Setting: Modern Day. In a world of Werewolves vs. Vampires with humans and hunters caught in the middle.

Denver, Colorado. A young boy in high school, entering the height of life. With a bounce in his step, pep in his voice, and all the energy of a five year old, this one got around. With a smile that puts everyone at ease and a laugh that lifts the spirits... You can tell that this boy is loved by his family.

No one would suspect him for being a vampire.

Background: Minato Mikomi is a teenage vampire of 18 years old. No, he was not made, he was born. Both his parents were purebred vampires of a high pedigree. They were respected and looked up to by those beneath them and even above them. The father was tall, lean, strong, and charismatic. The mother was beautiful, graceful, serene, and kind to all she met.

No one would suspect them as traitors.

A clan of werewolves, trapped deep within vampire territory in Canada. Day-by-day, mile-by-mile, the vampire couple had secretly been helping the clan to the border. Even during the days right after the woman had given birth to her firstborn child, she still helped the clan move about. Everything was going great...

Who knew...that one of the werewolves was a spy for the vampires.

The couple was forced to flee with the werewolf clan. A true flight for freedom. But they knew...they all knew...that escape was unlikely. So...the male vampire decided to fight, for both the werewolf clan that they had become good friends with and his mate and newborn child. He was fighting just fine, but he knew that, for sure, he would not make it out alive. Sensing this, the mother handed her child over to one of the werewolf couples who had a young infant child of their own. "His name...is Minato Mikomi!" Then she ran back to help her mate. The child safe with the werewolves, she was able to dedicate herself to protecting her mate. One thing was good about this though, the vampire couple excelled at battling other vampires. It was what they were known for doing best.

They didn't see 'It' coming.

With so many vampires around, drowned in their scent and too alert to it...the lone spy in the forest of needles. Several well-aimed attacks and the couple was shredded by the forest as a finisher. They were not dead, as their heads and their hearts had not been pierced. No...traitors suffered a different punishment, one worse than death.

Self-sacrifice for the win.

The were clan made it out of Canada safely. Out of vampire territory and within the human society. Like that, the chase was over. But what of the child? The clan raised him, of course, as one of their own...only a vampire. He grew with the couple he was first handed off to. Minato and the werewolf grew up like siblings and it has been that way...till now.

Present: Minato knew he was a vampire, but he didn't think it made him different from the other werewolves. He was neither weaker, nor stronger. It was all a matter of how much training and solo practice he'd had. But nowadays, his mind was preoccupied...with thoughts of ______.

Sure, they grew up like brothers, but he knew, from the very beginning, that they were everything but. Ever since he reached a certain age (15) his thoughts went from simple fun to...things that were probably not so healthy for the mental psyche. Eventually, this came to materialize itself in the form of adoration and infatuation for the other boy whom he once treated like an older brother. By day, his form was burned into his eyes as he followed behind him to school everyday. At night, as he slept in his bed, his dreams were embarrassing little numbers and made it necessary to wake up early than everyone else. Most of these things made sense to Minato, sure. But still...he had to wonder why...that in each and every one of those dreams..._____ had him tied up in chains?

Minato woke up to sunlight weakly streaming through his window blinds. The sun was only beginning to peak over the horizon. He yawned and looked down at his bed sheets, making a face at what he saw. "A-Again? This is starting to get...out of hand." He stretched before rolling out of bed and taking his sheets with him to be cleaned while he took a bath. After this was done, he put some new ones on the bed and got dressed for school.

Fully dressed, he walked downstairs with his bag and draped it over the back of his chair. Today...perhaps...I could cook something for lunch myself? And...and then... He started fantasizing about sharing his lunch with Cain, but he quickly put a stop to it by shaking his head. No! No this early in the morning! Besides, he only eats meat, while I pretty much like all sorts of food! I'll start off with making food for myself! With this in mind, he took out a few ingredients and started making his lunch for the day.

Cain, merely a lump beneath his covers even while Minato was up at the crack of dawn, groaned when his very loud and screamingly obnoxious alarm clock went off. With a roughly thrown hand he smacked the thing silent before sitting up, scratching the back of his bark brown hair. He yawned widely, never a morning person, and got up. He slept in just boxers, so it was very easy to just snatch some clothing from where it lay around his room. If one didn't know he was a teenager, one might've thought the room had been ransacked, seeing as everything was thrown around everywhere. But Cain saw order in this mess, easily fishing out some jeans and a shirt, pausing by his door frame as he wondered what else he might need. Oh yeah. Diving back in, the wereteen dug out his back pack and brought it downstairs with him. "Morning, Minato," Cain greeted with another yawn.

