I'm very iffy about this subject.
I lend my best friend books all the time, because she's proven time and time again that she will return them in good condition and in a timely fashion.
But a few years again, I lent my aunt two books from a hardcover boxset and never heard about them again. To be honest, I let it go for a very long time because I forgot that I lent them to her. But now when I look at the half empty box set on my bookshelf, it just seems so weird. lol (I'm in the process of getting the books back).
So do you lend books to your friends & family? Or do you tell them to check the library first?

My friends and I don't really have the same taste in books ): nowadays almost all the books I buy are Kindle editions and sharing on that is still pretty shitty so I don't do it

I lend books out all the time, but only to certain people. I have some friends that I know will read my books and have them back to me within the week, but others who I know will either never return them or return them in horrible condition. If I lend to the later group I usually lend out books that I'd be fine not getting back. My favorite/nicest books only get loaned out to the friends I know will treat them well and return them.

I've lent books to my friends before. Although they're always returned in good condition, they're not always returned in timely fashion. I suppose that's more because I read really fast, and foolishly expect others to do the same.

I lend out books to my friends, but I refuse to borrow them.
I have a kleptomatic tendency with books (unintentional!) and I also have a thing about buying a book in certain series before I read it, and then I will wait to buy the book until it is at least five months old, and then I will buy it.

my friends are not into books, they never put interest on it and to family, Yes I do, we are in the same house so I do not worry for it to be lost or something. Most of the time I am the one who borrow books to my sister.
