Disconnected

.... There seems to have been an error... Earth has been.... Disconnected...

Welcome to the NeW, or the New-era World. The year is 2069, and things have drastically changed. How? In 2012, the United States government was rebelled against by its people. War broke out across the world from other countries trying to help stop the riots in America, only to have said countries own people rebel in turn against their government. Nuclear war was threatened. Some places set up a shield known as the GRID, or the Guard Round Invisible Defense. The GRID works by creating it’s own energy from nuclear fission. The waves sent by said process keep the nuclear particles from breaking through and destroying things that the GRID protects. The GRIDs were cheap, and many governments bought them. Unfortunately, war broke out before the many of the common man could obtain it, and destruction ran rampant.

Today, a few well known cities survive, connected by a teleportation system known simply as the Transportation. Passcodes are used to travel from place to place, and while they are not necessarily common knowledge, they are easy to obtain if you know of whom to ask.

So this is the other big part of the NeW, The Mall is the central meeting point of all new characters. No matter what all the characters must be here for the story to really start.

Well Known Places

“The Mall” in Washington DC. Includes Smithsonian Buildings-
known now as “A Hole in the Wall.- it’s a sort of safe haven for people on the run. While there are no rules, there’s a mutual respect that serves as a guideline. Cora explains it by saying “If we let you stay here safe, you repay us by behaving yourself. You have three chances. Then we boot you through the transporter and if we see your face again we boot you outside the Grid.” Do to this Code of Thieves there is no crime, and very few actual social problems with in the Hole. Population is generally dense, but very few of them are regulars. Technology is abundant, along with power transferred and restocked by the grid. The Adelaide and Karvo families run the Hole. Liselle Karvo is due to marry Jason Adelaide.

The Tavern- Located in what used to be the Aerospace building of the Smithsonian. The Gift shop has been turned into a sort of bar, with patrons downstairs and workers moving between the two floors. The different rooms have been sectioned off to be rented out. All artifacts were moved around or into the storage area. Sariah and Jacob Karvo run it.

Food, no Thought. - Run out of the giant McDonalds located along the mall, it’s has almost any food you can think of. It has three world-class chefs on duty at all times, so food is ordered quickly. Tables consist of the bar stools. Booths, and chaired tables found in the actual McDonalds. Food is free, because the Grid travelers, who catch it wild, supply it at no price. Run by Cada nee Adelaide and Mark Brinson.

Cairo, Egypt- Cairo has reverted to an older life style. People live sheltered, with next to no tech. After the Disconnection, they blocked themselves away, destroying their Transporters, and locking their Grid. Prophetess, Hazel, is revered, but is only an icon. She’s been allowed into the Sanctuary (The library of Alexander the Great.) that holds all of Cairo’s technology. She knows how much of a better life the people could have, and tried to speak against the Church, so her tongue was removed. She runs a small rebellion, who stirs up travel, and unlocks the grid for newcomers when needed.

Tokio (Formorly Beijing), China- Very large population, and very high tech level. Most tech is modified to achieve greater potential. The people of Beijing are very appearance conscious, and continually use Gen Mods to change their appearance. The crazier the look the better. There are very few rules here, if any at all, so crime, while relatively juvenile acts, is very high. The mafia of the world, the Jewles, live and have their base here. Almost everyone is wealthy, but social class is divided by those who achieve their wealth honorably, and those who stole it.

Moscow, Russia- Lower population, with no crime and a medium tech level. Everyone here lives in a harmonic society, achieved because without everyone does his or her job, society would cease to exist. New comers are welcome as long as they follow the laws set by the elders, and help out in some way while they are present.

London, England – Paris, France - and Rome, Italy- All run by the surviving Vatican Church. Very High tech, with a medium population in each city. All connected by Transportation with out passscode. They are the largest force in the NeW, but because of the way they are separated they are not threatening.

Other places that are low tech town sized, and have no Passcodes to travel to include Little Big Town in the center of Texas, Aussii on the westerns coast of Australia, and Croquerie, in southeast England.

There are also places such as the Olde Family Ranch in Revo, New Mexico, that cannot be Transported in or out of at all. The only way to reach these families is through Grid Traveling.

Vocabulary

WORDS TO KNOW AND WHAT THEY MEAN

Gen Mods- Genetic modifications. There are two types. Life mods are living modifications that bleed and are attached completely. Life Mods feel pain, and are permanently attached. Robo-Tech Mods are machinery that is added to the body. Certain parts are permanently a part, of the body. These are called Ports, and the parts that attach to the ports and can be interchanged are called Change Mods. When together they are Robo-Tech Mods.

