A Little About Me
☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰☰

Hello, my birth certificate reads Jessica Raquelle McKinley.
But I'd really like it if you just called me Jess, Raqi or Mickey.
Last time I checked, I was a girl.
I greeted the world on August fourteenth.
And so far I've blown out seventeen candles.
Poeple also know me as Miss Confused.

Digging in Deeper?

It's the way I am, like it or not.
Should she? Or shouldn't she? Jess is always asking herself those same two questions. She is very unsure of herself, all except when she's on her horse. When she's riding, she is quite confident, and is out to win. Jess is a very competitive rider and she knows how good she is. She knows when to push herself and her horse, but at the same time she knows her limits. She would never put herself or her horse in danger. However, she can be a little bit or a risky rider on a jumping course, whether it be show jumping or cross country. She will take some risks to shave time or push the horse, but only when she feels that she and her horse can take it. She loves to win. But, first and foremost in her mind is the safety of her horse. Yes, she will take some unnecessary risks, but her horse's safety is of the utmost importance. Jess trusts her horse with her life, and that trust is reciprocated. Thunder may have been rebellious and difficult to train, but now he is very trusting and reliable. Though he may have his bad days, Jess is always willing to support him. She holds him very dear to her horse and her love for him is undying. She has a very deep bond with her horse and they have been through many trials together. Whether it be shows or just trail riding, Thunder is always willing to perform for his rider. However, if a different, unexperienced rider is put on the appaloosa gelding, he will pull every kind of stunt in the book to get that person off. Yet he is a different horse when Jess gets on him. He can be a bit stubborn at times, but most of the time he is willing to perform. However, off of her horse, Jess is a different person. She is a bit shy and timid with people she doesn't know or doesn't know to well, and is always constantly second guessing herself. She can also be very indecisive. However, though, when something needs to be done and no one is stepping forward, Jess will step forward and take charge, but always has someone along with her. Rarely does that happen, though. She doesn't like to be the first to do anything, because of her shyness. Other than riding, of course! Jess is a tomboy at heart and loves to get dirty. She will buckle down and get into the nitty gritty and get things done. She is a perfectionist- she won't stop anything until it is done perfectly. And that is the main reason that her tack is definitely some of the cleanest at the stable. She's also a very loyal person and quite trustworthy, but hates conflict. She will stop and argument if she can, pointing out a compromise, though she hates to compromise anyone's feelings. Jess will always go out of her way to make people feel better or boost their confidence. And because of her loyalty to Miss So Not Over Him and Mister Daredevil, she would never admit to her feelings about Miss So Not Over Him's ex-boyfriend, Mister Flirt. She is sometimes called Mickey by her very close friends, but for a special purpose. To sum this blonde up, she is a very intelligent, hard working, loyal, confident, and somewhat risky rider. But hey, it's what makes Jess Jess.

Yes, I look awesome
Jess is a long, lean riding machine. She is tall, at 6 foot one inch, and has very long legs. She is slender but not skinny, and proportioned perfectly. She has long blonde hair that falls a bit lower than her shoulders, and is usually in a ponytail. Her hair is silky and easy to work with, so sometimes she will come to the barn with gentle waves. Her skin is a flawless ivory that becomes deeply tanned during the summer months because of her love of being outside. Her eyes are a deep hazel, flecked with green and gold. They are quite alluring and easy to get lost in. Jess honestly does not have any idea of her beauty, but sees herself as an average teen with a talent for riding. She usually wears jeans, t-shirts, and boots, but also wears breeches a fair amount as well. She hardly ever wears skirts or dresses, because she does not like them, but will sometimes wear one for a very special occasion. Other than that, she wouldn't be caught dead in one. She always wears a special amethyst pendant around her neck that is a family heirloom- her grandmother gave is to her on her deathbed. Jess keeps it very close to her heart, because her grandmother was the one who encouraged her horse enthusiasm and never stopped supporting her.

