Welcome to Manhattan! One of the oldest areas around here that's filled with people and famous landmarks! Traffic fills the area with sounds of a beeping symphony. There's also the subway that most people take. A great place to go for most people! Though - that's never quite a good thing for a demi-god to hear. For mortals, it's lovely - for us on the other hand, it's a bit on the dangerous side. Monsters popping out from nowhere trying to kill you - it's... sort of life-threatening. Make sure you don't have any technology either, that's like a red flag signal for the monsters. Good luck getting away!

Saphira grumbled as she got up from her sweet dream and made breakfast for herself since her mother was out working at early morning hours. An hour later after a shower, exercise and pack a lunch. Then she went to school, skipped reading anything since it only hurt her eyes, excelled in gym, got in a few fist fights with local bullies, got detention as usual, then walked home after after the end of a repeated daily routine that she'd grown accustom to. On her way home, once a month though, she changed the routine to visit her father, Neil's, grave. Today was that day, on the day that he died, didn't matter if it was the same month or not, it was the day that mattered to her.

By the time she got home, the sun was going down, she'd fought of some crazy people with weird faces and other strange aspects about them, but managed to beat them to a pulp, kill some and then the others were cowards and fled. She didn't come away without a scratch from those fights though, she wasn't used to fighting those things yet and she was still trying to figure out just what they were so she could study the b astards easier than waiting to be attacked so she could study their fighting movements. She had a cut on her arm and a bruise on her jaw, lucky for her, her bruises usually faded quickly and her cuts were fast healers too.

She came home to see one of her mothers boyfriends lounging on the couch, drinking beer and being a total pig and ordering her mother around. Frowning she dropped her backpack on the ground by the table and went over, and took the bottle of beer from his hands and hit it on his head, effectively breaking the bottle and getting him on his feet in anger. However, when he saw just who had done it, he stepped away from her.

"Who do you think you are, coming in here, drinking away in my house, ordering my mother around and being a total pig in the process? I'm gonna kick your sorry a** out of here and you won't be so pretty when I'm done if you don't leave now and take your stupid trash and bottles with you!" she demanded angrily, stepping toward him with fists beside her and he only backed up before quickly picking up his trash from KFC and his 10 empty bottles of beer and caps and quickly ran out the door before she could do much else, or so he thought. She let him get away, but she followed him to the door and slammed the door behind him with a warning not to come back.

She turned to her mother, who had heard the commotion from the door slamming, standing in the hallway with a hand to the back of her neck as if in shame. "What did I tell you about letting idiots like that into the house Mom? They're idiots, they don't care about you, you should just find a decent guy that doesn't drink, smell, or is fat and don't tell me you already did, cause he ain't around anymore and Neil is dead. I'm telling you to find someone else thats better than either of them or more like Neil." she stated harshly, but it slowly got softer as her mother flinched at her anger at the idiot and she knew her mother knew she'd made a mistake in letting that man into the house, but her mother was just too gentle and kind hearted, it was hard for her to stand up for herself and say no or beat it. She supposed that's why she developed a temper with her and anyone else for that matter, she didn't want to be as weak as her mother.

Picking up her bag, she brushed by her mother after patting her shoulder and went into her room, putting her bag away and flopping onto her bed to listen to some decent music in her head phones.

Ares stopped his chariot outside of the house of a mortal woman just as some man ran out, the door slamming behind him. Getting off of his bike, Ares looked at the man, his eyes narrowed behind his sunglasses. The man went to get into a car, but Ares stopped him, placing a hand on the door to stop him from opening it. The man glared up at him angrily. "What do you think you're doing? Get out of the way!" the man exclaimed. Ares frowned. "What do you think you're doing?" he demanded, "A coward like you who can't stand up to Saphira has no right to date Emilia." he growled in a low, dangerous tone. The man quivered before nodding meekly. Disgusted, Ares turned away and shoved his hands in the pockets of his motorcycle jacket. Honestly, how could Emilia possibly fall for such a man? She was nice, but not, overall, a weak woman, or at least she hadn't been when Ares had known her. How could she have started going out with cowards like that? Ares hadn't minded the man who had raised Saphira, Niel, and had even ended up fighting alongside the man a few times when he was bored, so how Emilia could have gone from being with someone like him, to someone like that, Ares was unsure.