Letting his pack hit the floor, he opened the fridge, pulling out cuts of beef and ham. Taking the packaged slices with him to the counter he looked sleepily over at what his vampire brother was making, sniffing curiously while he himself set to work putting as much plain meat as he could between two slices of bread.

"Mornin' boys," a lower, older voice sounded, the form of their father standing in the kitchen doorway with a wolfish grin. "Getting your own lunch ready today are you? The missis will be so proud." Father Frederick pulled out a tissue to dab at non-existent tears. "I remember like it was yesterday she was cooking away, making you both meals to take with you to school." The irony being 'Mom' had cooked both of the boys lunches yesterday because they'd both been late.

Cain rolled his eyes. "Dad ... come on; we're not little kids."

"And yet you have yet to do your own laundry, cook your own meat, or own a home." Dad said with a chuckle. "You should do more like Mint," their pet name for the vampire, while Cain's was 'Sugarcane.' "He does his own laundry. And makes his own bed. Plus, I'm fairly sure your little brother can actually see the floor of his room." Frederick gave Minato a wink, teasing the both of them.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:07 am

{Mint? Sugarcane!? Really!?!? Lmao!}

Minato looked up as Cain entered the room. "Morning!" He smiled at the other. As he resumed making his own lunch, he occasionally took a few peeks, only to see that his 'brother' was piling his sandwich with meat like always. "Hahaha..." The sight of it made him laugh a bit.

He gave a wave as another man, his father, entered the room. "Morning, dad!" He got another laugh as he listened to him talk about their mother. "Hey...if you keep making me laugh like that... ...You should try being a comedian." He also remembered that they were later yesterday.

Minato finished making his lunch and started packing it away. He listened as their father went on about how they had yet to cook their own meat and own a home. "I'm not too sure about a home, but...didn't you say you'd take us hunting this weekend?" He knew Cain was excited at the notion, but Minato...he...it wasn't that much of a thrill for him now as it was when he was a child. Nowadays, his stomach always did flip-flops whenever he thought about killing something for their meat...and blood. Ugh...stop thinking about it. You'll be fine! He stood up and shouldered his bag. "Well...I simply find personal advantages to doing my own laundry..." He winced a bit at the nickname. "Remind me again why my nickname is 'Mint'?"

((It's what came to my odd, odd mind >w< Oh, and you're open to play the mother, if you wish))

Cain rolled his eyes. "Why cook meat when it's so much better raw?" Though the teen did perk up at being reminded that soon they would go hunting. YES. Though, Dad did chuckle, going up between the two of them and forcing Cain--groaning--to put some of the over-piled meat sandwich back.

"You're Mint, Minato, because the only other word that came to mine with your name was 'Minute,' and that wouldn't have worked with nearly as much embarrassment!"

"I knew it! Your goal in life is to embarrass the heck out of us before we graduate!" Cain exclaimed, grabbing his sandwich and stuffing it in a bag before stuffing that bag in his backpack. "Come on Minato; before he starts talking about our youth again!" The wereteen was quick out the door, heading for the car he drove to school. Half the time they took the bus--because there were only two cars and both parents worked--but today Dad was only doing stuff from his laptop, so that car was free for driving to school. Cain carelessly tossed his bag into the back of the four-seater vehicle, unlocking the car so Minato could claim the passenger seat.

Their father only laughed, shaking his head. To be young again. He idely scratched at the small of his back, heading to the door behind his younger son and watching the two go. They'd grown up so fast. He dug in a bit deeper to really give the old scar something to stop feeling itchy with. Then again ... his own youth hadn't been the best. Not where he'd grown up. But at least the rest of the clan--most of their nearby neighbors--had the chance to see better for their children. And that was all they'd really wanted ... though it had come at a very great cost. He waved at the two boys, smiling as Cain started up the car. At least Minato was alive to live the life his parents had wanted for him ... the werewolf hoped, anyway. There was always the worry that a vampire might not get everything he needed, living with werewolves. But it was better than living with humans, who wouldn't understand, or other vampires who would throw mud on his parent's noble lives.

