In a place without space, in a dimension removed from time, there was the man and the woman.
The man and the woman watched the universe begin, watched it grow, and watched others of its kind begin and grow themselves.
The man and the woman looked on in interest as the great building blocks of the cosmos began to create stars, and the planets that surrounded them. They watched as life began on these planets, starting out as the smallest bacterium, and slowly becoming more and more complex organisms.
The man and the woman became bored of endless watching and began to play with the primordial powers, creating great creatures from their vast imaginations. Large, reptilian creatures roamed one small planet, eating each other and the earth around them.
On another planet, they created beautiful, whale – like creatures that swam the skies, with delicate, lacy flippers not unlike a dragonflies wings.
They created dragons and giants, even dolphins.
But one day, millions of years later, on a small planet long since abandoned, an organism evolved into something fantastic.
The man and the woman loved the organism so, and watched it grow avidly. They soon fashioned themselves bodies after this organism, created children of their own – these, the organism began to call ‘gods’. The man, woman and their children created more organisms together, different kinds and in lots of different universes.
But soon the man and woman grew bored again, and retired to their home, leaving their children to their own devices. The children began to squabble, fighting first amongst themselves, then in the universes themselves. So many beautiful creatures were destroyed, so many universes consumed in the children’s lust for power.
But eventually even the children grew tired, and retired to their own pocket dimensions to create universes of their own.
And still the man and the woman watched.
Life went on without the man and woman, and it got tiresome. Soon, the man and woman decided that they would cease to exist, but that they would have one last fling.
They would gather up organisms from every dimension, and put them through a series of tests. Why? Because.
It’s not like the organisms have any choice in the matter.
Anyway. There might be rewards!