Putting the matter out of his head, he walked up to the door and knocked on it lightly. He had no idea how Emilia would react to seeing him, although, the truth of the matter was the fact that he had come there for his daughter, after all, in the end, no mortal woman really compared to Aprodite, and he, as a god, couldn't stay with a mortal forever.

He heard footsteps, and then the door opened to reveal Emilia. Her hand flew to her mouth, and a disbelieving cry came to her lips. "Oh! Jedrek! What are you doing... I never thought! " she cut herself off, seemingly unsure of what to say. Ares smiled. "I came to see you, as well as Saphira, I felt I should." he told her calmly.

A huge smile broke out on Emilia's face. "Come in!" she exclaimed, waving him into the house and shutting the door behind him, "Make yourself at home, Saphira is in her room, I'll go get her." she said as she ran off. Ares nodded and and sat on the couch, listening as Emilia knocked on the door to their daughter's room. "Emilia honey, can you come here? There's someone I want you to meet." she said softly.

Saphira had her music on too loud for any words to come her way, but she still knew that her mother was knocking on her door. Sighing she lifted one ear off her head and listened to her mother before sighing again. "If its another idiot boyfriend forget it. I'll just scare him off and beat him to a pulp, if that doesn't work I'll pull out my knife and kill him. Here's the list you need to forget about in guys, no fatties, no bullies, no idiot that thinks he can do whatever he wants with you just because your nice, especially no dope heads that say they the man around here and a girl has no say in the house, stay away from the smelly ones that drink and smoke all day because their pigs. Maybe I should add bikers and gangsters while i'm at it since my supposed to be father is one of those too, find someone like Neil who is honorable and respects you why don't ya. He's the only real man you've ever met. Anyone other than that can kiss my a**. I don't wanna see, hear or speak to him." she stated, not moving otherwise, and before her mother could say or do otherwise, she replaced her head phone and relaxed to the music once more, drowning out the day of idiots and stupid males. It was the only way she could even sit still, was by listening to her music. When her music wasn't playing she was out fighting or something along those lines. And if she couldn't fight, she was at the play ground across the road punching the trees to build up her durability and strength. If that was done, she went to a fight club and fought there, getting training and then some.

And if some idiot that came soon after the previous idiot left, she was willing to bet that it was the first idiots friend that he thought could ruff her up to put her in her place. But if the b astard even opened her door she'd be on him so fast and giving him black and blue bruises for invading her space. Her room was her territory, not even her mother was allowed in it. She had pictures all on her wall. Some of a few actors and the character they played, some of the stones she liked so much, some with her favorite band Guns & Roses, even her dream bike that she wanted to get. Her father, Neil, had taught her how to ride one before he left and since then she's liked the things. But her mother didn't have any money to buy her a bike when she grew out of the small dirt bike her father gave her. As far as she cared, Neil was her only father, and her birth father obviously didn't give a crap about her or her mother since he left them, so he didn't even have the right to be called her father. However, her mom never told her his name so she'd just call him jack-a** for his name instead, and if she ever met him, she'd punch him to high heavens and back and still stick a rod up his butt to make him suffer. But even then it wouldn't be enough for him leaving Emilia alone with a small new born and fending for herself and the barely born Sophia.

Saphira's mother furrowed her eyebrows worriedly at her daughter's response. "It's not... don't talk about your father like that he was - is a wonderful man." Emilia said in a small voice. Over on the couch, Ares smirked. Saphira was his daughter all right, that was for sure. On the other hand, she wasn't a very good daughter now was she? Disobeying her mother like that. Closing his eyes behind his shades, he waited to see what would happen.

Sure enough, Emilia soon came back into the room, unaccompanied by her daughter. "She won't come out..." Emilia admitted. Ares opened his eyes. "I'll go speak to her, she is my daughter after all." he said as he stood from the couch. Emilia motioned for him to sit down. "You don't have to! Really! She'll come around." she said. Smiling, Ares shook his head. "I insist, besides, she just trying to protect you." he stated, before walking out of the room and heading down the hall to his daughter's bedroom.

