. Why? To help keep "floating timeline syndrome" in check. In other words, to make it so that Christmas and Valentine's day do not happen on the same effective RP day.

Plus, I'd be adding in a ridiculously deceptivly complex turn-by-turn battle system to be used for things like character-on-character arena fights. Attacks from Kronos' army, and hopfully...new CTF games! FINALLY!

BUT WAIT... THERE'S MORE!

My sister went to the offical sponsored Camp Half-Blood they host in TX. (We're probably all too old, although we could be counselers in training wink ) And I know the name of the ROMAN CAMP. Like, the offical name. I even made her get me a t-shirt. So, with this re-vamp...CAMP JUPITER would become a part of our plotlines! Yaaaaayy!

AND IF YOU ACT NOW WE'LL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING!

A new profile skeleton. Which means we'd have to rewrite all of ours. The new one would be more in depth. It'd be a bit of a commitment to write, but I'd need the information for the battle system to work the way I intend, plus it'd speed up claiming. Characters, as mentioned, would stay the same, but we'd have more info.

With that would come...NPCs. These'd be characters like Jezebel (who made an appearance in several TheoXCharlieXLiz situations) that were community owned and available to use by anyone. We'd have several for each cabin (excluding the big three) so that camp didn't seem as empty.

Would now be a good time to mention I'm kind of an unoffical co-captain?

Anywho, I'm really just waiting for Cinna to sign off on this. If you guys post your opinions based on what you've heard so far I'd love it. Obviously I can't tell you everything. Where's the fun in that?

I'm definitely down with that, but I probably should mention that I have cancer, so that may or may not affect my rping. So just though I should give you guys a heads-up if I suddenly disappear.

AWWW MY GOSH, you have cancer, thats so cool I mean sad I mean....I dont really know what to say, I am better at it in real life. You have cancer and you play gaia, your a (pardon my language) Badass! I really hope I can enjoy role-playing with you. And if you do suddenly disappear, then we will make your character go out in such a bad a** way that it will be awesome. And just so you know I am NOT a over weight dude sitting at his computer all day, I am actually on the cross country team and swim team. So you are not talking to loser's here!

xDD Nah it's cool, I understood what you were staying ... or attempting to. I'm looking forward to rping with you all and I'll be back if I disappear, so you don't need to kill him ... yet lol.

YAAAAY! We're making friends!

It occured to me that you guys probably deserve a bit more of an in-depth description of what the reconstruction would entail so that you can offer your opinions. With that in mind, Co-CaptainSpaz is commandeering this thread.

We'll start with profiles, and the battle system.

The profile skeleton needs updating. I've got one in the works that contains a lot more information, including a section for height and weight, background on the mortal parent, some more in-depth psychological analysis, as well as talents and hobbies. Why? For two reasons;

1)Claiming. With the new RP system, our old method of watching your posts to decide on your character's parentage will be inefficent. The new system will allow us to figure out what Olympian your hoping to get your character claimed by. THIS DOESN'T MEAN YOU GET TO CHOOSE! Autoclaiming will still be against the rules, and while you have more say in your claiming, the final decision still rests with the mods. We may decide to put you in a completely seperate cabin for plot purposes, to fill empty cabins, or just for kicks.

2) The battle system...you guys ready? Your mindholes are about to be blown.

I designed this system myself, my goal was to create a system that accounted for the character. That way, a 7-year-old like Theo didn't end up being able to beat...say...David in a fist fight.

I won't go into all the details on how the fight works right now, just the stats and how your profile plays into it.

I divided a character's fighting ability into 9 basic stats, which will be combined when fighting to give a relatively accurate numerical representation of an attacking or defending move.

HP: Just like video games. If it reaches 0 you're toast. This is set at 100 for every character regardless of age.
INT: Battle Intellegence or Intuition. This is how smart your character is. Hyperobservant Charlie or Math-brained David would have unusually high values in this area. This stat is involved in everything your character does
STR: Strength. How hard of a punch does your character pack? This is the basic attack stat involved in all attack moves.
DEF: Defence. How much can your character take? This is the basic stat for any blocking moves.
AGL: Agility. This factors into both attacking and defending moves. How fast is your character? How good are their reflexes?
SR: Short range weapon skill. How good is your character with a sword, spear, dagger, or axe?
MR: Mid range weapon skill. How about with a throwing knife or javelin?
LR: Long range weapon skill. Bows? Guns?
SP: Special. This allows you to activate a variety of special demigod powers (I have them written up) that could influence the turn of events in the battle by decreasing your foe's stats or increasing your own. For the most part, you use the default Special moves given to you based on your claiming, but special circumstances may give you bonus powers. The numerical value for your Special Stat represents the number of times you can use an ability in battle. 3 SP points means 3 opportunities to use your powers. Because of their natural abilities, Big Three kids are going to have higher SP stats. It's not favoritism, they just luck out.