{Lol. I see. Still...Cain...with his looks...being called Sugarcane by his parents...in front of fellow students... HI-larious! I'd love to see that!}

Minato chuckled, looking Cain's way. "Hey...speak for yourself! I can't digest raw meat, much less chew it..." His eye twitched, stomach clenching he remembered the first time he tried to each meat raw as a kid. But he pushed the memory aside at the look on Cain's face at the mention of a hunt. At times like this...he looks like a kid again...

He turned back to Frederick as he explained the reason behind the nicknames. "Ugh... Embarrassing indeed..." He hurried after his brother, out the door, also eager to escape further awkward memories.

At that moment, the mother, Katherine, came down the stairs, hearing the boys leaving the house. "Ah, they left early today. That's a change." She smiled, going over to her husband. "Did you chase them out the house using their nicknames again?" She knew how he liked to tease the boys.

Katherine, too, was glad that things turned out for the better. Back then, when she had first given birth to Cain, all she could think of...was give him a world where he could grow up safely in. She wasn't expecting it to appear in the form of a vampire couple. She especially was surprised to suddenly become the surrogate mother for their child as well. Certainly, their sacrifice was a steep price, so she hoped to pay it back by lovingly raise their child as her own. And yet...she couldn't shake her nervousness. They were werewolves, and Minato...was a vampire. One day, a day would come where he had to overcome a trail of being one on his own, with them unable to help. Frowning a bit, she secretly wished...that that day would hold off longer.

*

In the car, Minato watched the scenery fly by as Cain drove. How many times...have we ridden together like this? We're always...next to each other, but... Nowadays...I don't feel happy with this. There is...something I want...something I crave...I need. But what? He sighed and watched his brother drive. Not too long ago, they learned that he still needed practice. Since he was a vampire, he perceived things faster than the average human, and often, subconsciously, sped for it. So now, he let Cain drive them. But there was an upside to it...the wind. He could watch the material of his shirt blow against his skin or move in strange ways.

Minato...he was probably as strong as Cain, but his body showed to be more lean and flexible as a vampire. His brother...was more muscular...and...he liked that about him, that difference. Like that, not too many people compared them, despite being the brothers. "Hey...how do you think I would look with a tan? I mean...summer is behinds us already but...you know?"

((>:3 Good idea! Hehehe))

Frederick smiled at his wife--others would say mate--and chuckled at her guess. "You hit the nail on the head dear. I don't know why they don't like them; they have nicknames much better than the ones we had as children." He put an arm around Katherine, slowly shutting the door as the car drove out of sight. The male sighed lightly. "We can't protect him forever. Either of them." He could usually guess his mate's moods pretty well. They had lived together a long time. "Come; lets make ourselves some breakfast," he suggested, turning and heading towards the kitchen. "I'll cook some bacon if you make you special sunny-side-up omelet," he chimed, trying to lighten the mood.

*

Cain concentrated on the road, slowly moving through the suburbs until they came to the faster main road. And from there, bee-lined to the high school they both attended. It was a good time of year; the leaves just beginning to change into their fall tints. The air crisp and tasty to breath. The werewolf always drove with open windows--unless the day was muggy and the car exhaust stank up the roadways more than usual--so he could smell the air as it passed, bringing information.

Minato's question brought him out of his mental and smelling concentration though. "Hm?" he thought a moment, glancing at the vampire a moment before chuckling, eyes wandering back to the road. "Well, like a piece of toasted bread, first of all. Secondly; a beach bum. With your blue eyes and sandy orange hair ... the only other thing you'd need would be a surf board," he chuckled, sometimes as teasing as his father. "You look good the way you are though. Your skin is what has half of the female population stuffing valentines cards into your locker on Singles Awareness Day," Cain added, using Valentine's alternate name because both he and Minato were single bachelors. "Besides ... if you get too much sun, you might turn to dust," the werewolf added the token vampire myth, grinning with a laugh. "Mom would skin me for that."

