Kekkei Genkai (血継限界; Literally meaning "a technique limited to inheritance by blood, or Bloodline Limit") are abilities passed down genetically in specific clans. Kekkei genkai and their related jutsu can't be taught or copied by others, but it is possible to confer the ability to another person if it's localized in a particular organ like the eyes via organ transplant, like Obito passing his Sharingan eye to Kakashi. Kekkei genkai abilities that work via the user's eye are called dojutsu. Kekkei Genkai is usually translated into Bloodline limit or Bloodlimit techniques.

A requirement of a kekkei genkai, on the other hand, is that it is genetically passed on from parent to child within a specific group of individuals or clan. Although certain techniques may be exclusive to a clan because they are a well-kept secret, such as the Aburame clan's ability to control insects or Kidomaru's web abilities, they do not qualify as kekkei genkai because they could be learned by others outside the clan if information on the techniques was made available

Some kekkei genkai are not included due to the fact that they happend in fillers. Some examples of these kind of kekkei genkai is the kurama clan, crystal release, and ranmaru's dojutsu.

Byakugan

The Byakugan is a genetic trait that is shared amongst the members of the Hyuga Clan. Those that inherit the blood of this clan have almost featureless white eyes (Neji's and Hinata's eyes seem to have tints of lavender and blue-gray, respectively). Although it is not stated directly, it is assumed that all members of the Hyuga family possess the Byakugan. It is a common, but not proven belief that the Sharingan is a genetic offshoot of the Byakugan. (Main topic in clan lands)

Ice Release

Haku's kekkei genkai, allowed him to combine wind and water-based chakra to create ice, which he could manipulate through willpower alone, as seen in the anime from a flashback where he was manipulating water in his hands and again when he uses water to create a field of icicles through his house by freezing water. The ice Haku created was largely immune to fire-based attacks, only melting slightly when coming into contact with flames. Using his special ability, Haku developed the Demonic Ice Crystal Mirrors, which allowed him to create any number of mirrors made of ice to use as a shield or trap an opponent. Haku could enter these mirrors and move between them almost instantaneously, allowing him to easily attack others and not worry about being countered.

Iron Sand

A special technique used by the Third Kazekage. The Third Kazekage studied a host of the One-Tailed Shukaku and learned to imitate the power to control sand. However, when he imitated sand techniques, he used iron dust instead, thanks to his special Magnetic Powers. It is unknown the origins of the magnetic powers, but it is likely it has something to do with lightning element chakra.

When Sasori kidnapped the Third, Sasori killed him, and turned him into a puppet with his technique. When Sasori used his Third Kazekage puppet, he used the Iron Sand as well and put poison in it for special attacks. The puppet was later destroyed by Sakura Haruno and Sasori's grandmother, Chiyo.

When the Third Kazekage developed this technique, he was able to create and manipulate sand like Gaara. Using this he would form the sand into various shapes using his special Kekkei Genkai, magnetic powers, to crush his opponents or even mold the sand, making it a weapon to use. The Iron Sand can also clot up the joints of puppets, making them unusable in battle as long as the Third Kazekage's magnetic field is in function.

Sharingan

The Sharingan is a Kekkei Genkai, which appears in some members of the Uchiha clan of Konohagakure. Some think that it was derived from the Byakugan many years ago. It allows the user to comprehend the attack of an opponent almost before the attacker knows what attack they are making. The Sharingan also allows the user to see the flow of chakra within a person, but to a lesser extent than the Byakugan.

When the Sharingan is first activated by a user, it has a different number of tomoe around a central pupil, varing among the users. The wielder of the Sharingan, through continued use, evolves the Sharingan which involves gaining tomoe. The maximum number of tomoe in a conventional Sharingan is three. When the user gets three tomoe in each, he becomes able to predict all movement from his opponent, although he might not be able to keep up with him. The only level up from there is the Mangekyo Sharingan, which is said to be gained by the loss of someone exceptionally close to you, preferably by your own hands. (Main topic in clan lands.)

Rinnegan

The Rinnegan is the most revered and powerful of all the three great eye techniques. The Rinnegan is characterized by a number of concentric circles around the pupil of the user. It has recently been revealed that in addition to allowing an individual to quickly master various jutsu, the user may also use all forms of nature manipulation. Like the Sharingan and Byakugan do, the Rinnegan also allows the user to sense chakra, including an otherwise hidden barrier. It was first possessed by the Sage of the Six Paths, said to be the founder of the ninja world and the creator of the first ninjutsu. Currently, the eyes are possessed by Pain. According to Ibiki Morino, if the Rinnegan eyes really exist the user can utilize any type of jutsu.

Skikotsumyaku

Shikotsumyaku is the Kekkei Genkai of the extinct Kaguya clan, which gave them the ability to manipulate their own skeletal structure. They had free control over the cells responsible for bone growth and replacement, allowing them to manipulate their bones at will. They could protrude their bones out through their skin with any injuries that would be received during this process healing instantly, change their bone density, and could even completely regenerate a lost bone. An example of this is seen with the Drilling Finger Bullets, which fires the user's fingertip bones like bullets. All this makes their bodies virtually indestructible, and any point of contact on the body could become as sharp as a spear tip, giving them a nearly perfect defense. The ability seems to be rare amongst the clan members, as Kimimaro was the only one to exhibit it out of his entire clan. The reason for this could be because the rest of the clan was very barbaric in which he was not.

Soma no ko

Soma no Ko is the unique ability of Sakon and Ukon that allows them to unify some or all of one's body with the others body. Typically, Ukon is dormant in Sakon's body, with his head protruding from the back of Sakon's neck. When Sakon is in need of assistance, Ukon can bring out some of his body parts to aid Sakon in blocking or attacking. Examples of this are seen in the forms of Multiple Connecting Punches and Multiple Connecting Kicks, where Ukon's arms and legs emerge from those of Sakon to add force to his physical attacks.

If needed, Ukon can separate from Sakon's body so that the two can attack independently. While this can be an effective way of double teaming an opponent, Ukon is not used to being outside of or leading Sakon's body and is much weaker when he does so. Despite this, the separated brothers are capable of merging with the bodies of others through Parasite Demon Demolition Technique. Once they have done so, Sakon or Ukon can destroy the host's cells from the inside, slowly killing them. While within another's body, however, they are vulnerable to whatever injuries befall upon the host, in theory allowing the host to commit suicide to kill either of the brothers

Wood Release

The Wood Release techniques combine earth and water-based chakra to create wood. Wood Release techniques can be produced from anywhere, including the user's body, as the user's chakra is literally converted into a source of life. Hashirama Senju was the originator of this ability, evidenced by the fact that none of his relatives have been shown capable of using Wood Release. The First's ability to use these techniques was the reason for him being given the title of Hokage, and with Wood Release Secret Technique: Birth of Dense Woodland he was able to grow the trees that served as the foundation of Konohagakure.
