This is a question that has been nagging at me, and now seemed like a good time to bring it up with breedings happening soon. If this info is posted somewhere in the guild and I missed it I apologize.

What exactly are the standards for a test tribe and breeding?

And lifemating, when it comes down to it, since a majority of breedings seem reserved for lifemates. I've been hearing that it's polite to get the approval of the elder of the test tribe for the breeding, but there are implications that it isn't really necessary. However I am reluctant to believe this because I remember, vividly, that I was rebuked by Eva when I brought up that Elder approval might not be needed for Leo because his was not an official tribe. It's been awhile so I don't remember her exact words, but the gist of what she said was that even if it's not an official tribe the members still had to play by the rules that offical tribes went by.

I cannot remember where or when I heard this, but I also believe there was a rule put out that if your foxes were part of a test tribe then you could treat them as though they were tribeless when you entered for the amount of kits you had earned. Ex:

Modifox x Modifox

Tribeless and Test Tribe + 2 RPS = 6 BCRs
Test Tribe and Test Tribe + 2 RPs = 6 BCRs
Trest Tribe and Offical Tribe + 2 RPs and Elder Approval from Official Tribe = 4 BCRS

I cannot remember if this was a one-time thing or not, but I know it came up at some point.

So, the questions I have are these:

• Does a fox in a test tribe need Elder approval to lifemate?
• Does a fox in a test tribe need Elder approval to breed?
• If they do not need Elder approval to become lifemates, will they need it if the tribe becomes official?
• Does a fox in a test tribe count as tribeless for the purpose of breeding?

I told you that he didn't need his Elder's permission currently, since it was a test tribe, but that Rea might possibly require us to do an Elder permission RP if/when it became official, had Aegle stayed tribeless. Yes, it is considered polite and the standard to make sure the mating would be okay by a test tribe's Elder, and if it isn't (like by extreme amounts; for example, a Sanctimonia test tribe fox wanting to mate with some vicious bloodthirsty serial killer), it's considered polite to leave that test tribe and not create undue future drama for the test owner when the tribe becomes official and their Elder is saddled with that mess.

However, the test tribes are in all ways, lifemate wise, breeding wise, what have you, considered tribeless. You don't need Elder permission (although it'd be prudent to make sure that, if the tribe was official, you WOULD get it), the same way 2nd gens in tests are allowed to leave. It's just polite to doublecheck. :3

EDIT: I'll just fire off answers here succinctly:

• Does a fox in a test tribe need Elder approval to lifemate? No
• Does a fox in a test tribe need Elder approval to breed? No
• If they do not need Elder approval to become lifemates, will they need it if the tribe becomes official? This is possible. It may depend on the situation, or Rea may come here and say it applies to all of these cases. She's in charge of lifemating and breeding rules, and has final say here.
• Does a fox in a test tribe count as tribeless for the purpose of breeding? Yep!

I'm gonna say they'll still need the Elder permission if a test tribe becomes an official tribe, since either a) the tribe is lenient on out of tribe matings & so it won't be a big deal ("yeah, Elder Whoever says they can be mates") or b) out of tribe breedings are a big deal/discouraged. To use Gypsy (not a test tribe, I know :p ) as an example: out of tribe breedings are discouraged because they're traveling nearly all the time, so out-of-tribe mates/families would be seen very rarely (once a year or so), and that'd cause Issues (either the family or the tribe would get shortchanged, so you'd have someone not happy, no matter what) XD

So if your fox is in a test tribe that's not so big on outsiders, I'd suggest asking the owner of the Elder-to-be if the mating will be approved first, and deciding what you want to do from there :3
