As Aurora High has progressed, we've noticed different levels of literacy. Along with the Literacy Rulebook that Epic Irony gratefully put up, we have come up with a level system for literacy and spell uses. Now, lets say your character needs to use a spell, you can't just whip up a super cool spell that your character hasn't even practiced. That's not literate is it? In order to fix such things, we've created a level system, numbered 1-5 (or 1-10, I can't remember) So lets say your character is a level three. (If 1-5...) That means you're significant, but you have room for growing. Now, as a level three, you can go to the spell book, and search through the spells to see which ones you can use. But, you're character can't god-mod, so you have to practice the spell in order to efficiently use that spell in battle. Got it?

In order to be given a level, you have to post a paragraph+ of your character casting a spell of any sort here, and hip-hop04 and I will judge you on the paragraph you wrote and give you a level.

Examples:

Level one sad Pathetic)
John lookz at the rock. he haz nothing else to do. he was bored.

And so on. No proper grammar, capitals, and not a single complex sentence no details.

Level two: (Beginner)
John looked at the rock. He still had nothing else to do he was bored. He wish Jane was here.

Better grammar, capitals present no details.

Level Three: (Semi Lit.) <---- You want to be here
John stared at the rock, because he has nothing else to do. He was lonely, and he wished his best friend, Jane was here.

Decent. Lacking some detail. 1-2 paragraphs

Level Four: (Lit) <----- Or here
John stared at a rock on a cold night. He wished he had something to do, but the day was done. He also wished for his best friend, Jane.

No to very little grammar problems. Very detailed. 2-4 paragraphs

Level five: (Adv. Lit) <---- Or here
John stared longingly at the rock. He used it as an open canvas to paint pictures for his best friend, Jane. It was freezing that night, but his body and emotions were numb, and he couldn't care less. Everything had seemed to escape him that day.

No grammar issues, full of detail. 3-9+ paragraphs

And, these are examples. The posts her should not be about John or Jane or the cold night. Last time I checked, that had nothing to do with magic.
(Oh, and if it's not obvious, don't post yet, and this is being edited)

((Edit by Captain:: Time to post! Also note, if you don't make a post here you won't be allowed to cast spells. I'm sorry, but it's necessary to make sure everyone is active, literate, and knows how to properly cast spells in the RP. The rules are simple:

1. Everyone must post a paragraph (at least. remember! at least 5-6 sentences per paragraph!). If you have more than one student for a character, you have to make a post per character.

2. When you make a post, it must be an actual happening. You have to use your character's name and school. It's just like you're in the Arena or wherever practicing a spell

3. Note:: You can use ANY spell from THE SPELLBOOK to make your post. As long as it's a literate post, and you follow the rules and guideline of the RP and this topic, it's appropriate.

4. If you DO have more than one character, please make separate posts for them. It's easier to read that way.

Your post determines what spells you are allowed to use. Though, they cannot be perfected until you practice them. Practice them anywhere, at an appropriate time. The ONLY people allowed to decide your level is me or Rorreami.

Any questions? PM me or Rorreami.))

The Arena was filled with the sounds of battle. The darkness surrounding him was the first major problem for Trace; he couldn't fight what he couldn't see. Not as good as he should, anyway. He was able to defend himself well enough against any attacks thanks to his heightened sense of hearing, but to make an actual attack and have it be effective, sight would be a massive bonus. Of course, being a Death student, the most effective way to (temporarily) retain his sight was simply to steal someone else's. Preferably an opponent. And his memory glanced back to the first day at school; the meeting where he learned his first official spell. He'd drained the target dummy of its essence and attained sight for a limited time... Now would be his chance to do so again, this time to make a real difference in this fight. A sharp whistle from his left signaled an attack; he blocked it simply by swatting the blow away with his sword, stepping in the opposite direction he glanced the blow in. He shot his hand forward, resting it on his enemy's forehead, and shouted, "Vamprise!" Although he couldn't see it, the man would immediately be covered in a shadow that was sprayed from his fingers. This began liquefying and flew back up Trace's arm, spreading throughout his body. In moments it reached his face, and he blinked once before sight came back. "Alright," he muttered, getting a fix on everything he saw as a grin came to his face. "Time to kick some serious a**..."