He knocked on the door once before he opened the door and looked around at the style of the room. "Is that a bike you want? It's rather nice." he stated, looking at one of the pictures on the wall, ever wary of his daughter's actions, although he was confident that he would he able to dodge whatever she threw his way.

Saphira didn't respond to the knock on her door but when the door opened she threw a pillow at the intruder before jumping up, glaring at the stranger. He wasn't fat and he didn't smell but he did look like a biker, and she just gave her mother the list of what not to date. She didn't answer his words but rather went straight for the kill with a fist to his face. "I don't know who you think you are, but you are not allowed in here!" she stated angrily, skipping the punch entirely to raise her arm higher so that her elbow would meet his face instead for a double hit with the fist after the connection with the elbow. She didn't wait to find out if it connected or not, but she went straight for a kick to his gut or lower region, to get him out of her room, whether by dodging her hits or getting hit, he would be stepping out of his room and then she'd chase him out the front door and down to the street if she had to for him to get the message she didn't like him, more so now that he invaded her privacy.

Ares had simply backhanded the pillow away and ignored it, continuing to look at the pictures his daughter had decorated her walls with. When she tried to elbow him in the face, he simply sighed and raised his hand gripping her wrist. Taking advantage of her kick, he pulled her off-balance and twisted her arm behind her back, shoving her up against the wall. "Careful daughter." he warned in a low tone of voice, "It's not a smart idea to go up against the god of war."

After a moment, he released his grip on her and stepped away, crossing farther into her room. "You know, I shouldn't even be here, except for one fact. I'm expecting great things from you, none of my children have gone on quests recently, and it really is starting to get annoying." He stopped talking and turned to face her, crossing his arms across his chest. "And I've really waited too long to claim you. I did make that promise to claim my children when they were 13, but since the satyrs haven't found you, you got lucky, I'm coming to you myself." He stated, making it obvious that he didn't think she could do anything to him, and that he though her actions rather reckless, but was proud of them at the same time.

Saphira could only gasp and watch as he barely moved but made her move and shoved her against the wall, her arm behind her back. Since when could anyone identify what move she'd use? Even skilled fighters had a hard time keeping up with her. But before she could even think of the loser she'd chased outside and how she was going to kill him for this, the stranger spoke. His words caught her off guard. She was his daughter? God of war? This guy was on steroids or something, she didn't believe in god or any greek gods for that matter, they were fairy tales. "You're not my father, I don't know you as my father. If you were my father you'd be around, not splunking with other women and leaving my mother alone to take care of both of us and raise me. If you were my father, you would have been the one to be in my life. You were never and you never shall be my father!" she stated angrily, glaring at him after he let her go.

His talk of quests and his probably many b astard children not doing them, but she didn't know what the hell he was talking about, but no way was she going anywhere with the man. "I'm not going anywhere with you. I'm perfectly capable to take care of myself." she stated stubbornly, her own arms crossing. Obviously she couldn't get him out of her room, he just took the fact that she fought him for dominance of her space and defeated her, taking her space for himself. "Especially since you're claiming to be something from myths and fairy tales. You're just another jack-a** loser my mom picked up to try and bring in money to help feed us, and before I was born, she probably was just looking for a good time and a decent man to be with and got the good time part from you but not the latter. We don't need you and I don't need you. We've survived this long without you and that won't change. Let me guess, when you found out she was pregnant you took off like a coward. Preferring to play around with women who weren't pregnant. And of course you would keep tabs on our whereabouts planning to take me away when my mother has sole custody until I'm 18, which by the way is in 2 months, and also means I don't have to go anywhere with a stuck up, god complex, cowardly, biker jackass like you."

There, she didn't say he was her father anymore, no she called him her dubbed name for him and she didn't think she wanted to know he real name. Besides, he did seem a bit young to have been her father. He looked like he was in his early to mid twenties. Maybe her brother or potential boyfriend since he was rather good looking, but not her father. But she could tell why and how her mom fell for the dude. He was screaming dominance without even trying, plus there was something about him that put her on more of an edge than normal.