Why have all these stats? Because I want the system to be completely unique to each character. These stats allow me to tweak a character's aspects based on physique, weapons, and armor. In the end, certain stats get added together while you fight (I.E. an attack move with a sword requires you to total INT (which comes with everything), STR, AGL, and SR). While it may seem pointless to make so many divisions, the variety of stats allows the writer to know whether he was beaten because he was weaker or just slower. It also makes the Random Number Generator more manipulatable. I'll give more details on that when the system rolls out.

What's this have to do with profiles? Simple. When you post a profile, I'll go through it with a fine-toothed comb, looking for details that would influence the character's behavior in battle. If your character were a track star, I'd give them an agility bonus. If your character was overweight, I'd lower some of their stats appropriatly.

SO! If you give me more detail in the profile, I'll give you a more accurate statistical representation of your character. If I feel your character is too powerful (fencing champ who also is a semipro wrestler who dabbles in archery and has a 4.0) I'll ask you to tone him down. GIRL characters will have slightly lower baseline STR, DEF, and AGL then average guys. I'm not sexist, I have to account for the hormones.

As stated, I'll roll out a more informational introduction with the actual battle system. This is already a lot to take in, but if you guys could digest that and comment I'd love it! I'm free to answer questions. Soon I'll get a post up explaining the new RP system.

Well...Personally I thought Cinna's old system was great, if anything I'd have made a new character because mine was a bit quiet and out-of-action (difficult to RP with). It's true the skeleton was a little lacking, and I myself have wondered about NPCs for specific camp roleplays. Anyways, it's your call, but I'm putting that out there.

I agree Spaz, but you got to remember, big three characters cant just ride to victory on there special abilities, they need to have a cool down and make you tired, differing on each one. And this skill system is starting to sound like fall out new vegus.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 20, 2011 12:01 pm

Oh, of course there's downsides to the system for Big Threes. They aren't going to be all powerful. There's also a power triangle (think rock paper scissors) between the three of them in terms of powers. I'll get there later.

The new system would be relatively simple. It would play on the fact that our characters have formed these little groups.

Instead of having a whole bunch of threads for various camp areas, we'd have two subforums. One for "In-Camp RPs" and one for "Out-of-camp RPs"

When you want to RP, you start a thread with the other people who are going to be involved. Say Charlie, Liz, Camille and Theo were gonna be in an RP together. I'd make a thread titled as follows;

*Insert a witty and creative title based on what we plan on having happen* (Charlie/Liz/Theo/Camille)

The first post would say the following at the top

Thread title
Current date: This is the day you created the thread, as well as the date in the roleplay. If I started a thread with Charlie waking up today, he'd be waking up on the 20th.
Plot duration: This is the number of in-roleplay days that have occured (the number of times the characters have gone to sleep). You'd update this as the thread grows.

Then, all of the posting for the group would occur in one thread. No changing threads based on location. Once you feel the thread has served its purpose, it'd be moved to an archives thread.

I can hear the question forming on your lips: Spaz, why would you do this? With this system, we're limited to a single group of people in a single thread without external interaction. Why? Why? Why?

Three reasons;
1)We form groups like this anyway. We all have a few people we like to RP with, and this would allow us to focus on those dynamics. We could still RP with new members as they come.

2) Population. The problem with moving from thread to thread is sometimes plotlines mesh. Charlie and Liz's picnic is combined with Liz's and Kiara's purely because they're both at the Lake. Big whoop right? It sure is. Let's say David and Kiara initiate contact with Charlie and Liz at the lake. But then I go inactive for a month. The entire RP stops and three characters end up doing nothing until I return. But, if Charlie and Liz had their own thread devoted to a picnic, and David and Kiara had their own thread devoted to a picnic, and the twain never meet, then when I go inactive for a month, David and Kiara remain unaffected. Liz is stuck, but one character being frozen is better than three.

3)Timelines. The current nature of the RP makes it so that one day can take three months to write and we end up with two characters in two completely different seasons writing at the same time. Problematic. With this system, each individual "plot" is isolated in it's own thread. That way, one group can be in December and one in January with no consequence, because the two don't interact. This also isolates the member-made plots from intercepting the dances, so we don't end up screwing the whole thing over.

Does this make sense at all?
