Did you choose your character's names just because you liked them, or there any reason?

For Elizabeth/Anastasia, I chose her name(s) because "Ellie" means "light". I chose Anastasia to be her true name because it means "resurrection", so her name in full means "resurrected skeleton", or her adoptive and real names mean "resurrected light". Fitting because Aqua is her ancestor.

For her brothers, Vincent and Vladimur, I named Vincent after Vincent van Gogh and Vladimur after Vladimir Shukhov, the Russian engineer who invented thermal cracking.

Also for Elizabeth, I discovered that in the original Alice in Wonderland, Alice had an older sister named Elizabeth. I just thought I'd share that.

Too many of my characters have meaningful names. orz

Kei - Some of the possible characters that can be used to write Kei in Japanese are; "to rejoice; be happy", "excellent; good; skilled", "disclose; open", "awe; respect; honor". And in Hawaiian it means one's pride and glory. c:

Xenos - It means 'one who is not familiar' aka stranger in Greek, which matches Xenia's name who has a similiar meaning. c:

Brian (Rixban's original name) - It means noble, strong and virtuous which I think fits him pretty well. <3

Reina (Inexra's original name) - Means queen in Spanish, as she was going to be used in war much like the queen in Chess.

Calix - In Greece, Calix means 'very handsome', I chose it as his name cause I thought it described his 'inner beauty' and it was just plain ironic as he thinks he's pretty much useless and doesn't think that he's good looking at all. xD

(I think that's all my chars. cool )

I feel like a shortstop
Along third base
I may just help you but I still don't like your face

Well, as we all know Kai means 'keeper of the keys' in Welsh. It's kind of impossible not to know that by now.

And as Ji said, Xenia is 'guest' or 'stranger' in Greek. I love how Xenos and Xenia have couple-y names but they're not a couple whee

Xanthe is a name on it's own, but it's completely unrelated. I just chose it because it was pretty and girly whee And Neath (Xanthe's original name) is a place in Wales, so that's unrelated too...

But believe me, I'm not hostile I just
Want to hear you laugh
When I'm sarcastic like that
But that just makes me a dumb human

This seems like the most appropriate place to post this...

DAMN YOU SUBCONSCIOUS! I was reminded today- after 3-5 years of forgetting that a character in a book series I really liked was called Kai. And... ah... he's a dragon. And a purple one at that. Maybe I'll add in a tiny reference. If anyone for any reason asks Kai what his first word was then I can do it. Something like "Mum and dad were trying to train me me up before I could walk and they had these stupid tiny metal swords that they clanked together in front of me. So, my first word was 'Ping' because of those damn things!"
