This is a continuation of a roleplay from about three years ago. It was called Long Dark War, and was the first roleplay Alcide and I did together.

For the sake of nostalgia we've decided to revisit the old characters and see what new mischief they can get up to.

However, because it would be very hard to explain about seven hundred posts of roleplaying and a lot of character development, Alcide and I both ask that no one else in the guild contribute to the roleplay at this time. This is just the two of us venting with each other using our characters, really.

Lucian looked around his surrounding, he had found yet another cave for them to hide in. The smell of stalagmites and sulfur was not new to him, however he did often wonder about how much time had past. Time was never an issue when it came to Vampire, when you live forever and never age; why worry about time, but the lack of communication with anyone other then Skrap and Ailena made him wonder.

Lucian slid down against the cave wall and shut his eyes while in deep thought. How long could he keep up this charade with Ailena. At some point she would have to know the truth, would it matter after all the hell he had put her through. Lucian had to admit to himself that if it wasn't for the promise he had made, he would have no problem slitting her throat. Lucian respected the hell out of Kira or what she has preferred to be called now Ailena, but he didn't much like her, in fact the two of them seemed to do nothing but fight. He figured the sooner he could find Tristan, the sooner he could get Ailena out of his hair.Of course what would he do with Skrap; who has sense become the animal eater vampire peace maker of the group. Lucian blames Ailena for his softness. Although he definitely isn't a kid anymore and would be more then capable of taking care of himself after all this was over.

Lucian walked over to Skrap who had a book in his hand that he assumed Ailena had given him, were he was also seated in a corner of the cave.

"Don't get to comfortable kiddo, were only staying here a night, who knows how close they are to finding us, we got to keep moving."

Skrap absolutely hated being called kiddo and wasn't about to let Lucian get away with that. He put down the book and stared at him.

"I may look nine Lucian, but I'm not a kiddo anymore, and I would appreciate if you remembered that, I never get to comfortable where ever we go. I figured you already got us lost years ago, so why unpack all the way. According to this book about the lineage of supernatural beings, for every year that vampires think has passed, in reality 50 years have gone by. So who knows how long we have been away from civilization. For all you know whoever has been hunting us could have been long gone by now. It's not like we've seen any other vampires in who knows how long."

Lucian was taken a back by the tone Skrap had in his voice.

"You don't want to be treated as a boy, but yet you still think like one. A vampire has all eternity to hunt you down, what a few years matter to them, think it will slow them down. Maybe a human or Dark Elf, but not something that never ages and lives forever. Their is only one escape from a creature like that and that through death, either yours or theirs. The moment we stop running will be the moment we die. You understand this don't you?"

Skrap gave a half-hearten nod and returned to his book. It wasn't worse getting in a big fight with Lucian, hell that was Ailena's job anyway.

Lucian sat down near Skrap, but decided to not pursue the conversation any further. Skrap had been through a lot and Lucian knew it, and he was becoming better at know when the time and place was to push an issue.

Aliena listened to the both of them as she sat at her post outside the cave, watching for anyone who might stumble upon them. Not that she actually expected anyone to show up, but the last argument she had had with Lucian about it had lasted for a full week. In the end, though it had galled her to let him technically win, she liked the idea of being more than twenty feet away from Lucian even if only for a few hours of watch.

When Skrap didn't continue the argument Aliena sighed and shifted against the boulder she was perched on. It was a shame he disliked arguing with Lucian, maybe if he did the stubborn fool that was their self-appointed leader might actually do something that made more sense. Instead of having them wander from place to place for at least a couple centuries now, perhaps they might actually go into a human village and see what had changed, how society worked and see if there was any news of supernaturals to be found. She knew her two vampire companions had issues with time, but as a Dark Elf she knew better. A decent span of time had passed since their departure from her kind's home. Hell, it was bad enough she had spent most of it as an elf again and no longer a freak hybrid between elf and vampire. She could have gone home, back to Aiden, Menolly, Gracie, and her other friends and acquaintances back in the city.

But Lucian was always paranoid; convinced they would be killed the moment they stopped running. When she had tried to go home herself he had forcibly stopped her, and the two of them had nursed injuries for a few days after the ensuing fight. The only positive to come out of it she supposed is that Skrap learned that while Lucian was fine after reluctantly eating a few deer she had needed his help to stitch together a few of her injuries. This led to another fight over Lucian claiming she made Skrap too “soft” and “caring”, traits that would lead to his death later on in life, just because she had taught him how to stitch up a non-vampire’s wounds and given him a crash course in basic healing. Aliena shook her head and wondered when she had started to differentiate different memories by what argument she had been having with Lucian. She supposed it was as much her fault as his, but she couldn't help it if everything the damn vampire did riled her up. And besides, ever since they had made the pact when they were still bonded to not kill each other it wasn't if she could physically attack him like she used to when he pissed her off.

Though there were moments, when she did something radical enough... she smiled and her fingers stroked one of the daggers sheathed at her hip. Lucian couldn't bring himself to kill her, but if she goaded him enough he would fight with her. Those moments were even more fun than the usual verbal barbs the two threw at each other. Skrap always scolded the two of them afterwards however, and Aliena had to admit it was sometimes disconcerting to watch a vampire child—another crime of Lucians—scold her as if she were the child and he the adult. Though it was true that if Skrap were not around Aliena and Lucian would have killed each other long ago.