Hearing the words his daughter spoke to him, Ares turned around to face her. Had he not been wearing his sunglasses, she might have seen the rhetorical 'flames in his eyes', not to mention the fact that his eyes actually were flames, that at least might make her see the truth. "You're lucky you're my daughter child, and that I care for you. However, even I can lose faith in my children, you wouldn't want that to happen to you. The curses I can lay on you aren't pretty after all." he stated in an almost arrogant manner as her took a step towards Sophia. It didn't matter that she didn't believe who he was, he could still curse her all the same, still make her life a living hell if he truly chose to. Even if she was his daughter, Ares did not take kindly to being called a coward. In fact, she was only lucky that she was his daughter, otherwise she would have found herself cursed rather quickly.

Overhearing bits of the conversation, Emilia timidly opened the door to the room and stepped inside. "Don't be rude to your father Sophia." she scolded in a surprisingly strong voice, "He's not lying about being a god. That's why I don't blame him for leaving, a god can't stay with a mortal honey."

Ares nodded. "It was for your protection, yours and your mother's. The other gods are perfectly capable of holding grudges, and it's easier to take it out on mortals after all." he pointed out rather cockily. And of course, the gods could get jealous too, particularly Aphrodite, not that Ares had ever met a mortal woman who could really hold a candle to her.

Saphira turned away from the man claiming to be his father and her his daughter, and the fact that he was still claiming to be a god. What a stuck up jerk. But then her mother decided to barge into her room soon after and she dared to call this man, who looked not much older than Saphira herself, her father and then even tried to make her believe the fact that he was a god. Then, as if to be on his side and probably still love struck too, made the god excuse to say why he couldn't be here in her life and be a father instead of letting Neil come and replace his place as father. And now here he was trying to come back into her life with the excuse that he was protecting her all this time.

She didn't look at either person in her room, letting her hair hide her face from the man. "Say I believe you idiots for claiming that man to be the man who got you pregnant, to be my father, Say that I should believe that he is a god...why weren't you ever around? Why did you leave at all? Why let someone else take the place of father for me? If you are a god, what oh so mighty god leaves behind their family to be alone without protection that only a father could provide, the love every child and woman deserve or a care in the world to show that you were my father at all. Where's the proof that you are my father? Where's the proof you are a god?" she asked softly, almost sounding as if she were going to cry or something.

But then she turned and charged at Jedrek with a hard fist aimed to hit his face as hard as she could. He made her mad, more than mad, she was pissed. He made her wish that he had been there for her entire life instead of making her wonder where he was, if he even cared about her at all. And all because he called her his daughter, not even Neil could call her that so proudly, or angrily in this matter. "Where were you when I started school?! Where were you when I had my first boyfriend?! You have no right to claim to be my father when you were never around to be one!" she stated, almost yelling her anger at him.

Ares watched his daughter's reaction. It wasn't something he was unused to, many demi-gods had trouble believing who they were at first. It also wasn't the first time he personally had brought the news to one of his children, so he wasn't surprised, or worried in the slightest. He knew she would come around, they all did eventually and if they didn't? Well, they usually didn't survive very long in that case and all he could say was that he had done his best. After all, if he couldn't make them see the truth, no other demi-god or satyr was going to be able to. Although his children usually survived longer than those of other god, except some Athena kids. The children of the big three of course usually didn't last long at all, they attracted to many monsters.

Listening to her rant, he said nothing, made no reaction. He wasn't going to bother interrupting her, that would make it look like he was making excuses, besides, there was no reason for him to say anything until she was finished her whole 'you abandoned me thing.' She wouldn't be the first demi-god to feel that way. In fact, that how many of the demi-gods on the side of the titans in the last war probably felt. Of course, many of them were children of those traitorous minor gods. That was why that stupid brat son of Poseidon, Percy, had forced them to promise to claim their children by age thirteen. Not that the promise had lasted long of course.

