Management runs the show.

They are business people.

They have friends everywhere.

They have legions of lawyers.

They take care of their assets.

They're safeguarding their newest acquisition with a body guard.

The Model

Richard Hughes, a young man came to New York. He took classes in the Culinary Institute over in Hyde Park, but didn't take to the long hours and the kitchen got a bit too hot for him to handle. He finished his degree, coaxed by Lexi, but decided he wouldn't continue that line of work. Late one night, in a dimly-lit back room of a fancy club, he gambled and drank heavily. Having made friends and hearing his story, one of the men smiled a smarmy kind of smile - offering him a once in life time job opportunity.

A day later, the contract was finalized. Seeing the sum of money doled out, Ricky didn't bother reading the thick volume and signed. It was modeling, how tough could it be?

Then he met his bodyguard.

Lynette Clark, self-proclaimed gossip monger and budding information broker, has gotten herself in a tight situation. With her father spitting on the reputation of the family’s failing company, she has taken the best job Management could offer her in return for the heavy debts incurred. The pay is mediocre at best, hardly enough to compensate for her pains and even less when she considered the millions lost, but they offered her something other companies simply could not –proper training and reliable protection.

She would bid her time with them until her name –Faust, to her clients –became famous.

For now, she’d deal with this insufferable kid they stuck on her.

Setting

Hyde Park, Dutchess County, New York.

A small town of 20,000 or so people. On average, there are 191 sunny days per year in Hyde Park, NY. The July high is around 86 degrees.

The town is designated as a historic due to many high-profile mansions: Franklin D. Roosevelt's Springwood, Frederick William Vanderbilt, Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill and other such attractions.

The Hudson River acts as the western border to Ulster County.

Within the territory is the Culinary Institue, attracting top-class restaurants into the area.

A family-oriented, tourist town.

Ricky shifted in the passenger's seat. Silence hung in the air. His body felt tense. Bay thick eyebrows came together: he clenched his jaw.

The model's dark eyes intently watched through his window. He leaned against the door as far as possible from her. His thumb pressed against his lips.

The car came to a halt. Eager for a breath of fresh air, he got out of the vehicle - slamming the door. The rubber safety made a hollow sound. His chest greatly expanded. His fingers ran through the amber locks of hair, overdue for a haircut -he noted.

Hyde Park brought back many memories, some good and some bittersweet. The young man leaned against the car, crossing his arms. Closing his eyes, Ricky tilted his head back -basking in the sun's warmth.

It was a beautiful day. "The nice weather probably won't last. I hear there's a tropical storm on it's way," his tongue clucked in disapproval. Just when he had a week's time for vacation, too.

He was not looking forward spending a week indoors with her.

Lynette ignored the restless shifting of the boy beside her. She would have drove them both to Hyde Park, if Management hadn't insisted on sending someone else to do so. There was really no need, no practical purpose, to hiring a chauffeur and indeed it would have just cost them extra funds. Knowing how stingy the company was --they had to be, for what they did --she could only come to the conclusion that someone high on the command chain was ******** with her.

It was insulting enough to be sent away on break. Apparently the Man really wanted to make it clear that she couldn't be trusted to handle even the most menial tasks. Piece of s**t.

Lynette flipped through her emails on her compact notebook. There were incoming messages from her direct superiors, of which she ignored almost as ardently as she did with Ricky.

It was maddening.

Ricky left the car as soon as it stopped. Whatever. She'd let him do what he wanted for now, maybe all that loose energy of his would find better outlets if she just stopped bugging him. She had one week with him. There was no rush.

She closed the notebook softly. A polite smile sat lazily on her unpainted lips, breaking the hard lines of her cheeks with a feminine grace. She looked over her wire-rim glasses at the driver.

"Keep your phone on. If someone dies, I expect you to be there ready for pick up in five."
