How do you feel about books being written on? (As in, notes in the margins) Or the corners of the pages being dog tagged? (To mark the place you last stopped)
Is it mutilation, or just regular usage?

I am not yet done.>>>>>>>>>>Well, to dog-ear a book is just fine by me. I did that before, not so much now. So long as it doesn't really destroy the page.
But I don't write on books if I can help it. Though I did highlight a passage in one of my fave books with a highlighter...and I promised never to do it again. Poor books...there are notepads and other such things for writing. <<<<<<<<<< WITNESS.

My books are pretty worn and torn from being carried around places and being stuffed in my purse or backpack. I don't mind things being written in the book, but dog tagging does bother me. I wouldn't want to accidentally ruin the page or anything.

a little wear from reading is fine, but i cannot STAND writing in books. i did it as a kid (i'd always write my name in them and stuff), but now i cringe every time i see it.
one of the benefits of a kindle... you can make notes & highlight without messing up the book!

I don't mind books being worn so much, as long as they are still in one piece and readable. It makes me sad to see pages folded and such, but I keep doing it by mistake 'cause I'm always carrying my books around in my hands (trying to protect them from the rain by hiding them in my coat) or in my bag (whichis usually crammed with so much stuff that it gets dangerous for paper). I have to be extra careful when I borrow books from people.
I hate writing in them, though. Some of my university teachers obligated me to write in them, but if they give me the chance, I'd much rather use post-its, at the very worst, or better, write things down in a separate note-book. I mean, annotations tend to make concentrating and enjoying the book harder, and you never have enough room to write much in the margins anyways. I already dislike the printed notes at the bottom of the page, so hand-written notes? It really bothers me. ^^' That's why I almost never buy used books, especially not ones for school.

I only write in books for school if we have serious work on it (only did it once for Of Mice and Men) Do you consider highlighting "writing"? If so, then I do that alot along with a bit of underlining. I do not like dog ears though =(