When she charged at him, he sighed and stepped back, her fist whistling past just inches in front of his face. He was starting to get a tad irked now, but he did understand that she got it from him, and at least she wasn't a coward. Crossing his arms over his chest, he looked down at her. "Did you not just hear me child? I couldn't be in your life. It's kind of a rule us gods have. We're not supposed to interfere much. In fact, I'm not even supposed to be here right now, but those stupid satyrs haven't found you yet; although why they let them be the finders, I'll never know." His voice lowered to where it was almost a whisper, a warning, "And you want proof that I'm a god? I can prove it to you, but I can't guarantee you'd survive. You know what they say, 'careful what you wish for, for you just might get it.'" He began to speak normally again as he waited for her answer. "Oh yes? And I bet you didn't know that Neil, the man you look to as your father, almost died when you were three. In fact, if it wasn't for my assistance, he would have. That was something I did for you daughter, you should be thankful, Thatanos and Hades were not very pleased with me for that."

Saphira caught herself from falling because of her missed, or dodged target. Then he finally spoke and while he did, she glared at him, but listened nonetheless. So he was restricted by rules? He didn't look like the type to follow rules...hell she didn't follow rules for most of her life. What the hell were satyrs? He was confusing her mostly with words that she didn't understand. Why would she need to be found by anyone? But then his voice changed and she crossed her arms to hide the crawling goose bumps on her skin as he spoke in a way that shook her nerves. She didn't like that one bit, but she often did that same thing when she wanted to scare someone.

But then he had the nerve to say Neil's name....and then use him as an excuse that he was a good man, a reason why she should be all warm and cuddly with the stranger/father in her room. Looking away from him, she stared at her mom, almost as if to say 'get out....' or depending on how she'd interpret it, she may take it is 'I wanna be alone with daddy so I can have my father/daughter moment' and she'd probably take the second one verses the threatening one. Maybe she did want to be alone with him, but she didn't want her mom to see her so weak, she'll pass it on to her boyfriends and then they'll know her own weakness and try to use it against her, key word try.

When she did finally leave, Saphira surprised herself when she stared at her birth father and her legs moved on their own. He may have thought she was going to try and hit him again, probably from the hard look in her eye, but instead, probably surprising him in the process, her arms wrapped around his waist to hug him tightly. She wanted to know how it felt to hug her real father and be hugged in return or if he was the shy type and didn't do hugs cause he was too 'cool' for that. But either way, it was a start to get to know him. He'd probably think that this show of hidden kindness would probably be from her mother, but she didn't care. He came for her...and that was all she cared about at that moment. She got to meet him at last, talked, partly fought with him. Got all that pent up frustration out of her system with him as the target of its assault.

Now that it was all mostly out, the emotions came pouring out. Lonely, happy, relieved, and many others she couldn't put a name to at the time. Her real father, she thought who didn't care about her at all, was there, talking to her, providing a challenge while at the same time, the company of someone that was more like her than anyone else. But she wouldn't let herself cry...he'd make fun of her and then probably be angry that she'd put a wet stain on his clothes. "Will I see more of you now, Ares?" she asked softly, trying to keep most of her more teary emotions in check since Ares had broken through all her barriers she'd put up to try and hide how much it hurt to think he didn't care.

Ares watched as Saphira considered what he had told her, his face expressionless. He half-wondered as to whether she would finally believe him or whether he would have to prove it to her. He really hoped it wouldn't be the later, after all, he didn't have as many children as some of the other gods, and he did have high hopes for this one, after all, she had survived to the age she was without ever knowing about her heritage and without ever attending camp, it would be a pity for something to happen to her, which was one of the reasons he was here in the first place. He couldn't be blamed for doing something that wasn't even his job, in fact, Dionysus should be thanking him!

He watched as Emilia left the room, leaving them alone together. He turned to look at his daughter, wondering what she was going to do, keeping in mind the look she had in her eye. She wasn't really showing her intentions, nothing in her body language told him which way he would have to dodge should she try to strike at him. Although if in doubt he could always take a step back, although losing ground was the last thing he wanted to do. In fact, he almost decided to let his daughter hit him. Almost.

And then she did something completely unexpected, she hugged him.

Ares blinked a couple of times behind his glasses, considering what to do. He was the god of war! Not exactly one for hugs. However, Aphrodite had been telling him that he should act more caring towards his children. Once wouldn't hurt, right? It wouldn't ruin his reputation, right? Deciding to go with the flow of things, he tentatively wrapped his arms around his daughter in return.
