The other night, while I was tossing and turning in bed, failing to fall asleep because it's so damn hot, I had a few thoughts cross my mind.

For some reason, my mind went to the memories I have of a few of my friends I made on Gaia that have become inactive. They're still members, they haven't quit, and they still log on every once in a blue moon, but I rarely get to talk to them, partly because I'm not always on they same times they come online, but mostly because their lives offline have gotten busier and they just don't have time for Gaia anymore.

Which leads me to thinking, am I growing out of Gaia too? I mean, think about it, when was the last time I came to a guild meetup or participated in any in depth discussion requiring a response more than 1 or 2 sentences?

And I also started thinking more about my friends themselves. There was a time when I foolishly began blaming myself for our current lack of communication; thinking that if only I had talked to them more, been more funny and charismatic, less pushy and more generous in my gift-giving then maybe I would still keeping in contact with them.... But what if I'm partly right? These are some pretty cool guys, and I feel bad knowing that I could have done more to...I don't know...keep the friendship from going to waste?

Anyone remember Draconius? Or RyanJakobi? Or even AlexDitto? I wish I could see them online at the same time as me, and drop them a line to say what's up... And last time I heard, Alex was supposed to be a NASA internship! What's he doing now that the space shuttle program has ended? Just little things I'm curious about, and I don't want to seem like I'm ignoring them, more than I already have, that is... And it's not just with those guys, I sometimes wonder about how all my friends I used to chill with on Gaia have been doing. Am I being too nosey or too curious? Or all this effort 'too little, too late'? I don't even know anymore...

So tell me, anyone else have these thoughts wander through their minds from time to time about their Gaian friends?

I sometimes feel that way too, but more with the guild it seems. Lately it seems that there's little activity in the GCDP and that I drifted too far from it to even know what's going on with everyone anymore. The meet-ups for me are all in vain for I haven't a clue if the announcement problem is fixed or not. I even want to participate on the guild's anniversary day and use it as an opportunity to catch up with how everyone's doing, but for what's going to happen on that day is still up in the air (at least that's the way I see it)...

I know what you mean Mythey. sweatdrop

Even that skype chat is getting thinner and thinner simply because it's difficult to maintain that momentum. When it's going it's so much fun. But unfortunately things die down, slow down and eventually stop. It happens in real life as well sadly.

It's understandable since you as you said with Alex in a Nasa Internship his focus has changed--and as it should have. He has to juggle a lot and chose to reset his priorities.

It's really sad to see people go and I hope that if anything it shows that offsite contact (skype, email etc) is so important if only to keep in contact with the friends you've made along the way.

Hi Mizu! How could I ever forget you? I saw all this Professor Layton art in the Artist's Alley at Anime Expo two weeks ago, and all I kept thinking was, "Mizu would love this!"

We need to figure out a way to get guild activity going again. Because once we get things moving, it gets easier because we have that momentum and excitement to build upon... but getting started that's the hardest part! gonk

My one half-assed attempt was with that little 5th generation pokemon cosplay contest, and that was cool for a week... But I loved the little burst of activity that we saw in the guild with that! I want to have that feeling again... Even if it means spending all my gold to buy prizes to fund contests, I'll do it! Having the most toys isn't a priority to me anymore as much as making friends and keeping people happy is.

Oh hey! I've missed you too, why don't I make the effort to keep in contact more often? Grr! My laziness frustrates me to no end.

And as with real life, my priorities on Gaia have changed too. I worry less about acquiring items and amassing gold, and have started caring more for my friends I've made, but if only my chronic laziness would stop weighing me down! That combined with my terrible habit of getting quickly bored and easily distracted by shiny new things... I'm looking at YOU, Equestria Daily...

Turning a Gaia friend into a real friend means committing to extending your own willingness for friendship.

I found a literal best, best friend here. A year and a half later, I stayed at his house for 11 days and we got tattoos together. Now two years later, I'm preparing to move into the same town as him---3000 miles away from where I am now.

It all started with a chance meeting in a forum, but both of us made the conscious effort to know one another. We went from forum to guild to in character to out, to PMs, to Skype, to Facebook, to txting and then we met face to face. It was amazing to hang out.

My other friends here? If they're willing, I add them on facebook, gather their skypes and various other site usernames. It's no one's fault if you completely loose touch, but it's always something you may end up regretting.
Sometimes, however, it's for the best. Great friends here are few and far between. If they're willing to drop you, chances are that they didn't value that friendship too much anyhow.

Uguu. 8D Oh how much I would have loved to see Professor Layton artwork at Anime Expo. But alas, I always miss out for I live in a city that is too mainstream for large conventions. *watches in horror as hipster glasses consumes my hometown*

I really miss the Clue games we all played in Virtual Hollywood (even though it got off track and people kept leaving). It was really fun when everyone tried to figure out who the murderer was and changed their avatars to play their part.

Oh, a contest? How fun! I wish I could have participated last time. If we were to engage into another one, what would be the theme? 8D

Speaking of going through phases of activity on Gaia, I made a thread about it in the GCD. Take a look, if you feel so inclined~

I make friends on here, but I've been burned by internet things before, so I still keep everyone a little bit at arms length... maybe with a bit of a bent elbow.

I do care about you all, but I couldn't imagine hanging out with anyone from Gaia irl. If I'm somewhat boring on here, I'm incredibly boring irl. XD

Even my rl friends say I'm one of those enigmas wrapped in bacon or whatever that phrase is.

mmmm bacon.