((Not looking forward to having to re-post for each character I have... Ugh lol))

She then sighed and turned to Rexxie. "Rexxie, I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but she really just needs time right now. Just leave her alone to sort out her thoughts, okay?" Anaiis then sighed and looked back to the castle. "I'm her best friend...I'll go talk to her. You just...just please say here. Please? Thank you." Bennett closed her eyes for a brief moment, searching the recesses of her mind for memories of spell casting in class. The Arena's battle scene shifted to a screen of blackness and she closed her ears to the distracting sounds. It was easier to focus on remembering spells without acknowledging those battles around her. Bennett's heart beat nervously in her chest as she sorted through memories of her "normal life" with her Grandmother and memories she made at this school. A teasing, warm breeze passed over her body, lifting her red-brown curls from her shoulders and shifting her bangs off her forehead. Someone was playing with her. A flare of anger ignited in her chest. She took a steadying breath, stuffing it back down. It never did her any good to lose herself to anger; in fact, it made things worse. Bennett wiped her sweaty hands across the thighs of her black and red yoga pants. "Come on...Come on..." She muttered, feeling rushed and frustrated with herself.

Finally, the perfect memory filtered into Bennett's mind. A confident smile overtook her previously down-turned lips and her eyelids opened to reveal dark blue irises with golden streaks in them. Her determined stare took in the darkness that presently surrounded her.
Not that the darkness is a big problem for me, she thought with a smirk, No, a little darkness never stopped a student from the School of Fire. Bennett pressed her lips together, reciting the spell from her memory in her mind first. She lifted her wand, opened her mouth and yelled "Uzliesmot!" A bird exploded from the tip of her wand, raining fire and light as it took to the air. As it flew, the darkness disappeared, making the target visible again. Bennett stared up in awe as the phoenix took to the air, guided by her wand. Her mind joined with the fire bird's and they became one. Bennett thought of the target and the bird took aim. Boom. The target dummy exploded in heat and flame. Bennett's smile was brilliant and victorious. The bird cawed and disappeared, heat and smoke radiating from where it had been.

Aura sighed as she let herself drop from resting on her heels to sitting on her bum, not before checking for sticks. The grass was forgiving and didn't hurt like earlier when her behind was stabbed by a random twig she hadn't noticed. She started the day early, hoping to practice the spell she learned back in the Storm class.

The sun's rays warmed her skin, unhindered by clouds. Earlier, Aura had noticed other students from her school, The School of Myth, out here practicing spells. Slightly nervous since she hadn't succeeded her past tries of this easy spell, she decided to do it alone with no witnesses. So far, she wasn't doing so well. So here she was, a good hour since she had come outside. Running a hand through her hair Aura glared at her wand and pointed it towards a beetle crawling over her foot.
"Blackout!" She practically yelled and yelped as it succeeded, but not how she had planned. instead of blinding the innocent beetle she had shocked herself.

"What should you call me? Well, for now just call me 'Phoebe'..."

Melanie was a bit lost in her own thoughts, and her mind was so intent on being Phoebe that she didn't immediately respond to her true name. However, a whispering voice snapped her out of it. Mel, pay attention. You're going to miss your chance!

She looked up and noticed the teacher wanted her to start with the spell. It took her a while to remember and pronounce the incantaion in her head, until she started after muttering, "I'm not Melanie, I'm Phoebe..."

