The Rebels are idealists that think they can change the order of the galaxy. They feel that the Empire is too heavy handed with punishment, and taxes its citizens tot he breaking point with the various military projects, forced military service for dissident planets, and forced labor for dangerous mining operations that they have plenty of machines to do safely.
Generally, the Rebels are underfunded and outgunned compared to the might of the Empire. They make use of mercenaries when available, and they have many friends in the less legal areas of the galaxy as well, though not all outlaws, mercenaries, and smugglers support the rebellion.
The Rebels make use of abandoned military bases and old smuggler or pirate bases. Currently, they have many such outposts in various sectors, but are still unable to penetrate the security of the Alpha Quadrant to have a presence there.
Like outlaws, the Rebels have access to the black market, and so have access to stolen Imperial military technologies that others do not have.
Currently, the Rebels are commanded by General Taryn Sise, a former Imperial officer. She is determined, and ruthless when the stakes are high and no other options are available. Otherwise, she generally tries to be a better person then Imperial Commanders.

Rebel Classes:
These are just some of the classes for the Rebels. They have no race restrictions, as they are not as picky as the Empire.
Trooper-infantry
Pilot
Ship Captain
Smuggler
Sabotuer-subject to approval.
Assassin- subject to approval.
Troop Commander-leads groups of about ten to fifteen troopers.
General- only two are currently available, one will be General Sise. subject to approval for both.
Admiral- commands the Rebel Armada. Only one available.
Medic
Cook
Quartermaster
Recon Team-stealth recon experts. elite troopers.
Recon Captain- commands Recon Teams. Elite Troop Commander.