The drive wasn't long. At this point, Cain was carefully circling the parking lot for an open space, snatching a god spot close to the front.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 1:00 pm

{Heh heh... After school it is then, but for now...}

Katherine leaned towards her mate as he put an arm around her. "True. Ours were definitely more embarrassing than that." She sighed as Frederick mentioned not being able to problem either of the children soon enough. "Let's just hope...we impart enough knowledge of them so we won't worry as much as we do now." Her eyes drifted to the kitchen that held so many memories as they raised those two together. "My special omelet for your bacon. Okay, we have a deal." She giggled and got to cooking.

*

Minato couldn't help laughing at Cain's opinion of having a tan. A beach bum, huh? Well...then again, it was silly to think of in the first place. And i certainly don't swim a lot... In that sense, tans only look good on you anyway!" He laughed lightly, falling silent at the mention of S.A. day. "Hm...true but...there's only ever one person I want to receive gifts from. If it's not them, it doesn't really thrill me..." He smirked at the mention of getting too much sun. "As long as I put only the suntan lotion everyday day, I should be fine."

Minato really enjoyed their morning drives. It allowed him to casually talk with his brother, spend time with him, and admire him without looking weird. So he had to admit, that when they made it to school and had to separate for classes...it made him a bit sad.

The male smiled, and got to work himself, frying side-by-side with his wife. Yes ... this was the good life. Or, at least, everything he wanted. He teasingly bumped hips with Katherine as they both prepared their ends of the mutual breakfast, and helped dish out the grub before they sat down together.

*

Cain sighed, rolling his eyes a moment, finishing puling them in. "You never have told me who this 'one person' is." And everyone knew Cain had asked the vampire enough. "You'll really have to introduce me to them one day, so I can decide whether they're good enough for you or not." He was protective of his little brother. Not in the physical way; Cain knew Minato could floor most humans twice his size, and a lot of werewolves too. What Cain sometimes worried about was how sensitive his younger brother was. He knew that his little brother wasn't stupid; but anyone could be hurt when it came to matters of the heart.

It was nice to know Minato would make sure not to turn into a pile of dust though. Cain turned off the car, taking the keys with him as he opened up his door and grabbed his and his brother's bags from the back before locking the vehicle up. Cain tossed Minato's bag to him, and turned to walk with the other into the school. He paused though, seeing Minato's sad face. "Hey; why the long face?" He walked to the vampire, putting an arm around the other's shoulders in a casual, familiar way.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 1:48 pm

Katherine bumped her husband back as they cooked together. It'd be nice if everything stayed peaceful like this. But lately, she could feel it, deep in her bones, that something was coming. But she pushed the depressing thought away so she could enjoy a nice breakfast with her mate. On the table, she sat down a huge omelet that she planned to share with him. "Here we go." She sat next to him, smiling.

*

Minato smirked. "I'm surprise you don't know them. (It's you, after all...) I see them everyday and we're always talking when we're together. (Because it's you...)" He shrugged. "But, if the day ever comes when they're ready, I'll introduce you two. (That'll be a laugh.)" He knew his older brother was protective of him. Always had been since they were kids. The other werewolf kids would often mess with him since he was human, and in elementary school...the boys often made fun of his pale complexion. But he learned to ignore it all, or prove himself.

Minato caught his bag as Cain threw it his way. The cause of his depression getting closer and closer. He blinked as Cain threw an arm around his shoulder. He could feel the other's warmth...and it felt really good. Watch it! He then smiled. "It's just the beginning of the school year thing. All eyes will be on me again. After so many years, it gets really tiring..."

Frederick had felt Katherine growing more and more upset with ... something. But he'd learned to trust his wife's instincts. He wouldn't bother her about it, or try to understand exactly how she felt what she did, but he did do his best to cheer her up. Katherine had always done the same for him, no matter how bad things had looked. He sat down and ate next to his wife, smiling back at her. As they finished, he reached out and gently held her hand. A silent reassurance.

*

Cain sighed at the other's knowing smirk. Whenever this subject came up, Minato just seemed to have that look on his face that was playful. With the information given, Cain still didn't have an idea as to who the vampire liked. "How are they going to be ready? I never see you trying to woo anyone," the werewolf pointed out, then blinked, looking at Mint shrewdly. "... I hope you aren't stuck on something one-sided without even saying a word to the other person. You'll never get anywhere doing that." He gave what he thought to be good advice. Though, he did chuckle at his brother's 'cause' for depression.

