this was something that saddened me when i went with Grand master St.ives to a tournament in vegas. before the tournament i went with him to a belt test for a Kajukenbo belt test. i was very impressed with the performance of the school. after the test they invited us to dinner and i met with many of the high ranking members of the style. wile there though as i was sitting at the table with all those master (i dont know how i manged to end up sitting with them) but they began talking about its politics within its style. it fell down to that there was a power struggle moving around in its federation and that some wanted to break away. i then learned that there was the same thing going on in the limalama federation since the passing of GM.Tino. many styles have fallen to such things like TKD,Kenpo, and various other wide spread arts. so what are your view of Style Politics and have you witnessed or even heard talks of this?

I personally think that the mainstreme martial arts should give others a fighting chance, pardon the pun, and let them get in the spotlight

Techinacally, there are no pros/cons. only as however you(the individual) views it. My view only implores the fact that all martial arts should have a chance almost to advertise for new athletes/practitioners, and gain followers. A pro could be obviously more variety in martailarts communities worldwide/specific countries. A Con would be that maybe the less popular martial arts might lose some popularity...somehow xp Master Fearhoral Italian-420 I personally think that the mainstreme martial arts should give others a fighting chance, pardon the pun, and let them get in the spotlight well that is your view but further explain? like what is the pro behind your view and what is a possible con?

The simple fact is that anytime that you get more than two people in a room, both will have differing opinions on just about everything conceivable. The martial arts are little exception, and where there are opinions there are politics. It's a tragic but unavoidable law of the human condition. It's a tragedy that martial artists, for all our enlightenment cannot rise above the situations that bring the political to the fore.
The best example I can think of is the schism between the ITF and WTF schools of Tae Kwon Do, between whom the relationship can be best described as polite hatred. A disparity in ways of thinking about a martial art can sever ties between schools and create bitterness. It all boils down to personal belief and approach. Like so many other martial matters, nobody is exactly the same as anyone else and people can either understand this fact and accept it or choose to use it as a source of strife and conflict.

its amazing how dark martial arts gets when your in the high ranks. i mean its not so much as to where they send kill squads out to eliminate masters (at least not to my knowledge)but you got people who may challange you for your rank or position within a federation. i have yet to see a master debelt or be debelted by a same ranked master and i pray i never see a lower level commit such an act. nor do i ever want to be in a position where someone would want to do that to me. and to a degree i wished i had never heard that there are such people with a power thirst to do these things

eek Masters fighting within ranks? I have never heard of such a thing... (is very happy not to have). Now I will say our school split because of some sabotage by its founder when he wanted to retire, but that doesn't affect any of the masters or us as instructors. From all over the state, we train together, we fight together, we learn together. We're a family. Is that not true of other arts?

I'm not surprised ... but it's people that bring the politics into the martial arts ... that's the unfortunate part ... you see more politics in play when it comes to the West ...

I just spent 10 minutes trying to think about an intelligent comment involving politics in martial arts, and then I realized my time would be better spent doing pushups biggrin