A twig snapped nearby and Aliena looked up, waiting for an animal to wander through. Sure enough, a rabbit popped out from under a bush after a moment. Shaken from her thoughts, she looked up at the sky and noted that the sun would set in less than an hour. It was obvious nothing was going on around them, the nearest human residence at least a few miles away in any direction. So, she hopped off of her boulder, brushing dirt off the leather armor she wore for practicality. Her first outfit had long since gone threadbare, but with frequent oiling and care this had lasted for a while now. Some cracks were beginning to appear however, and it might just be the stimulus she needs to get Lucian to go near a human town. Looking at the rabbit, she made a quick decision and slid a dagger quietly out of its sheath before flinging it at the bunny, pinning it by its chest to the forest floor. She walked over and yanked it out after making sure it was already dead. One of the many things her brief fling as a vampire had left her with was an unwillingness to go back to the largely vegetarian diet of her people.

She sliced it open and chewed on the liver while skinning the fur off and debating how to cook it. They didn’t have any cooking supplies as she was the only one among them who needed to eat. But she did have some random herbs and spices in her pack that she had collected over the years as they stumbled across meadows filled with the various floras. If she rubbed it in those, then made a fire pit... Aliena pinned it by its thigh to a tree so a fox wouldn't come and walk away with it while she was gone. She then ducked into the cave and paused after a few steps in, letting her eyesight adjust to the darkness. She continued for a minute until it opened up and she saw Lucian and Skrap near each other in one corner.

“You could at least feign productivity, you know.” Her disparaging voice echoed slightly around the cave, but she ignored it in favor of wrinkling her nose. “It’s not that hard to have an outdated map out and keep up the charade of knowing where we are.” She strode forward and opened her pack, which Skrap had moved near his. She saw why when she spotted one of her old books in his lap. Skrap seemed to have developed a love history as much as she did, something she did not mind fostering. But he had already read the scant few she had brought with her years ago, and was probably rereading this one now out of boredom. She resumed shoving things around in her pack, trying to find a dried bundle of sage that was only five years old.

Lucian rolled his eyes at the sound of Aliena's voice. He wondered if Tristan would still love her if he knew how big of a** she had become. If he ever found out that Tristan had been killed for the second time. He'd kill Ailena in her sleep. He frankly felt a little betrayed by Tristan and times and wondered if he had known that Dark Elves were responsible for the murder of there entire unit. He wouldn't of fallen in love with one, if he had know that, would he? Lucian didn't even know anymore. He visioned himself killing Ailena in her sleep and smiled, but it soon left him when he realized he still had to answer her question. Lucian had realized that arguing with Ailena was almost as bad as trying to ignore her completely.

"If I don't know were we are, their is good possibility that are enemy doesn't either. Besides..." Lucian rummaged through his own belonging and pulled out a map he had stolen from a Dark Elf family's house years ago. Lucian opened that map and walked over to Ailena.

"We are right here" He pointed to an area on the that he believed to be there location, off course he had no idea truthfully were the hell they were at, but he wasn't about to let her know that.

"And I don't much appreciate your attitude or the fact that your challenging my navigational skills. I don't hear you giving any good advice to were we should go. I have been around a lot longer then you have Kira.." he knew she hated that name, after she told everyone she wanted to be called by her real name Aliena, but it gave him a small satisfaction watching her get all fired up. "Where would you suggest we go, just walk into a small village and knock on there door and tell them we need a place to hide, and hope they don't try and kills. Or do you want to go back home and explain to them why you have been gone so long with two vampires. I'm sure that would go over great with your friend Gracie."

Lucian noticed the Herbs and the rabbit, he saw Aliena trying to gather them out of her pack, and figured she was planning on cooking it.

"If you start a fire, and add in those Herbs; not only will they know were here by the light, but they'll be able to smell us too." Lucian picked up her pack and threw it scattering all her belongings.

"I won't have your mortal annoyances get us killed, understand me?" Lucian stared at her with intense eyes. He didn't much like fighting with her anymore, it has gotten quite redundant; but it seemed like everything she did lately irritated him, and as much as cooking wasn't really a big deal. Lucian wasn't a big fan of fire, and didn't feel like having to deal with that night

Skrap put the book down he was reading, he already knew this wasn't gonna end will. He begin going over and picking Aliena's items up and placing them back in her pack, unfortunately Aliena herbs were unrecoverable. Skrap wasn't about to tell her that just yet though. That would only further aggravate the situation; instead he stood near them ready to try and break them up if things got ugly. A pretty routine thing now a days. Sometimes Aliena would start the fight, sometimes it was Lucian. He wondered if they secretly liked fighting each other and these arguments were completely on purpose. It wouldn't surprise him any. Of course neither one of the would admit it. Skrap wondered what it would be like to not be in a dysfunctional family. He snickered to himself when he realized he had referred Lucian and Aliena as his family. Skrap felt like he must be losing his mind a little.