I was so cute when I was a baby!
Jess was born on the California beach. Her mother and father were happily married, her father a successful business man and her mother a fashion designer. They owned a Malibu beach house that overlooked a large section of the sunny California shore, with crystal blue water lapping at the pale sandy beach. A girl's dream come true? Rich parents, a beach house, a fashionista as a mother? The only problem with that was Jess didn't like it. When she was young, her mother would use her as a model for her children's line. Jess was launched into a world of cameras, clothes, and catastrophe. One that she didn't want to be in. From early on, Jess developed a hatred for the color pink. Maybe that was because all she wore when she was young was pink! Her mother made her into a blushing flower, much to her dislike. The young girl was used as a pawn in her mother's huge game, but she still had a pretty good childhood. Her father understood how much she disliked being a "model", and would always make time to take her to the beach. She loved the beach! The feeling of the warm sand beneath her feet, the waves gently lapping at her feet, and the sound of splashing and seagulls. Of course, when they weren't screeching. The sound of the surf was the best sound in the world! Jess loved to collect seashells and different rocks she would find on the beach, but her favorite activity? Building sandcastles!

Jess and her father would spend hours on the beach outside their house, hauling water and shaping sand. Although almost everything they built fell down, Jess loved building with her hands. She loved gitting dirty and feeling the sand squish in her fingers. She and her father grew very close during these many hours in the sun. While she and her mother grew distant, her father became like her best friend. She trusted him and he would always stand up for her in any right situation. Not to say he wouldn't punish her when she was in the wrong, but that was part of parenting. As Jess grew older, she began to look more like her father. She had his long and lean build, and his deep, riveting hazel eyes. The only thing she got from her mother was the blonde hair and her impeccable style. Jess grew to be more and more like her father, but soon she became to shape into her own person.

While her parents hated to get dirty, she loved it. She would dance in the rain and play in the mud. She would get herself covered in sand and loving every minute of it. She loved the beach! She eventually taught herself to surf, and though she didn't compete, she had fun showdowns wih her friends. She would totally kick their boards. Even though she loved surfing anf the beach, Jess still felt that she needed something else. That surfing was really just a hobby, a way to kill time. She wanted something she could devote her life to. And it wasn't going to be a board and saltwater waves.

Jess had gone to a fair with her parents and loved watching the animals. She found that her favorite animal was the horse. Jess loved watching riders move with their horses as if they were one. How the horses seemed to know exactly what the riders wanted and executed it perfectly. Jess did some research and decided she wanted to give it a shot. She found a good stable only a couple miles from her home, and she brought it to her father. Now, her father was supportive, but he would push her to strive for her best. After some convincing, he gave. Jess was ecstatic! She made an appointment with a trainer for a lesson. But then the question arose- what was she supposed to wear? She wasn't one that worried about her clothes; she wouldn't be caught dead doing that. But still. Whenever Jess watched professional riders perform, they always seemed to have these tight beige pants and tall black boots. Deciding to go on that, Jess rummaged around hers and her mother's closet. She eventually found a pair of skinny jeans and some black boots with a short heel. Hoping that would make the cut, Jess set her clothes out. The next day marked her lesson!

Early the next morning, Jess was up and dressed in her jeans, boots, and a spring green tee shirt. She twisted her silky blonde hair into a ponytail, grabbed her watch, and headed out. She swiped a bagel for a quick breakfast and then hopped into the car with her father, who was dressed in his business suit, as always. She was so excited on the whole ride there! When they got there, Jess got some pretty strange looks. She obviously was new. But what was a ten year old doing with a father in a suit, in a stable?! Jess set her shoulders and ignored the looks, finding the trainer fairly easily. The girl was put on a large bay Thoroughbred gelding named Rookie. Though his size was intimidating, Jess refused to give in to inner fears. This was what she had been wanting to do forever. Jess was taken into an arena and helped on, and she settled easily into the small English saddle. The trainer began some basic moves, but it was clear that Jess was a natural. She moved effortlessly with the horse, and her posture was near picture perfect. She had real potential, and the trainer noticed that. Jess had a perfect lesson; she knew that this was what she wanted to do. It just felt so right being on the horse's back, and Jess had a lot of confidence. As she began to become a regular at the stable, she got better and better on Rookie. She also began to order some actual riding clothes; breeches, paddock boots and tall boots, half chaps, a few huntcoats and show shirts, and of course, a velvet helmet of her own. Jess began to get better and better, and soon was climbing the ranks at the stable.