The shadows darkened and surrounded one of the graves marked with just "Sam" and an "X." A faint glow appeared as the soul was extracted, a slow process that seemed like a tug-of-war. When it finally came out, Mel could see part of the person. The face was fair and not really decayed, either meaning it was well-preserved or that the face was not damaged when the person died. It was androgynous; the face was lovely enough to be a girl's yet handsome enough to belong to a boy. There were barely any wrinkles, indicating a young age, and the cheeks were neither too fat nor too thin, indicating a healthy weight. The hair and eyelashes were a golden blonde, and the eyes were a deep teal. Other than that, there was not much to describe, except that the head was only connected to an esophagus and stomach.

"What are you, Marie Antoinette?!" Mel instantly replied, a reaction to seeing the floating head. Then she regretted it, since she lost one question and probably ticked off the spirit. "Uh, I apologize, you don't need to answer that. I'd like to ask you..."

She thought for a bit, until she had a vague idea of what she wanted to ask. "Which era did you live in? Did you have a family? And were you ever in... love?"

"But who am I? I'm just your friendly, neighborhood serial killer."

Kei planted her feet
firmly on the ground. It was still early and misty outside, very eerie. But it was better than with other people though, Kei was deathly afraid of hurting someone. She felt very absorbed in what she was doing, like a young child trying to ride a bike. Except an Ice Student at a Lake. Kei had been practicing this one spell for a long time. If she got it wrong yet another time, she'd have to cry.

She held her wand in her left and so tightly in her left hand, her knuckles were going to break skin. She may have been overreacting a bit, she was only practicing a spell on a normal old Wednesday. But, she was prone to over-exaggerating, and maybe she succeeded better that way, and she had an overactive imagination. So, she probably thought she was going to die if the spell wasn't cast right.

"Freeze pilienus klusums vēl nemierīgs ūdeņos!" she exclaimed, pointing her wand at the lake, and a little light flashed from the tip. As she let her arm drop to her side, the water started to ripple. And gradually, from the point at which the blue light hit the water, the lake froze over. She felt so accomplished. She let out a small sigh of relief. Of course, she still needed to practice, but at least she knew that at some off chance she could cast the stupid spell.

"Kei Scott! Ice Student!" A stern voice came from behind her."Now isn't the time to be wandering around campus mindlessly casting spells! Who do you think was going to melt the lake?" Kei tried to explain that she wasn't doing anything wrong, but she knew it probably wasn't the smartest thing she'd done in a while. She was afraid the teacher, who she didn't know, was going to pull her away by the ear like her older siblings did. Kei cringed away from the elderly teacher, afraid of what was to come next.

Sometimes you just have to hold your head up high,
blink away the tears and say
good-bye.

Alexx stood at the head of her army, overlooking an amazing view of the Aurora High Castle in the background...
The enemy army was several yards away; maybe even a mile. They were slightly below her and her army, since they were perched upon a hill. The air was cold, and the sun was just about to rise over the horizon. The clatter of battle gear was ringing in the airwaves. A battle was about to be started, and she wasnt going to mess this up... It could very well mean her life would be taken. By the very same man she called her master....
Alexx made sure her wand was safely in her black leather combat boot, and her shield was tight around her left arm. Her 3 1/2 foot sword forged of metal stronger than steel and blesses by death itself was hanging in a scabbard on her left hip. She put on her Greek/Roman styled helmet; completed with a plume of shadowy black, ice cold fire.
Alexx took a deep breath, and looked behind her; everyone was ready. She turned to face the enemy army ahead of her, and pulled out her wand from her boot. She raised it into the air, and yelled in a very clear, loud voice: "Mors concede nobis virtutem ad victoriam!" With those words, a blinding flash of shimmery gray blasted out of the crystal tip of Alexx's wand. It was pure power coming from all the darkness around them, strengthening her army for battle. As the spell took the physical shape of a thin dome, it spread out for at least a three mile radius. Alexx could feel the power coursing through her veins, and by the sounds of it, so did her army. She smiled, and with that charged down the hill with the loudest battle cry any woman has made in history...
