( Intro probably has to be proofread. )
Four gods govern this chaotic world, their existences tied in with the seasons themselves. Lesser entities fed off of their excess power and developed into monsters, who feasted on the flesh of humans in order to further their own growth.
After devouring a large number of humans, a few of these monsters evolved into Fiends; creatures who posed a threat to the gods themselves, they were more human in appearance than any monster seen before - heroes who attempted to cut them down were ripped to shreds, magicians who attempted to burn them away were disintegrated when their own attacks were directed against themselves. Heroes across the surface of this world were killed off one after the other as they rose against the Fiends; towns and villages no longer had anyone to protect them from the weaker monsters, and countless lives were lost.
Gwynallt, the god of Winter, grew tired of seeing the blood of mortals shed in vain. In anger, he permanently froze the Fiends who posed the biggest threat and locked them away. Unable to withstand the tolls of time, the Fiends eventually wasted away... or so it was said.
An academy dedicated to training new heroes to combat new Fiends was founded in the capital, and is taught by only the best of the best.
The Academy is home to a roving library, which houses several creatures left over from the last massacre... when some students accidentally release the last Fiend leader - who immediately escapes to gather forces - the elite heroes refuse to listen to their claims and dismiss their misdemeanor as a flight of fancy...
Needless to say, the students take it upon themselves to take the leader down.
