Throughout the mountain range, there are several volcanos. Some sit serenely, like they were any other mountain. Some are volatile and very active. But Mt. Thornan is perhaps the largest both in girth and height. Perhaps it is appropriate that this is where you can find the village of the enormous Shadowmasters.

Now they did not merely pick this location because of the size of the mountain, but its activity. Mt. Thornan spews a small but continuous stream of ashy smoke where darkens the sky over Ulgard. This allows the giant dark knights to wonder freely without the discomfort of the blazing sun.

Despite being high in the mountains, the road to Ulgard is quite easy to navigate as Shadowmasters are not particularly agile or nimble. So anyone could walk right up the mountain to the village. But pity the one who angers a Shadowmaster. Their town needs no walls or cloaking abilities. The very ideal of a town full of Shadowmasters should be a deterent for anyone.

When the hope burns out
And the last cinder dies.
The world's left with only doubts
Where all you hear are endless lies.

Black. Shadows. Ash and Smoke. When one thinks of home, they think of happy, sunlight, peace and quiet. However, when Shadowmasters think of home, they think of the ash and smoke that keeps the sun away, that keeps the world hidden in shadows, even sometimes pure darkness as if night. One hardly sees the stars unless they venture into the city below. One hardly needs to worry about the sunlight unless they leave the well protected abode. High above the sea, high above even the villages that dot certain parts of the mountain, resides a home that means more to one person than to many others. Shadowmasters gather and go, stay and leave. They bring parts to this world that others may not have seen before and ideals. Oh the ideas that come here. This was home. Yes, this a world of darkness was home.

Green mountains spread underneath rolling clouds of life giving ash. Green only went so far before turning into white. A peaceful white. The foresty green mixed with the pureness of snow. It was such a view that few ever missed seeing. Here, on one of the outcroppings of her home, high above the rest of the city, resided one of the highest ranking officials in the mountains. A female who's looks not only stunned men but paralyzed them. Ordinary humans, those like the Rangers and Paladin's, couldn't help but watch and stare. They would lust after and long for, but most importantly, fear such beauty. She, however, didn't value her beauty like many females did. She didn't boast or even try to make her appearance better. She dressed for her comfort and that was it. What guys made of it was up to them. She could care less. Now, her body guard couldn't handle that idea. He was nearly possessive. To the extreme of clawing at anyone that passed. But he was another story.

Peace. It was something everyone took for granted. They didn't see the need in it and caused more pain than needed. Yet that violence is what thrived her. It made up her being. It was her. Violence, peace, and a being that was more dangerous than what she looked, it was a combination that just spoke of trouble. Trouble was exactly what she was. A sly thinker, and a dangerous fighter. Even though her fighting techniques were different, her mind was her strong point. She could out think a Rune Writer and out wit an assassin, all for the joy of it. However, she didn't tend to enjoy it. What she did enjoy was-

A sudden yawn caught her off guard. "Kes!" Came the startled cry from the female. The tone, even though startled, was a mixture of relief and of threat. She disliked it when her guard woke up and she wasn't paying any attention. The land below needed her attention more than the sleeping guard behind her. The only answer she received was a shift and a low snarl. He was such a pain at times. he only woke when he felt like it and only spoke when he needed too. Hardly ever paying attention unless someone came too close and more importantly, never even lifted a finger except when his mistress needed it the most.

Reaching behind her, she found the warm body and laid back. Soft and comfy even though what she was resting her head on probably didn't look anything like what it felt like. Spikes and claws ready to tear one up, hooked wings just waiting for the right moment to strike. Many found it weird that such a creature, as different as it was, could be so protective. A dangerous beast that had no grounds here on this world yet lived its life normally, as any cat or dog would. the fur was that of a cat, a lion's mane one would say. Puffed yet long; hard yet soft. The attitude was that of a cat as well, being a master of its own life yet in need of his human companion. that was where the dog came in, as well as the body. Husky, large, and mean. The features came from both cat and dog. Yet the extra that was to him, the wings and spikes were of something far different. What though, no one knows. It is said that a Rune Writer had created this beast. It is also said that this beast was found. Yet, no one besides the two know for a fact what really happened. And it was staying at that.

The warm feel of the body behind her soon lulled her into sleep. The kingdom would wait. The future would just have to hold on. And her people, well, her people always managed to take care of themselves. It wasn't as if anyone would willingly walk right up to this area without either running into more Shadowmasters than they want or getting into a fight where they just would not win. The mountains alone made invading this land dangerous, let alone the warriors that were walking around below. Now, if the Queen were to stop by for a visit, that was a different subject. As sleep over came the female, a voice called out in the city below. "Where have you gone this time?" A messenger, sent to find her, never did know where she was hidden. "Princess!"

When the smoke of burning men fills the air:
A smoke that no wind can fend.
When you take a breath and you declare:
This is when it really ends.