"We'll both be fine. We have all our usual buddies. Besides ..." The werewolf looked to the side as they both walked up, seeing a new face. That didn't happen too often in this school ... especially since the 'new face' looked to be in their grade level. And a smoker. Cain was sure the lengthy young man stepping out of an old, beat-up car with a cigarette in his mouth was new because of the bright orange head of hair; no one would miss that. "... Look at the new meat. He's sure to draw the eyes away from you if he's in your classes," the werewolf pointed out as they entered the building. Soon they would have to split up.

The newcomer was held out, a dean demanded he put the cancer stick away and that smoking wasn't allowed on school grounds, but the red head didn't seem too interested in he lecture.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:37 pm

Katherine kept a smile on her face as they ate together. The oncoming danger had no form yet, so she could not really think of any warnings to give. And this unnerve her the most. The silent reassurance given by her mate's hand, though, calmed her. Sighing, he leaned against him. "...a storm...it's coming."

*

Minato could tell Cain wouldn't be able to figure it out on the clues he had given . He did it that way on purpose. He was a bit surprised by Cain's words about something being one-sided. "Hah. I can't hide anything from you... I've tried wooing them, but they're...a bit dense. I'd make my efforts more obvious, but...I want them to notice naturally, rather than suddenly pressuring them and scaring them away instead..."

Minato then looked to the side as he, too, noticed the new face. "Huh. New meat indeed. If they are in my class, I'd appreciate it if they took some of the heat off of my shoulders." He frowned a bit. "But a smoker...it's kind of...unsettling."

Frederick let his wife lean agaisnt him, and gently rapped an arm around her. "We'll weather it," he replied softly. "We always have. Things will probably change, one way or another ... and our sons are strong. They will weather it as well, however they choose to. We have to let them live their lives."

*

Cain tilted his head curiously. "Dense? Pleeease don't tell me you're going after a bodybuilder ... or a football player. You deserve someone who won't just beat you at arm-wrestling, Minato." The werewolf sighed, but understood. "Alright, alright ... but this is senior year. You won't have much longer before people go out to colleges and are out getting jobs. If you don't get something through soon, there won't be any more chances." But, not wanting his bro to be too down, the werewolf hooked the vamp in a noogy before releasing Minto and hopping away. "Talk to you at lunch, Minato! I'm off to P.E.!" he said in farewell. "Tell the new guy smoking's bad for him if you see him in your classes!"

The 'new guy' walked in a little later, without smoking at least, and had a map and class schedule in his hands. Clearly ... looking for his classroom in the unfamiliar halls. He still stank of smoke though.
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2011 3:33 pm

Katherine nodded. "Yes. We'll weather it, no matter how big this storm is."

*

Minato huffed. "No and no! And who exactly has beaten me at arm-wrestling?" He raised an eyebrow, making a point. "Yeah...I know I don't have much longer..." He scowled as his brother gave him a noogy. "Arrgh! Cut that out!" Once he was released, he hurried to fix his image, but he smiled at Cain forms hurrying to the gym. "Yeah! I'll see you...later." He sighed, watching him disappear into the crowd. "Idiot...it's you I'm talking about." Sighing, he rubbing the back of his head.

As he headed to his class, he spotted the new guy. "Oh..." He casually walked up to the guy with a smile. "Hey!" He held back the wince at the smell of smoke. "Welcome to our school, new guy! The name's Minato! If you want, I'll tell you how to get to your classes!"

Cain jogged to the gym locker room, tossing his back pack into his newly-assigned locker and quickly getting dressed in the gym clothes he'd stuffed into his pack a week ago, heading out with the rest of his class to the track. Today was an easy day; getting talked at, mostly. But also running/walking around the track. Most people were walking, chatting and such. Cain, however, ran. He wanted to burn off some of his usually-high energy, grinning at the thought of getting to hunt soon. Too bad he wasn't allowed to surprise-tackle anyone. Last time he'd done that, he'd gotten detention for a week and been grounded for a month. For now, running around the track and sweating was good enough for him.

'New guy' looked at Minato as he was hailed, blinking. "... Thanks," he said, shuffling the papers in his hands around a bit embarrassedly. It was never cool to be lost in a school. "I'm Zuran. I'm looking for ..." he looked back down at his class list. "... room 207; Literature class." Zuran looked oblivious to his own, smokey smell. But, then again ... smokers never did seem to be able to smell themselves.
