Setting: A few years from now, 2030.
Story:
When the major corporations banded together several years ago, there was a basic shuffling of internet providers and pricing. In a bold move, the board of directors of the controlling company, Cry-Corp, threw out pricing entirely, making internet access free and fast for everyone. The rest of the world followed suit shortly afterwards.
And soon after that, Cry Corp released the first ever fully interactive game, called Twilight Forest. Using a pair of VR goggles and gloves, the players have full control of everything they do, and the game looks and feels like real life, with true life physics, sound, lighting, everything.
When it caught on, it was like wildfire. That was several years ago. This medieval fantasy adventure is a juggernaut in the entertainment industry today, with over 600 million players worldwide.
When Cry Corp announced a contest, a group of the most elite players in the game stepped up to the plate. They originally started out as Beta Testers, and became one of the top teams online. The contest was simple, it seemed. Find a secret portal in the game, go to the secret area, and defeat the toughest monsters and bosses ever created for the game.
It seemed simple enough, then they dropped the other shoe. By using a means of experimental brain scanning technology, they could take one's brainwaves, their conciousness, and put it into the game, permanently. These characters that win this challenege will be offered this chance, one time only. Win, and live forever in the game they love.
The Betas, as the story goes, went to this level, and defeated the enemy. But a traitorous member, Corwan, used a hacked spell and deleted everyone's accounts, and took the reward for himself. He now resides in an area just beyond the hidden level, living forever in a world of his own creation as his reward, albeit stolen.
The Beta's, however, have vowed revenge. They are recreating their accounts to go back and find the traitor, and take what should be theres. But when the reach the end of the road, will they take the reward, or refuse it?