She and Rookie became a great team. She learned how to jump and do dressage on him. She flew over every jump, glided effortlessly through every dressage test, and soon was on her way in the show circuit. She competed at many classics, invitationals, schooling shows, and even some national shows. She became the star jumper of the stable. She grew to be very close to a small group of girls and a boy. Her close friends at the stable were Steph, Arianna, and Chad. The four of them were star riders. They were known throughout the region and definitely the best at the stable. Jess really loved her friends. In fact, about a year after she joined, Chad started calling her McKinley. Soon enough, Steph and Ari caught on and evolved "McKinley" into "Mickey". Jess was no longer the Jessica she once was, but now known to her close friends as Mickey. She loved that nickname from the start. Jess and her friends got along great, until, five years later, Jess had to leave.

The teenager had been acceped into a prestigious boarding school with a top notch equestrian program. She had applied, not thinking she would get in, but she did. She managed it! Jess was accepted! When her parents heard the news, they were overcome with excitement. While her mother scrambled to find chic decorations for her dorm room and the best outfits, her father had her true interest at heart. While he knew she loved Rookie, he also knew she would need a good horse to ride at the school. He broke the news to her over dinner. Jess almost did a spittake. She was getting her own horse! Her. Own. Horse! They were going to start looking on the weekend- which seemed like an eternity away! But it got there soon enough. Jess and her father went to many different horse farms, never finding one that fit Jess. She was almost ready to give up when they found him. Him. The horse that was perfect for Jess.

He was rowdy. Unpredicatable. Sometimes uncontrollable. But Jess fell in love with him. He was a gorgeous Appaloosa gelding with champion bloodlines and a champion build. Sure, he would require training. But he was wha she wanted! After much haggling with the owner, Jess finally was able to take him home. She brought him to the stable and showed him to all her friends, which, by the way, were quite jealous. At first, they were afraid of him. He would lunge out and snap at them, meanwhile trying to kick Jess. The gelding was unsafe and nasty. But, Jess was ready for the workload. She wanted this SO badly. It was worth it!

After months of getting bucked off and endless hours of training, the summer had ended. It was time to leave for school. The gelding, which Jess had named Thunder and Lightning; Thunder for short, had come a long way. He was now very easy to control and responded perfectly to Jess's cues. He was definitely a champion. He was one of the highest jumpers at the stable, and not to mention one of the best dressage horses. He was fiercely loyal to Jess and would put himself in danger to protect her. He went from a mean, nasty horse to an angel that could be ridden by anyone and very calm and easygoing. He definitely was challenging, but now he had become a great all around horse that loved attention. He is super friendly and easygoing, but can sometimes have his days where his former personality flares up; all horses have bad days. The night before she departed, Jess took him out on a sunset ride on the beach. She always wanted to go cantering bareback along the beaches, but never got there. But that night, her dream came true. She was galloping along the sandy Malibu beach, her horse's hooves splashing through the water. It truly was a night to remember.

Jess was actually doing pretty well at her school. She was on the advanced riding team and won at every one of her shows. She and Thunder were an unstoppable team. But she wanted to go bigger. And that was why, when she found out about Summer Stone Ranch, she was excited. Very, very excited. She signed up immediately and was accepted in as a summer program participant. She was so excited to go! All she wanted to do was go and improve her riding, win shows, and become a better team with Thunder. But things weren't that easy.

When Jess got to Summer Stone Ranch, she was a bit shy. She didn't talk too much, but Miss So Not Over Him welcomed her. She became Jess's first friend. She also was the first one to start calling her Mickey. She and Jess just clicked. Jess also befriended everyone else, but Miss So Not Over Him was her best friend. She also grew to develop a crush on Mister Daredevil, but she had no idea that the feeling was reciprocated. Eventually, the two started dating. But now, with Miss So Not Over Him so distraught over her breakup with Mister Flirt, and Mister Flirt flirting with Jess, she has no idea what to do. She just wants everything to go back to normal and things to stop being so confusing!

Shh! Don't tell anyone!
- Her special nickname is Mickey, given to her by her old stablemates
