If Yuki is so "Omgz hawt, kool" etc, I'm going to shoot myself in the head, or be entire convinced that his fanbase is compromised of mostly girls drooling over his looks.
I mean, the guy IS AN a**. I used to really think he was cool. But reading the "Gravitation 2" chapters makes me boil.
I mean, the man KICKS a CHILD. I don't care if it was supposed to be humorous. It wasn't funny, it was sick. And the death-thread made to that child wasn't funny either.
Eiri Yuki isn't the cool guy I thought he was. I've gone through my head trying to explain off his assholish behaviour, but nothing comes to mind.
I can most certainly think of friends of my own who have a terrible past (beatings, ACTUAL rape, etc) and don't beat on their lovers. (That's supposed to be funny? It's disgusting.)
I can think of anime characters that I adore, who have had a bad past and hurt someone they loved, and they don't abuse children.
I mean, he was going down in my favorite character list the farther I read into the manga, but the whole Riku think REALLY grinds my gears. I used to really admire him, but now I think he's just sick. Period. And he's gone through so many emotional changes, it's about time he stops playing the "I'm a poor little boy witha bad past, so I'm going to act all jerkish!" role and start cleaning up his act.
For example, stop acting like trash. Are there any fans who can give me a reason to forgive a once-loved character? I really did like him, but now I can see through his good looks, and see a nasty, nasty personality that even the comic's attempts to mask it with humor are failing.
(This is a SERIOUS discussion on Eiri Yuki's behaviour. Don't reply stuff like "eiri is my fave i'll kill u!" It really defeats the entire half hour I spend typing this.)
Edit: So, has anyone read the Gravitation Novels? In Voices of Temptation, he kicks Shuichi has hard as he can into an arcade machine. Hard enough to break the machine and make his lover limp around.
Man, this is SO unfunny.

I haven't read Gravitation 2, so my opinion on Yuki Eiri hasn't changed.

Right on, sister.
Eiri Yuki is one effed-up mofo-- and I've known he was since starting Gravitation.

Haha! Best discussion.
Eiri doesn't treat Shuichi any better, so why did he have to treat the cat downstairs better..
Anyways, back to Kicking Rikku. Eiri's not [to me] a totally bad a**. Its just his way of -hating- people. He wants people to take notice of him, and understands him, instead of him understanding people. That is why, maybe,he just doesn't like Rikku. Or either all that, Eiri's jealous of Rikku because Rikku gets to spend time with Shuichi. Yes,Eiri needs attention......
But at least, he kicked Rikku, not push him onto incoming cars...like..someone..we..know..
Oh,and about Rikku. He's using his memories to get people to treat him better. He's all cute and sweet, but he's worst off than Eiri. -Maybe-.Hah
But overall, I symphatize with Shuichi. I thought his whinings are all just killing me.But when more volumes comes out, he just gets pitier.
And what's with Ryuichi liking Shu? That doesn't make anything better..no?

I don't really blame Eiri for kicking Riku. The kid seems really annoying. Plus Shuichi was paying more attention to Riku than Eiri, so I guess he was getting jealous. Also, having Riku around probably isn't really helping Eiri's mental state, I mean, who wants the guy you killed's kid around to help remind you at every possible opportunity? o_O;

