How do I react when I hear this song?:
This song reminds me of looking at the past as if I were talking to it as a lost friend. It reminds me of memories and those sunny days you never want to forget. I often times think of reaching out to a figure, a person, per say, that is enveloped in a sunny light, or simply, the luster of the past days. I feel a longing for this luster, this lost state of calm, and yearn for those days again.
I become restless and unfocused, as if woken from a sweet slumber, realizing that I cannot go back to the past. It hurts and it twists within me, but the melody eventually brings me back to a state of peace. A state of emotional freedom. I am able to think again, to breathe again. I feel like I'm standing up from the rubble of a building, surveying the land around me with a new view.
I still have the yearning for the past, the security, the warmth, the unconditional love. But now I see it. The reason to look forward. Those days back then gave me comfort and made me smile and I can still smile as I walk forward. I can look up at the sky, feeling both relief and anxiety, and thank the past for the lessons it taught me, and for the new found hope it has given me.
This song starts out with longing, yearning and wishing. You want to see the places, the faces, the past. You want to feel the embraces and experience the laughter once more. But then, you wake up, startled and saddened. You can't have the past again, you realize, and stumble around for a while. You're angry, sad, confused and anxious. You spend hours trying to get it together. But something comes to remind you.
It says, "You alone create your path. You can choose to wallow around and feel lousy about your life or you can stand up, put on a brave face, and keep going."
With this information taken into account, you decide to clean up and move on with your life. You still yearn, you still get stuck, but now you won't give up. The good memories are references to what could be again, maybe not in exact form, but the feeling would be the same. With this, you know you can carry on.
