*The night after the first time Sasuke and Hunter return from the Bastion*
Something startled Hunter from her sleep. A dream turned nightmarish. She woke hoping to find Sasuke asleep next to her as he always was, but she was greeted by his lonely pillow. She sat up confused and frightened, still desperately trying to shake the nightmare from her head. 'This isn't the first time I woke in the middle of the night and not found Sasuke sleeping next to me. So why am I so worried?' she thought to herself.
She looked around the dark room hoping to find his figure, but there was none except for the usual limited furniture they kept. She whispered his name, still wondering why she was so afraid. 'I'm sure he's just in the kitchen having a midnight snack.' She was trying to convince herself that her gut feeling was untrue. It wasn't a far stretch since that boy always had food on his mind.
She took a deep breath and pushed herself to crawl off the bed. She creeped down the hallway, hoping he would be walking back to bed or even sulking in the living room. She stretched her senses out trying to hear any shuffling around or breathing noises, but all she could hear was Hawk's not-so-gentle snoring.
'At least I'm not completely abandoned.' Her body relaxed a little as she continued down the hall to the kitchen. There was no sign of Sasuke there, so she headed for the living room, her heart sinking a little. Again she was only greeted by an empty and dark room. She was still fighting with her inner dialogue about what the dream she had had meant and that it couldn't possibly be true. 'Sasuke would never betray us. He has no reason to.'
She took a deep breath and decided to check outside. She walked down the corridor to the front door, opening it silently. She hoped he was sitting right on the stoop, smoking, but her heart sank even more when she was met with an empty step. She gasped a little as she looked out to the road and did not see Sasuke's truck sitting there in its usual parking spot. The bare markings from his tire treads almost mocking her. Her mind tried to reason that perhaps he ahd gone to see Blaire or Manic and Sane. Or maybe just out for a drive. All of which were out of character for him to just leave with saying anything.
She knew deep down inside that there was no logical reason. The nightmare shook her whole body as realization of its truth hit her like a ton of bricks.
Suddenly a beam of light coming from around the bend at the end of the road caught her attention. Hope fluttered inside her. 'He must've gone out for something.' As the headlights rounded the corner and came into focus, a wave of fear washed over her as she knew she was horribly wrong. Those headlights did not belong to Sasuke's truck. Years of running and hiding experience told her that those headlights belonged to a military vehicle. Her heart sank even lower, and then panic gripped her as she noticed more headlights turning the corner. "Damn" she muttered as she ran back into the house.
She ran to her room and grabbed her "travel" bag that was always packed for just such an occasion. Then she ran straight back to Hawk's room. He was sleeping half covered on his mattress on the floor. The beams of light from the approaching vehicles reflected off the fence beyond the window. She ran over and flung it open.
"Hawk!" She ran over and began kicking his mattress, tossing his clothes to him. "Hawk get up! We gotta go! Now"
Hawk was shaken loose from his sleep. He very groggily tried to comprehend the world and what was going on. He caught the serious and desperate tone in his sister's voice and shook himself awake. "What's going on?" He grabbed the clothes Hunter had thrown on him and pulled them on.
Hunter vaulted herself out the window. "They're here." She nodded in the direction of the road and the still approaching lights.
Hawk pulled himself out the window, sneaking over to the fence at the back of the yard not far from the house. "Where's Sasuke?" he asked as they both crawled up and over the fence.
"Gone." Her tone was sharp and angry. She glanced out to the vehicles as they had stopped in front of the house. She wanted to see for sure. She stayed there long enough to see her worst fear staring right at her... Simon.
"Damn." She ducked down and they both made a run for it.

"Hunter... Hunter. Come on, wake up, Hunt." Hawk shook his twin harder, trying to desperately rouse her awake.
Unwillingly Hunter pulled herself out of her sleep that she felt she had just fell into mere seconds before. As she rubbed her eyes the cold air of the morning hit her, causing goosebumps to crawl across her forearms. "Yeah okay, I'm awake. What the hell, Hawk? Can't let a girl get some beauty sleep for once." She huffed and dragged her fingers through her very knotted brown hair.
"Sleep all you want when you're dead. We can't afford that luxury anymore." He crawled to the edge of the hole where they had crawled into a few miles away from the suburbs in an abandoned part of the city. It was under a collapsed parking garage structure. The cement walls and ceiling kept most of the cold night air out, so they (well actually just Hawk) wouldn't freeze to death. He examined the surroundings, keeping a keen ear out for any noises of a search party. He hadn't slept at all, and his eyes were rimmed with red showing that.
Hunter scoffed at Hawk's typical bullshit. She pulled over her bag that she had been using as a pillow and pulled out her hairbrush and an elastic. She swiftly brushed the knots and snarls out of her hair, and then gathered it into a high ponytail at the back of her head, twisting the elastic a few times in it, pulling tight for good measure. Without a mirror to check her work, she ran her fingers over it to be sure it wasn't completely bumpy and awkward. It had been awhile since they had literally slept on the street, but she would be damned if she looked it. She rubbed one eye still fighting her to go back to sleep and tossed her bag over her head with the other hand. She crawled over by Hawk, waiting to see what her fearless leader would decide.
Hawk glanced at Hunter as she crawled up beside him. "Finally pretty enough to show your face?" He chuckled to himself and then crawled out of the opening of their hiding place. "We should be good for now. If we're careful and make an untraceable pattern, we can make it to Manic and Sane's probably before they're even awake. The sun is still an hour away from rising." He reached back and helped Hunter pull herself out of the hole in the cement wall. "Maybe you can shed some light on what the hell happened back there."
They both took off at a run; jumping and flipping up the streets and to the roof of a nearby building.

