This topic will explain the nuts and bolts (as I understand them) of the plotline and various profiles of BlazBlue. Each response in this topic will be a summary of relevant characters and plot points, so as to better help readers understand some of the more difficult or obscure aspects of my new fanfiction. If there are ANY questions, please PM me. PLEASE DO NOT POST WITHIN THE TOPIC . Thank you!

This first section of this topic will cover the details of the first installment of the series "BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger".

Background Story:100 years ago, the dreaded Black Beast began to ravage the world. Humans were at the bring of destruction when the Six Heroes, warriors who fought using ancient magic, appeared. They shared the knowledge of magic with mankind, who then combined it with science, giving birth to the weapons called "Ars Magus". Powerful weapons called "grimoires", which were instructional tomes on the use of Ars Magus, were manufactured. The Dark War, also called the First War of Magic, turned in mankind's favor and the Beast was defeated.

Victory came with great cost; fully half of the world's population had died during the war. A mysterious substance called seithr blanketed the world on the Beast's defeat, forcing humans to seek refuge in high-altitude locales. These cities became known as Hierarchical Cities.

An organization was created during this time. Collecting and sealing the grimoires was its primary function. The organization was named "Novus Orbis Librarium". Due to its control of the powerful grimoires and its secretive methods, many shortened the NOL's name to "Library" as a derisive nickname.

Ten years after the Dark War, another broke out, this time a civil war within the Hierarchical City of Ikaruga. This later became known as the Ikaruga Civil War, or the Second War of Magic. During this war, the capital city of Ikaruga was wiped completely off the face of the Earth by unknown means.

Four years later is when the story of BlazBlue begins. The NOL is the single largest organization in the world, and its military is powerful, creating a "government" that controls the world itself. However, a single man is travelling the world and destroying the many branches of the NOL singlehandedly. Rumors circulate about his possessing the powerful "Azure Grimoire", one of unparalleled strength. With the highest bounty on record for a single man, he is hunted as the SS-Class criminal, Ragna the Bloodedge, known also as the "Grim Reaper".

Year 2199 AD. The NOL has reported sightings of Ragna the Bloodedge near the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi. Vigilantes, men and women who hunt wanted criminals, flock to the city. Some come for the bounty, others for the Azure Grimoire said to be in Ragna's possession. This is where the story of BlazBlue begins...

Character Profile: Ragna the Bloodedge

"Hello! Mr. Grim Reaper is here! I've come to take all you guys to the Underworld!...'Scuse me! Pizza delivery here!"

With the highest bounty on record for a single man, the SS-Class criminal dubbed the "Grim Reaper". Rumored to possess a powerful artifact called the Azure Grimoire.

Ragna travels the world, seeking out and destroying the many banches of the NOL, though his reasons are unknown. Though he is surly and foul-tempered, Ragna also possesses a kind side that cause any who see it to question his criminal status.

His travels have brought him to the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi, and as a result, many vigilantes have also come to the city. What does Ragna seek to gain by destroying the NOL? What is the secret behind the Azure Grimoire said to be in his possession? The answers may lie in Kagutsuchi.

On arriving in Kagutsuchi, Ragna engaged and defeated a number of opponents before reaching the Library branch. Discovering no one inside, he quickly made his way to the basement level of the facility, locating the Cauldron in the deepest level. There, Ragna found Nu, a clone of his sister Saya, thirteenth of the line. Battling Nu and losing, Nu pierced both Ragna and herself with a blade, sending both falling into the Cauldron.

In doing so, the Black Beast is created by the fusing of their blood and sent back 100 years into the past, beginning a chain of events that lead, once more, into Ragna the Bloodedge arriving in Kagutsuchi. This "time loop" has seen 725 repititions. Only at the 726th is the cycle finally broken.

Character Profile: Jin Kisaragi

"Damned obstacles..."

A major in the NOL, and a member of the Praetorian Guard, the NOL's elite military unit.

Cold and sharp as a steel blade, Jin is dutiful and obedient to the orders given to him by his superiors. His participation and role in ending the Ikaruga Civil War earned him the title of "hero". His weapon is the Nox Nyctores katana, Mucro Algesco:Yukianesa, whose ice has the power to erode life.

However, something has happened that never has before. Jin has left his post and gone to the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi wiithout a word. Could it be he heard rumors of the Grim Reaper?

Jin is actually the younger brother of Ragna the Bloodedge. When the two were children, their sister, Saya, fell ill. Ragna then spent most of his time taking care of her in the church where the three lived. Jin resented this and grew jealous. Eventually, Jin was approached by a ghostly figure that told Jin a piece of the truth; Ragna was the Black Beast and it was Jin's destiny to destroy him. Guilt and brotherly love warred in Jin's mind, resulting in him seeming largely unstable throughout his life. Jin and the figure, Terumi, then burned down the church and kidnapped Saya after cutting off Ragna's right arm. Jin was later adopted into the influential Kisaragi family.

