Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. With two trusty sidekicks in tow, he hatches a cunning plot to divest the fairyfolk of their pot of gold. Of course, he isn't foolish enough to believe in all that "gold at the end of the rainbow" nonsense. Rather, he knows that the only way to separate the little people from their stash is to kidnap one of them and wait for the ransom to arrive. But when the time comes to put his plan into action, he doesn't count on the appearance of the extrasmall, pointy-eared Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaisance) Unit--and her senior officer, Commander Root, a man (sorry, elf) who will stop at nothing to get her back.
Do you think Artemis has no heart why or why not?

Wait. We get to meet his brothers? Wow, I missed a lot.
I read the first three books when they came out. I really loved Artemis' wits. And I do think he has a heart. As Real Horroshow Groodies said, he has his principles. It's just that he also has his goals, and he'll do whatever it takes to reach them. In the first book, I didn't like him all that much, except for his wits, but he becomes more and more likeable as the story continues.
I wonder if I should read the last volumes. It feels so nostalgic, I'd be a little afraid of taking away from the childhood memory those novels have become to me, but at the same time, I'm really curious as to what happens later on... For those who have read the series; do you think the books "grow up", so to say, along with the readers? 'Cause if they do, I might reread the ones I have and get the other novels from my local library...

I'm not exactly sure if they "grow up with the reader" but since the last time I read the series was when the Last Colony came out I plan to reread all of the ones I have and also the ones that I didnt read =)

I love Arty heart and yes he dose have a heart. At the end of the book he has Holly heal his mother, and later you find out he has brothers and it sounds like he loves them and they're adorable.

I read and loved all the books!!!
I think that Arty does have feelings and a real heart, its just that he is really smart and he was born into a family of criminals. Besides, he loves his mother so he has to have feelings.
