I’d like to bring up something that’s been bothering me for a couple months now but has only recently become a concern: Modifications.

I’ve been here for over a year now and I’ve had foxes for about that long as well, yet I’ve only seen Shi open mods once. Obviously it must have been an issue because you held a contest and ended up tacking modifier onto Spazzy’s title as well, but Spazzy has only opened mods up once herself. It irks a tad because Shi’s official job was modifier, but we aren’t getting modifications done. I’m not the only one who feels a bit miffed over this, especially because Shi is still getting staff customs when none of us feel like she’s really doing her job.

If I may, these are Modifoxes.

I realize there could be a lot of reasons for this, like health issues, life, and I recently saw her tablet was broken. That’s fine, crap happens. But if all these things are getting in the way, why did you hire her as a full-time colorist? You said in the announcement, and I quote, “Her duties will be primarily mods and events.” Well mods was what she was supposed to be doing before, and as a staff member I’m sure she could have chipped in a fox or two for an event if she wanted.

Let me sum up my main issue here. I am hurting for mods. I don’t feel like the modifier was fully up to her job before, and now you’re tacking on more duties as a colorist when she doesn’t even seem to be keeping up with the original reason she was hired. This is unfair to everyone who wants more modifications, and it’s unfair to the colorists because what you described sounds more like a part-time colorist and I can’t see this taking much of any kind of burden off them.

This is not meant to stir up drama or cause ill-will. This is just a concern I have over something that seems monumentally unfair in my eyes, and something I feel like has to be addressed before it does turn into drama.

Actually, both Shi and Spazzy plan to take on modification slots some time this month.

We're aware of the previous issues with Shi not being around, and that it wouldn't make people happy when we hired her. But Shi has assured us she'll have more time, and we're making sure modifications are still her priority. I asked her personally if she reasonably thought she could handle all this in the coming months, and she told me yes, and I'm going to take her word for it. If things slow down for her again, well we'll bump her back down to modifications only. We will be enforcing this as well; it's my hope that within the next month, staff can begin to plan a rotation of how often things must occur barring anything significant. If it eases your mind at all, I will personally see to it that mods come back into regular rotation.

The bottom line is this: There's a lot more than just modifications to the shop. People want to build up their hoardes--which is obviously fine by me, I currently have the biggest one--and that takes people. We had three colorists (since Nati is on indefinite hiatus), who will all be in college this semester, and one of them works and has limited internet access. So we opened hiring, and agreed on piano and Shi at the end. We honestly debated hiring Shi for these very same concerns you're expressing, but piano understandably didn't want to fully commit to the shop when she isn't sure she'll really have time for us. So we considered: If we only hired piano, and she had to drop out on us, we would either have to spend another month and a half on hiring and people would have to enter all over again, or we could take a gamble and hire Shi as well, because without Shi, if we lost piano, the simple fact is that the shop in general would slow down. Not just mods, everything, because all of staff (but Shi) will be in college in less than a month and three colorists weren't going to be able to supply typical demand, not to mention finish the event we've got coming up. People can argue whether mods or fox output are more important all day long, but as an entire staff we had to look at the bigger picture, and that bigger picture needed more firepower.

You say this won't take any kind of burden off of our other colorists, but it really does: Our events range are 30+ foxes usually. A lot of those are edited--look at Yen Sid if you want from the last event, or the fairies, or the grams and Advent foxes etc. from the Christmas event. These colorists not only have to color all those event foxes in the usually two month time span between when we finalize a theme and when an event opens, but they have to handle customs/bribes, the occasional game, breedings, and most importantly their actual lives. Assigning Shi to event foxes solely (besides modifcations) not only limits her non-modification time (we don't color event foxes all year around, so it's not like she's 100% committed to coloring over mods at all, and there will be many months when she has no events to do and only mods to open), but takes away a lot of that having to edit from other colorists, who now have the option to step back from events to a degree and look at other things. It's the exact same reason we assigned piano to handle breedings and customs/bribes if she stays on; it might sound 'part time' like Shi's job, but it will hopefully relieve demand from our other colorists in those departments so they can take a very well-deserved break from time to time, or just do more things they want to do.

Again, I know people are upset about mods. I've been wanting them too--and Shi hasn't received a staff custom that I know of since Tristan, who she gained through credits and by using all of the gold she earned from her last mod rounds, just for the record. With Shi promising to be back to full status later this month after returning from vacation, we're going to try and reimplement a schedule of how often mods must open. But please, give Shi and Spazzy a chance before you decide we made a mistake in our choices.

In Jinx's defense, I don't think she was necessarily stating she wouldn't give either of the two a chance. A lot of the customers are just worried. That's all. We are open to change, however a little worried about the new colorists and how things will be run. We love this shop, and I can speak for the others because we have been speaking together recently. A lot of us worry. For some, Modifoxes is a escape from stress from the non-internet world, for others its just a fun little place to spend time with new people before they go to work or school. Either way, most of us, if not all, love this shop.

