I was reading some Shakespeare and became inspired. I wanted to write a sonnet in iambic pentameter. I don't think I achieved the iambic part of the task, but there are ten beats in each line and it is a sonnet! Read, enjoy, comment.
Anatomy of a Poem
A poem’s heart surges quite strong and true,
Its mind fills with words meant for one and all,
The messages run through its blood so blue,
And bones of structure flourish wide and tall.
The flesh cloaked in metaphors hides values
Within its nerves of vivid emotions,
And muscular rhythms support and choose
The way by which it presents its notions.
But a poem’s body is nothing yet
Without its soul to complete it and give
To those who desire to meet and forget
The sensations that they still have to live.
A writer bestows the soul to each word
Giving the work life and leaving us stirred.