~*~ They landed on the roof across from Manic and Sane's place. They were careful to weave their path through the city to be sure they couldn't be tracked and followed. They had barely spoken the whole frantic time. Hunter only told Hawk simply that she woke and Sasuke was gone. Then she saw the military vehicles come up the street. Hunter was lost in her own inner questioning. 'Why was he there? Why didn't he sound the alarm as soon as he had seen them vault over the fence? Was he waiting to give them a head start? Like some kind of game? Or was he wanting them to escape?' She hadn't gotten a good look at his facial expression, so she could not be sure.
She was pretty sure of one thing. Sasuke had turned them in. He was gone.
Her breathing was beginning to drain from her ears, and she sat on the ledge of the roof. She took a deep breath as she felt the brisk morning air. She closed her eyes and tilted her face up towards the dark morning sky. She opened her eyes and took in the still twinkling canvas above the city. She marveled at how this sight always existed but was only visible when all other lights went out, but it was dying before her eyes as the bright light of the sun rose over the horizon.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Hawk.Hawk was pacing along the edge of the roof. He was agitated at the abrupt disturbance in the night. He was even more annoyed at how Hunter seemed to be ignoring all his very important and probing questions. "Are you going to answer me or just daydream like a girl? God, this Simon-kid has your head all screwy now." He was gesturing wildly as he paced. "I knew bad things were coming. I just knew it. There's a reason we should keep you girls on a need-to-know basis, and even then you should be under lock and key. You can't get through one day without burning something down, giving yourself away to some stranger, or getting us all caught. For Christ's sake..."Hunter cut him off short with one rapid snort and a leaped off the edge of the roof. She landed softly on the ground below, shook herself angrily, and began walking down the street, away from Manic and Sane's place. Her head hurt and she needed some space to clear it. Hawk had never been good in that department. "Hey! You can't go walking off at a time like this, you know," he yelled after her."Watch me," she muttered. "Are you even going to tell them what happened?""I'm sure you will."Hawk kept calling to Hunter even though she was obviously ignoring him. He huffed at the idiocy he felt all around him. "Fine." He pushed himself off the edge of the roof with both feet. Landing with a slight hop on the ground below. He jogged over to Manic and Sane's building and began climbing the ladder. ~*~ Hunter kept walking, deep in her own inner thoughts. She was oblivious to where her feet and mind had been taking her. It wasn't until the ominous shadow devoured the very air around her did she realize where she was. A sudden chill shook her frame as she looked up at the Tower before her. She hugged herself for warmth and comfort, both of which were not present. Why did she come to such a dangerous place... alone? She had kept thinking about Simon and their talk in the park. He had mentioned Nayana might be able to help her train and discover her powers. Some place dangerous for a dangerous person. She didn't feel she could trust anyone right now, except her own instincts. They would have to be what saved herself now.

Hunter entered the black stone courtyard of the Tower very wary of what she may encounter or see. She realized how badly she was shaking and tried to mental calm herself before she burst forth in flames. She took a deep breath as she examined the courtyard. There was a balcony overlooking it with a dim light coming from inside. Next to it, she saw a winding staircase that obviously was the only entrance. She took a deep lingering breath and began to ascend the staircase into the Tower and the unknown room above.
At the top of the stairs was a small, dark room with a curtained entrance to the room. When she peered inside, it looked like an office or an old fashioned study that she had seen in movies before. There didn't seem to be anyone in it, but she remained alert regardless. She stepped to the edge of the curtain poking her head slightly inside so she can see all angles. Still no movement. She swallowed hard. "Hello?" She practically whispered into the room, secretly hoping no one would answer.
