Hitoame had found a beautiful field today. Patches of long grass to hide in, big rocks to climb all over, and beautiful flowers to smell! This was such a beautiful place, surely other kits that he could play with would come here too!
He could go ahead and start playing while he was waiting for them!
He set around to climbing over the biggest rock, finding obscure paw-holds and having fun trying to reach the top. The big rocks were the best, because he could also keep a lookout for anyone coming! Though they could still hide in the tall grass.... That just means the rocks couldn't be used to cheat in hide-and-seek!
Hitoame was so pleased to realize this, he almost lost his grip. He managed to keep his grip, but his heart was pounding and he decided it would be best to climb down for now.

Though Kanten wasn't what anyone could call stealthy, that same anyone would probably at the very least give her some points for effort and maybe a pat on the head.
Really, she was doing a very good job of trying to move quietly, though she made the grasses rustle a little every time she pushed forward through them - it was mainly the fact that her tail was flagging upwards, a fluffy red beacon among all the greens and browns of the field. Even her diminutive size and a conscious effort to sneak along low to the ground (which was kind of not as fun as she'd hoped, she kept bumping her nose into things and it was getting sore!) weren't enough to keep the tip of her tail from waving above the tips of the stalks. It might've been less obvious had it matched any of the flowers dotting the field, or if she hadn't kept moving around. As it was, Kan's tail was acting very similarly to a neon sign in that it would be glaringly obvious to anyone who glanced in her direction.
Of course, since she didn't realize this, Kanten was dead convinced that this other kit would never see her coming. She was trying to sneak up behind him (freezing every time it looked like his line of sight might include her, although she couldn't really tell when that was because the grass was kind of tall and hard to see through). She thought it would probably be kind of fun to pounce on the other kit. Normally when others were willing to play with her, they were all so much bigger, and she couldn't very well pounce that high.
But even with those rocks, this kit looked to be about her size! Maybe, just maybe, she'd have the upper hand for once. Her tail wagged a bit in excitement, and Kan still failed to notice that it was giving her position away.

Hitoame carefully tested the ground beneath his paws to make sure it really was there and that he wasn't going to fall again and looked around to see what he should do. Suddenly, he saw a giant red ...flower? plant? something, and wondered if it smelled good. He bounded over toward it, sniffing the air the whole way, and tackled it through the high grass and pinned it to the ground, not even noticing the small kit it was attached to. He buried his nose in in and sniffed loudly.
"This plant smells like a kitsune! What kind of plant is this?"
Still thinking hard about what kind of plant it could be, he nibbled on the fur-like leaves that it had.

Maybe she didn't hear it. Maybe she thought it was just a particularly odd breeze. Whatever the case, Kan was looking around in worried confusion for the other kit (where had he gone when he jumped down? oh gosh he was just as small as her, he could hide in the grass too! where was he where was he) when something attacked her tail.
For a moment she was too startled by the suddenness of it - and the oddity of her tail being referred to as a flower; really, was this other kit blind or something? - to pull her tail away again as she probably should have done. But when she felt the slight pulling, looked back through the grass that halfway hid the other kit, and realized her tail was being eaten she yelped loudly and tried to yank it away. (Not that that did much besides pull on Kan's fur and make it hurt even more.)
"T-that's not a flower, stupid, that's my tail! Let go! How'd you like it if someone tried to eat your tail, huh?"

Hitoame jumped back and fell over onto his head. He rolled over onto his chubby tummy and jumped to his feet, staringing at the kit.
"You're not a plant!" And then he realized that's what she'd been saying, and he panicked.
"I'm so so so so so so so sososososososo sorry, I thought you were a plant, I'm sososo sorry for chewing on your tail, I swear I wouldn't have done it if I'd known it was your tail, I'm so sorry!"

"You're right, I'm not!" Kan turned around to face the other kitsune, shaking herself out. The pain in her tail was rapidly fading, though it would probably stay sore for a while, no matter how much the kit kept wagging it to try to make it go back to normal.
"... You should be sorry," she continued, though there wasn't quite as much feeling in the words as before. Yelling at someone who really was apologetic wasn't fun, just mean, and even Kanten knew that. She wasn't yako, to go and torment someone when they didn't really deserve it. "I don't look anything like a plant, I look like a kitsune. Just like you."
Vaguely she thought this other kit looked kind of similar to one she'd seen before, except not - and it wasn't from seeing him five minutes ago. Hm. She'd hardly met any others their size, though, so she remembered them all distinctly, and she was positive they hadn't met before.
Kan decided she was probably imagining things.