GRID – Guard Round Invisible Defenses. Most people call the invisi-sheild that protects them, the Grid, with out know what it stands for or how it works.

Tech and Mech, and the difference- Both are machinery. Tech needs human help to make it operate, while mech does not. Cash registers are Tech, robots are Mech.

NeW- the New-era World. The world after the wars. Currently we are 56 years into the NeW.

Slang? Well.. sort of...

What the Glitch?- sort of equivalent to saying "what the Hell?" or "What the F***?"

Bug! - Equvilent of screaming "D**n" or "F**k" really loudly.

Data error- saying this to someone means theres a problem.

Okay, well heres the people of the NeW

The Remainder

There are four basic groups with in the New

.The Urbans.

essentially the upper class of this new earth. They prefer a comfortable lifestyle, and very rarely travel outside the city limits, and even then they only ever use the Teleportation links. In Tokio, they would be the Ganglords, in the Vatican Triumvirate, the higher ranking Church officials. Many of the wealthiest merchants have also adapted this lifestyle. They shun outsiders like the Hawks and Grid Travelers, but are not above hiring them to transport things outside the grids and through the barren wasteland of old earth.

.The Dwellers.

The lower to middle class. They will tend to ignore the Hawks as a race of beings, but many are crafty and street smart. The Dweller markets are where you can buy most anything, and the Dwellers themselves are crafty people. But remember, everything has a price.

.The Hawks.

The gypsies of this land. They are made of the people who have lived outside the Grid, and while they most cities don;t lock them out, the Urbans and Dwellers tend to ignore them. Due to generations outside the grid, the Hawks have been known to develop mutations, both harmful and helpful. They are typically dark skinned and dark haired,

.The Grid Travelers.

A rather motley group of people, distrusted and considered mercenaries until their personality may prove different. Some make money are hired guns, and others work as archeologists outside the grid, and bring back artifacts to sell in the black market to the highest bidder. They could have been Urbans, Dwellers, or Hawks, but they band together as Grid Travelers.

DANGER! Leave at own risk...

Like any post apocalyptic world, traveling outside the grids is hazardous... At any given time you might run in to mutant animals, and there are areas covered in irradiation, that can create a serious risk to the health of your character. And remember, the sun is HOT!

Animals

Some are worse then other, destroyed in shape and mind, while others can become companions. Many are large and would love to eat you. Fight them off and you should be a-okay.

Irradiation

Usually not to much of a problem, but it tends to coat the ruins of abandoned cities. Thicker areas should not be braved unless you have proper clothing. Irradiation in this game is falloutesqe in that it can affect you positively or negatively. If you do enter anyways, roll 2 six sided die and the send me a PM. The first die determines if it affects you positively((even number)) or negatively((odd number)).the second determines how bad it affects you.

1-2 means a critical strike. You're in for a rough ride
3-4 medium damage.
5-6 you got LUCKY!

After seeing your results, I or a crew member will PM you what you have been ailed or aided with. Good Luck!

Q & A

Knight-Captain Reki
how nice to see something when its requested! Im really interrested now!

and of course, since im like that, heres another question.

there are most likely weapons, so what types are there? Are they mostly older bullet firing weapons, or more advanced, like laser, pulse and plasma weapons?

That's sort of an iffy thing. There ARE bullet firing guns, but they're rare and expensive, and you're unlikely to have one unless you're a grid traveler who looks gos out to explore ruins. And you have to be able to have access to bullets, whether you find them or trade for them on the black market. In shot they're expensive to maintain. But they're also the only weapons with the ability of a one shot kill.

the "Laser" Pistols of this world aren't made for killing, rather they're designed to stun and knock out an enemy. You CAN get them modified to kill, but the force of the laser in the gun typically destroys the gun...

Does that explain it?

Loving the RP flitter ! Especially all the well described terms, places and people. Can we start a profile thread for this, or are you still working on it?

Tokio... takes over China?! Well BUG! What's the Glitch?

I moved it to the main area, and Im in the process of cleaning it up! Should be ready by the time you read this...

Technically, Japan is a vast wasteland of metal scraps, and The Japanese migrated, blended, and when a gang took over Beijing at some point they renamed it Tokio.

xafantya

What exactly are the dangers of being outside of the GRID?

Hmm... Typically you only have to worry about weird mutant animals that want to eat you, a ridiculously HOT sun ((temperatures reach triple digits on a daily basis, but like any desert you have other extreme conditions....)) but occasionally especially in larger sets of ruins you run into, you have to deal with Radiation, which can be warded off by special clothes that are rather expensive, you can risk them but it could seriously harm you.... I think I'm going to create a post to explain this and have people roll a dice to see if it affects you, and if so how much....

I added a section above!