Responses to Kurei Ki and to Io-Chan (both):
Rikku isn't annoying, the kid doesn't even SAY anything. He even tried to make Eiri feel better, and all Eiri did was stomp off like he was on his period. Plus, Rikku is around 4-6 years old, and probably hasn't had a daddy all his life. (And who knows where the mother is, when the poor kid is calling Shuichi "mommy" and all).
Seriously, would you kick the quiet little four-year-old in the park if he happened to come up and snuggle onto your boyfriend's lap?
It isn't Rikku's fault Eiri can't distinguish the difference between a toddler and his long dead sicko father, and he shouldn't have to suffer for it.
Yeah, it'd be pretty funny if Eiri went to jail for second degree murder...for pushing a child into the street. XD (Tohma is just batty, seriously. He's a wicked wench, and so damn entertaining.)
No it's true, Eiri doesn't treat anyone very well. Oh sure, he was all nice and polite to Ayaka and Rage. (I really didn't like Rage...Ayaka was ok in the manga, but they changed her alot in the anime. Anyway, this isn't a discussion on them.)
But he treats his sister like s**t, and his lover like s**t, and little children like s**t, and anyone else that comes around if he's in a nasty mood. Yeah, you know what Eiri? Life sucks for a lot of us, but we don't all go around taking it out on other people. If he's going to be jealous of a 4 year old and get abusive, then he truly is a pathetic, pathetic man.
I'm sorry to keep bringing up the Rikku thing. But when you read things in a newspaper, like a story about a father or mother's boyfriend or other man beating a child, you'd think "Oh no! How awful! That b*****d!" Well, Yuki's not going that badly, but whats going to stop him from doing other bad things?
(And you all remember the saying that rape victims, which might I add Eiri is only an ateempted rape victim, grow up to repeat the same things on other people? Whats going to stop him from turning into a wild sicko? He can go to as many psychologists as he wants, but only he can change himself.)
Ahem. Thank you both for your contributions to this thread. ^^ I'm glad to be able to talk with intelligent minded fans, I was afraid of being ovverun by fangirls. >.> Just like in the show! O.O

Yeah, well. I guess you're right. Maybe Eiri doesn't know how to treat kids right.Or is it just that Murakami-sensei's trying to do some jokes..?.. Afterall, she's the one who made Eiri like that.Oh well, back to the discussion.
Now that you mentioned it,what's up with treating Reiji like that? Doesn't he know the difference between strangers and relatives? He should actually treat Rikku better since he's actually the son of a guy who Eiri used to love in the past. Gosh, what a writer..

Totally! ..I can understand not wanting to be reminded of that...but still....it would be cruel to blame a small, impressionable child ... I get the feeling Murakami-sensei was trying to be funny...but failed miserably. If kicked children is her idea of funny, then her sense of humor has gone down waaaayyyyy low.

IMO, Riku's behavior is really unsurprising. He's got one hell of a childhood as it is, but now he's saddled with two unfamiliar men, one of which seems to hate his guts for reasons that he doesn't even know of, let alone ones he could understand. Him acting out really is a normal reaction, it's a wonder he's not even more messed up. He's only a kid and acts out the only way he knows how.
... erm, by being... a bit bratty.
So what if he's a little annoying? How old is that kid anyway, like, six or something?
Anyway. Eiri Yuki is just about the most immature characters in the whole entire series.
I include Shuichi in this statement.
He is not only unable to move on from his tragedy in the past- which is nothing to sneeze at- but REFUSES to. Because in essence, he is the only one who can change himself because he wants to. One of the key points in that equation is Shuichi- to learn to love and be loved in return without any inhibitions.
And yet, he still treats Shuichi like s**t.
It further emphasizes his immaturity: He is irked by his lover, who is really just trying to please him, and as a result, acts out like a child would. However, in his twisted adult mindset, that acting out is manifested in violence, most of which (if in real life they occured- I mean, this IS a manga) are absolutely awful.
But like I said, this IS a manga, but I am trying to analyze Eiri's character seriously.
In doing so I feel like a nerd but that's how it goes.
But I think Eiri's problem is he's terribly childish. He's a child emotionally in a different way that Shuichi is- who should really just kick Eiri in the nuts and be done with him, in my humble opinion- which really affirms that thier relationship is realistically unstable and doomed to failure. The only thing that has really kept them going from what I've seen is Shuichi's blind faith in him.
And then comes Ryuichi! =D

finally I can come back to this topic and actually repsond, as I have just been able to finish the first gravitation manga series and buy the 1st volume of Gravitation X.
Anyways, as for the whole Eiri kicking Riku thing. ... can't say I have anything to explain his behavior, as it's just Yuki being his angsty, jerkass self.
in some ways I can understand why he doesn't like the kid, but then again those reasons aren't the kid's fault. But yeah.. I can't say much more seeing as Yuki is still a fav character of mine. Besides at the end of the first volume he get's what was coming to him. (sorry... I wasn't making an arguement or anything, just stating how I felt about it.)