Jin later encountered Ragna in Kagutsuchi and followed him to the basement level. There, after being defeated by Nu, Ragna was taken into the Cauldron. Jin followed the two and was also brought 100 years into the past. There, he was greeted by the vampiress Rachel Alucard, who asked Jin if he was willing to become a "real hero." This led to the birth of Haku-men, one of the Six Heroes.

Character Profile: Haku-men

"I am the white void. I am the cold steel. I am the just sword. With blade in hand shall I reap the sins of this world and cleanse it in the fires of destruction. I am Haku-men! The end has come!"

One of the Six Heroes who fought and defeated the Black Beast 100 years ago. He always wears a mask that covers his entire face.

After defeating the Beast, Haku-men turned to humanity and bade the repent for ther sins. He was then sealed away in the Edge, the space between this world and the Boundary, for decades. Where most would have succembed to madness, Haku-men's will kept him sane. Ninety years later, he was found by Kokonoe, daughter of Jubei and Nine, of Sector Seven. She attempted to bring Haku-men back into this dimension by causality. Haku-men's strong ego, however, prevented it from being more than 20% effective.

Although friends with Jubei, he is not kind, referring to Jubei and Kokonoe as "Grimalkin". His power is fierce, enough so that only 20% is enough to overwhelm most fighters.

Haku-men is actually the future self of Jin Kisaragi, flung 100 years into the past along with Ragna and Nu at the time of their joining to form the Black Beast. Rachel Alucard approached Jin and asked him if he desired to be a "real hero". Jin eventually joined with the "Sankishin Susano'o" unit, a machine which houses his soul. While Jubei is considered the strongest organism in the world, he readily admits that Haku-men was "the real star of the show" against the Black Beast. Haku-men knows the origin of the Beast, hence his urging humans to "repent for their sins".

Due to his joining with the Sankishin unit, he has either lost or repressed most of his human memories.

Character Profile: Noel Vermillion

"You're under arrest!"

A lieutenant in the NOL, and a member of the Praetorian Guard, the NOL's top military unit.

Adopted by the once powerful Vermillion family, Noel attended the NOL's Military Academy to restore her family's honor. In the Academy, her synchronization rats with the Nox Nyctores were the highest of her class, and was soon placed under Jin Kisaragi's command. On Jin's desrtion, she is assigned to track him down, with her secondary oblective being to subdue Ragna the Bloodedge.

Despite her skill, she is rather airheaded. Whenever someone mentions her breasts (or lack thereof), she flies into a rage.
In battle, Noel uses the Nox Nyctores guns, Arcus Diablolos: Bolverk. She claims that "Bolverk does the fighting", though the meaning is unclear. She is heavily dependant on her weapons, to the point of breaking down if they are removed.

Noel was found by the Vermillion family at the end of the Ikaruga War with no memories prior to her awakening. She is, in fact, a clone of Saya, twelfth of the line, and is also the Eye, the inheritor of the true Azure. When Ragna and Nu-13 are falling into Kagtsuchi's Cauldron, she grabs Ragna's hand, preventing his fall and causing Nu-13 to fall alone, presumably killing her and ending the time loop.

Character Profile: Rachel Alucard

"Valkenhyn, I require tea."

The current head of the Alucard family of vampires.

Rachel is a well-brought up lady, and acts as such, displaying a cold and somewhat snobbish attitude towards all but her butler, Valkenhyn. Her familiars, Nago (a shapeshifting black cat) and Gii (a large red bat), are constantly by her side, and she is often seen punishing Gii for various minor offences.

Rachel has seen all 725 repitions of the time loop, and as such has all knowledge of the events leading to the world's destruction. It is possible for her to know this as she lives in a seperate dimension outside the time loop. Simply put, while there is a Jin and a Ragna for each time line, there is only one Rachel across all time lines. As the time loop begins again, Rachel arrives at its beginning with all knowledge of the previous cycles, approaching Jin and once more setting the events into motion.

Rachel, as an observer, is limited with what she is allowed to interfere with in the time loop, though it is unknown if these limits are due to her position or if they are self-imposed. She and Terumi, the mastermind behind the time loop, have been at opposing positions; while Terumi wishes to achieve the true Azure, Rachel wishes and end to the cycle. At the firing of the Nox Nyctores Gigant: Take-Mikazuchi (which, when fired upon Kagutsuchi, destroys the world and ends the current cycle), Rachel activates the absolute defence of the Tsukuyomi unit, preventing Kagutsuchi's destruction at the 726th cycle.

Character Profile: Bang Shishigami

"The vigilante of love and justice! Bang Shishigami!"

A ninja from Ikaruga.

