He looked up to Merlin, seeing him as a fatherly figure, since his own parents were killed long before he could remember. Before he was allowed to use magic, Roran went through years of intense study, which included memorizing various spell books, practicing the art of meditation, and mastering patience and respect. However, when Roran was only 13, Merlin was murdered by a rival race in an epic battle for control of the castle, unfortunately Merlin lost, leaving the castle in the hands of evil. Roran, too, fought in the battle for the castle attempting to protect the Seraphic Courtyard, Merlin’s favorite spot due to its intense spiritual aura. However the forces of evil prevailed, nearly killing Roran. For a short period of time, the evil races took control of the castle before the the good races could send reinforcements. Before the castle was back in good’s hands, Roran fled into the wilderness, seeking refuge from what he thought was the end for him. The young mage began to travel the world witnessing the beauty of the Radiant Meadow to the horrors of the Perilous Impasse. Through his travels, he has practiced the magic Merlin began teaching him. Though he hasn’t mastered magic, and still has a long way to go, Roran is determined to put an end to this madness and help restore peace into the war-stricken world.