Piano is a stranger. I know Jinx did that mention this, but I will while we are on the topic of hiring. This worries some of us mostly because we've never seen her. Honestly, I don't lie. I was angry she was hired. But, I had a day to think about it and I realized, yes she may be a stranger, but not giving her a chance is just cruel. The reason I was so angry was mostly because she was a stranger. I love Modifoxes, as we all know from my increasing horde and tendency to take up a lot of guilt space with constant role-plays. I was worried. However I'm open to trying a new person and seeing if they commit to Modifoxes.

With Shi, we are worried because even though she is a great modifier, those great mods she does hasn't been seen much. So, now that she is a colorist it seems a little nerve wracking to us. I'm not saying we are attacking Shi and want her out, and neither for Piano. We just worry, and I believe Jinx was stating that.

I agree to giving everyone a chance. I'm open for it. I just want the staff to know how we feel, and that this isn't a direct attack on the staff. I really hope things work out, it'd be nice~ Maybe some of us aren't as open to this change, but I suppose I can give it a shot. I mean, everyone starts out new, right? Just, I wanted to both help Jinx out and let the staff know that I am supportive of trying things out, though have my concerns.

If this is over the line, PM me and talk about it? Or Skype. You guys know where to find me. =3

I know Jinx wasn't attacking anybody. If I came off that way, I apologize--I had a cavity filled today and it's made me a touch cranky xD. But that wasn't just directed at Jinx; I wanted to explain publically to everybody our reasoning behind our hiring decision, because we knew people weren't going to like it, and I wanted to get it out now that we had very legitimate reasons for what we did.

Also, just a point: At one time, we were all strangers to the shop. Some of us were fortunate and came in at the beginning and had little trouble getting into it, but I know some of us had to fight tooth and nail to get in. And honestly, that makes me upset. The shop was always supposed to be welcoming and friendly to anyone who came in, and to be upset about anyone coming in for being a stranger isn't fair. Modifoxes isn't meant to be a clique. I reallyreally hope everyone will seriously give piano a chance, because I've talked to her over PMs over the course of hiring and she's very nice, and she'll be a good member of the family if everyone will let her be. She worked hard on her entries, and she earned her spot as a colorist--I think we should all welcome her. Not as a staff member (because, to be frank, I am sorely tired of this 'staff' and 'customer' delineation, we're all regulars to me), but as a new member of the shop and of our little B/C family. :3

Mmmmm, it's not that she is really new, per say. For me, I've been here since 08, it was easy to slip in so I don't really know how it feels to struggle, so perhaps I am not the best to say this. However, we wished she had come to meet us. Oh, I know everyone is new! Being new is a little nerve wracking because everyone is close and knows each other. However, she was applying to be a colorist, and being a staff member is also being a friend as well. Staff are our friends, and we get along with them and try and work together. Yes, perhaps the line between us is a little to strong for some, but that is the truth. We go to the staff for help, advice, foxes, and sometimes guidance. We'd like to do that with someone we know and trust! Being new is absolutely fine, but we wish she had come into the main thread to talk to us during the time of the hiring thread, so we could get to know her a little.

We are up for change and new faces, because no offense but sometimes we need new blood to scatter up the routine! It just would have been really relaxing to have met Piano during the time she was applying, just to pop into the thread and say hello. She was in the hiring thread and spoke to mainly the staff that were judging, and the other people applying, so while those people got to know her and bond with her the people left behind didn't.

I'm not sure if I am sounding really coherent here. I'm trying. Some of us just really wish she had come over to say hello to us! Become friendly. I know, some people were in the hiring thread, but most of the people there were the applicants. I am completely up for giving her a chance, maybe she'd be a great addition! I just feel, and so do some others, that we really would have liked to meet her in the normal setting, just to get to know her for the short month and some that the hiring was happening.

Personally, setting the we aside, I feel like Piano can be given a chance. I know if I was her I'd feel nervous and hurt if everyone judged me for being new. I just would have personally loved to meet her during the time she was applying.

Also, some people were concerned about Shi's January mods, and that they were not done? I do not remember this, though I do know that it is a cause of concern that maybe they would be forgotten.

Again, I have Skype! And, I'm really trying very hard to make this sound conversational and helpful, and not rude or demanding. Feel free to contact me. =3

I would like to say what i think. But before I do I want it known that I am so not good at using the right wordage so if something seems like an attack tell me and i'll again cause this is in no way shape or form an attack on anyone but I do know i have trouble explaining myself some times.