Bang was born and raised in Ikaruga and took part in the civil war that occured. As a ninja, he is quite skilled, though he is also prone to showmanship. Bang is hot-headed and often makes rash assumptions. He is respected and adored by his men, and his word is law amog them. Together, Bang and his men live in Kagutsuchi's Ronin-gai. Bang is smitten with Litchi Faye-Ling, Orient Town's resident doctor, though his attempts at confession more often than not end in failure.

Making a living as a "vigilante of love and justice", Bang hears word of the arrival of he legendary criminal, Ragna the Bloodedge. Vowing to bring Ragna to justice and use the reward to rebuild Ikaruga, Bang sets out.

Bang is somewhat overzealous in his actions, making many regard him as a fool. On the reverse, he is also one of very few that has earned the respect of Haku-men, for his devotion to justice and his recognition of his own limits.

Character Profile: Litchi Faye-Ling

"I'll save him, no matter what."

A doctor with a mission.

As Orient Town's resident doctor, Litchi is much loved by its citizens, and is friendly with the Kaka clan living on Kagutsuchi's lower levels, often teaching the kittens there. She came to Kagutsuchi two years ago to search for a certain person. Having located him near the Kaka clan, she has asked the village Elder to help her find this person. This person is Arakune, a scientist who gave up his body for knowledge from the Boundary, the realm of the dead. Litchi was once a scientist for the myterious Sector Seven. Litchi has sworn to save Arakune from his circumstances, despite evidence and testimony that he is beyond saving.

She is often seen with Taokaka, a warrior of the Kaka clan, who refers to Litchi as "Boobie Lady". Her panda, which keeps her hair up, is actually a living being.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:57 pm

Character Profile: Taokaka

"Oh! Do you know Ragnya?"

A warrior of the feline Kaka clan.

Taokaka (or Tao for short) is a being made from the cells of the world's strongest being, Jubei, one of the Six Heroes, just like the rest of the Kaka clan. Because of this, Tao is a naturally strong fighter. On the other end of the scale, Tao is extremely forgetful, often taking a few steps and immediately forgetting what she was just told. She also speaks with a strange feline tic, pronouncing Ragna's name as "Rawrgna" or "Ragnya" among other things.

The Kaka clan can withstand extreme concentrations of seithr, which would be fatal for other species. The clan never exceeds a capacity of 100, and, according to Litchi, can asexually reproduce should the need arise.

Tao is often sleeping in the sun. She often forgets people's names, and comes up with nicknames for them instead; for instance, Tao calls Litchi "Boobie Lady" and Ragna "good guy". Arakune is referred to as "Black Squiggly".

Character Profile: Arakune

"Azure..."

Arakune was once human, but research into the Boundary (the realm of the dead) corrupted him and he became wholly consumed by his desire to find the Azure. Arakune even lost his human body, becoming nothing more than a black, amorphous being. Having lost his face, Arakune made a mask to replace it. His speech is also changed, to the point where he is only understood in bits and pieces.

His body teems with hundreds of insects and he now resides in Kagutsuchi's lowets levels, preying on and consuming the Kaka clan and any humans foolish enought to travel there.

Character Profile: Carl Clover

"Don't worry sis, I'll turn you back."

A child prodigy, Carl is already an accomplished vigilante. He travels with his ars magus, the Nox Nyctores Deus Machina: Nirvana. He refers to Nirvana as "Sis" and always turns to her before making a decision, making him utterly dependant on Nirvana. Carl seems to be the only one able to understand Nirvana.

Nirvana, as a Nox Nyctores, affects her wielder's mental state. In Carl's case, his desire to fight is heightened, and he sometimes takes to battle with near-sadistic glee. While others seem too believe that Nirvana is manipulating Carl, is that really the case?

Character Profile: Iron Tager

"Commencing mission."

A cyborg soldier.

Found and revived after the Ikaruga War, Tager owes his mechanical body to Kokonoe, daughter of Jubei and scientist of Secor Seven. His massive frame and red skin have earned him the nickname "Red Devil". Despite his outward appearance, Tager has an astronomical IQ. Kokonoe often sends Tager on missions, and does not treat him kindly.

Tager is a loyal soldier and follows Kokonoe's orders to the letter. He has absolute faith in Kokonoe. His body houses a "causality phenomenon generator", a weapon not nlike the Nox Nyctores.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 05, 2011 3:59 pm

Character Profile: Nu-13

"Ah, it's Ragna!"

A cyborg born from cloning.

Nu-13 is, as her name suggests, the thirteenth clone. She is often cold and mechanical in her interactions with others. When she comes into contact with Ragna, however, she becomes bubbly and sexual, as she uses many double entendres in her conversations with him. Nu uses the "Murakumo Unit" in combat, an all-covering armor with eight blades that float around her. In no timeline is she truly defeated.

When she and Ragna fall into the Cauldron, the two fuse to become the Black Beast, thus restarting the time loop.
