So I started sprouting mung beans and a mixture of radish and mustard seeds this week. This is my first time sprouting and so far it has not been a total failure!
I am growing them in a clean pickle jar and jam jar with cheese cloth as the lid and I have been rinsing them ever 12 hours. I somehow lost track of how many days I have been sprouting them (oops) but I am judging their progress on their appearance. I thought that my first attempt would end up in tears but it has been a few days now and all of my sprouts look as healthy as ever! I tasted some today and they were wonderful =D
I am so jazzed about sprouting that I even put in a second order at SproutPeople.org. I would buy them locally but honestly I've searched and searched and just cannot find sprouting seed anywhere. I am scared to use just any old seed, especially from the Asian or Middle Eastern market here because I am worried about Salmonella. It sucks that I have to be so worried about this because there are a lot of things that look fun to sprout at those markets. If anyone has some tips about acquiring safe quality beans and seed I would appreciate it!
So on to the discussion!
Does anyone here sprout? If so how long? Any interesting sprouting stories?
If you're not, are you interested in sprouting? Why or why not?
Thoughts on sprouting in general?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