1. I know shi will be a fine colorist and can do it. have no doubt and I know life gets in the way its very mean yes it is. But I am worried about mods getting done and our poor shi getting burnt out from doing mods, events, coloring. it wouldnt be good. Yes I have read that you all talked and what not. Am happy to know that you guys will have shi just do mods if it all becomes to much. Because i was worried that it would be to much and mods havent been done in awhile and I know i'm needing mods. Mostly tribe things and a few personal things and would like these to get done. I also worry that with the longer mods are closed that when it does reopen it will be over filled with mod request from everyone saving this or that idea while it was close and that could be a problem. I trust the staff even though I worry a lot i'll admit i'm a worrier yep thats me.

2. this concerns spazzy. I knw she will do what she needs to get done for coloring and mods but i also know she will over load her self. I worry this will happen again cause she does do it alot sometimes. (I went to school with her I know). so i was wondering if maybe I could help orginzed things for staff. I know thats normally like rea's job but like it has been stated everyone is starting college soon. I'm in college now and am doing online classes so i could easily organize things and this will help me personal to become personal organized. If i do it for something I love than i'll end up doing it for something that i need to do that i dont love.

3. this concerns Piano. I know she is new we all were and i'm fine with it. Though I do wish she would have socialized more with the us. Cause i to noticed her mostly talking to staff which is fine but i wished she would have talked to the rest of us to. I love meeting new ppl and would have loved to talk to her but didnt want to press and try to talk to her while she was talking to staff cause i didnt want to impose on anyone. I remember when shop first started and I had a hard time to at first. Only person I knew was Spazzy cause we went to school together so i guess you could say clinged to her. Poor girl was probably thinking lisa go away i see you every day at school and now you online with me girl make new friends on her. Which I started to do it just took time. I am very open to giving ppl chances and new starts. And to show this when she opens breedings I'm going to submit ShaXShinya into her grounds to show I am putting trust into her and give her a chance. And for those of you who dont know (which I doubt you dont know) I have been dying for Shai xShinya kids and this is a big leap of faith sort of speak. Yus also is agreeing to put Shai x Shinya in. We talked about this and agreed.

*shakes head* Nah, I didn't get any aggression out of Eva's answer. And to be fair I probably sounded a tad aggressive in my first post.

Actually I feel much better for posting this, like it was just a weight I wanted to get off me and I'm glad I did. Again, not looking to start drama with it.

Me, personally, while I do love to expand the hoard I'd also love to deck out my current hoard, hence why lack of mods was more my issue here. I'm just glad to know that you and Shi have talked about this and gotten plans and priorities into place. And I really do hope it works out for her, Shi can make some amazing stuff!

I'd like to apologize a bit for the staff custom comment though, it felt like an uncalled for hit beneath the belt. I wasn't trying to imply anything so much as I let personal view get in the way of an objective one, and I feel bad about that.

Thank you for answering my concerns, Eva, it did help me to understand.

Wait wait, did I accidentally imply Eva was being hostile? Woah! Not my meaning at all! I was saying in Jinx's defense because I know a lot of us feel somewhat similar, and I didn't feel like only Jinx should be the one to say things. I felt like, since we have this already out in the open, just to get everything out at once.

I'm sorry. I honestly did not mean to imply hostility.

Anytime, Jinx. I'm actually glad you asked, I wanted an opportunity to explain things since we were afraid people would be upset, and this was a good civil chance to do so. :3 And we all say things we don't mean sometimes, it's fine.

On to the other non-Shi things:

One, I'd like to ask that we drop the piano discussion, guys. This thread was about Jinx's concerns over modifications, not piano. If you're still concerned, you are MORE than welcome to PM me, I have no problems answering questions and soothing nerves. The fact is piano is/was busy, but I know she came into the the main thread a bit a couple of days ago. She's on vacation until the 6th, so don't expect to see her before her breedings open. But I promise that when she's around you'll get to know her as well.

As for organization: While I really aprpeciate the offer Lisa, and I think it's sweet that you want to keep an eye on Spazzy for her own sake, I have organziation covered. Like I told Jinx, I'm hoping to have a schedule for everyone to abide by up soon enough. As for Spazzy, I trust her to tell me when enough is enough; I know she buries herself in work, and I too have warned her to slow down before, but she knows her limits, and she'll keep to them. I don't think you have to worry about her.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:57 pm

Hmmm...I'm not going to say much, seeing as how I can be a right little spitfire sometimes, and that will make things much worse. All I will say is that I'm not happy either, for a number of reasons not listed here, but I will see how things unfold this month and next month as well. By September the 'ooh, shiny new toy!' stage will have worn off and then we'll see how they're coping.

Well, PM me if you want to Nec. We can't fix things if we don't know what they are.

Weeeelp, since I was brought into this: Like Eva said, it's sweet of you to offer Lisa, but I don't really need someone else keeping an eye on me. I've got a to-do list - three to-do lists, actually - to keep track of things and I know my limits. Plus the other staffers keep me on track just fine. There's no need to worry about me.

Also, we went to middle school together. The workload wasn't that bad. XD

Again, thanks for the offer, but I'm gonna have to politely decline. c':
