Chyone History Chyone began as an independent trade city on the River Chyone. Taking it's name from the river it inhabited, it's people settled there for the rich farmland and the trade that came with the river. Prospering greatly, the city began to spread to the hills and beyond. The first city in Peragote to have reached a million citizens, it faced two major problems in the long run. First, there was two factions trying to seize control of Peragote, the military and the Mages. As a large city, Chyone harbored sympathizers for both sides. It would face civil war in Rebellion Age: 4-109. The military perfected it's practice against the Mages, and the Mages would eventually bow down, and in return for some autonomy, they would bend to Military rule. However, civil unrest would last throughout the years until the agreement during the first magic war, giving the Mage tower of Elen Academy joint rule in the nation it commanded.
The Second problem was overpopulation. Chyone finally hit a sheer wall of population. At the edge of starvation, Chyone closed it's borders to all immigrants. Also birth laws were implemented. Every available citizen was drafted into the army, and many were shipped off to fight in wars that no one cared much about, besides local warlords. These measures were kept in place for the next two ages, lasting into the Age of War: 12.

Epirus History The empire of cities, Epirus is by far the largest of the four nations. Containing nine hundred million plus citizens, Epirus is a loose confederation of cities who united in their own fear of a Mage union who was threatening the cities with utter destruction. Epirus is formed by their main city, Falmenta, the only city in Peragote to contain over one hundred million citizens. The other cities, Ploqia, Parma, Kilant, Moosh, and Tamer all respect Falmenta's right to rule. They each have ninety million citizens plus.
Often diseases and famine is widespread in these cities. Having no stable food source either also threatened the Empire. So, in the Age of War 1, the Epirus Empire declared war on their farming village coalition. Easily crushing them, with the support of two Chyone Legions, the Empire began to spread out of their roots of the original six cities. In fact, three hundred fifty million plus people live outside the cities. It was also here where they would declare war on Grashone. Their fear of Mages lead to the holy crusades of Epirus. Ever since that point, the Church of the Majority has ruled Epirus with an iron fist.

The First Magic War The first Magic War is the most famous of the three. The five states of Peragote all participated in this war. The war touched the skies, the lands, and the seas. It started as a revolution of the mages in the two military states. Grashone, the fifth state at that time, was the largest state, and had no revolution of the mages. The Democracy built on Slaves, Grashone instead stood at the pinnacle of the powers of Peragote. They held the holy city Azchedvra as their capital. However, the paradigms of the war would all change. In the Age of the Magic Rise, year twelve, Grashone declared war on all of the military states of the Peragote. The Mage states sided with Grashone. This was to be the grand victory of Grashone over their two rival states, Chyone and Epirius. However, Chyone pulled a radical move. They declared that in this year, the Mages would have half control of the state. Not only that, but the Magic Academy of Elen would be given full independence from the military watch. As such, the first true Magic War began.
The Mage community, up until that point, had been a relatively unified community. They had a seat of power in Azchedvra, three states that supported them as the official power. They were led by Grashone, who was the most powerful state on the continent. A population of thirty four million, they could field an army at any instant that they wished to. Their allies of Sippar and Gedrosia. Both states were dominated by the might of their mages. The two other states, Chyone and Epirus, were dominated by the military might of their men. Over the years many wars had been fought, but always to a standstill. At the conference of peace in the Age of Lords, 98-109, they had split the continent into five pieces, declaring that war would never occur. However Grashone was greedy. They wanted more land, more slaves. Their populace voted for war with the military states. Thus, twenty nine years after the peace had been agreed upon, Grashone invaded the Chyone village of Sholack. Thus the first Magic War began.
However, there was two sudden seats of power for Mages to support: Elen or Azchedvra Academy. The Mage community was split, and in sudden civil war. Chyone, led by their General Avernicus, led a march onto the city of Liot, an important Sippar trade route of the time. With the power of their mage and infantry support, they quickly overwhelmed the city, razing it to the ground. Furious, Sippar demanded blood in return for the atrocity. Grashone hastily agreed. They summoned an army of unseen parallel. They summoned a force of twelve million, three times the size of both Chyone and Epirus's populations combined. However, Chyone was a single city state, with no way in the city besides a hell of a march through the city walls. The walls were neigh impenetrable. So, the leading Mages of Grashone choose to defeat Epirus. The metal ore found in the mountain ranges was quite useful to the mages, as they had magical properties that allowed better conduction of magic.
Thus the rape of Epirus began. The army ravaged the land, city after city burned down, all in the name of revenge. By the time the Chyone and Epirus forces combined, the armies of both Sippar and Gedrosia both had arrived. Thus, as the Lead Mages Simon, Callihan, and Finch stood on the brink of victory, they drank sure of victory. The General Avernicus however had other things to say about that. He launched an attack on the standing army. Scattered, the heavily armored and expert trained forces of Chyone killed Seven million troops through heavy bombardment, and the other five million troops scattered. Chyone had won the day with precise bombardment.
However the war was far from over. Chyone and Epirus both would not have a single Mage army step foot in their land again. However, a split between all the nations occured. As Grashone was blamed for the defeat, the Armies of Sippar and Gedrosia launched attacks against Grashone, weakening them greatly. Much destruction occurred, as the land was burned to the ground, and no area was safe for farming. Thus, the people starved.
Epirus wanted to continue the war, but Chyone declined to do so. Epirus marched onto Azchedvra only to be defeated by the standing army. In embarrassment, they declared war on Chyone, declaring them to have known that victory was impossible, but led Epirus there to weaken them. Chyone reacted swiftly, taking the Capital of Epirus, Falmenta. Epirus quickly surrendered after that, as Chyone troops withdrew back to their city.
Chyone made a major breakthrough at this time. The magical industrial revolution. Machines made things easier to produce. Magically charged machines made things just that much easier. A single worker was now a hundred times more efficient. Meaning that Chyone could now feed it's people with newly acquired farmland, and could equip it's entire army. The forces of change for this was the magical loom, Mana Stone Ore, and the gun. The new weapon of war was now a major factor in new dominance of Peragote. And Chyone controlled them all.
However Chyone never used them during the war. It was clear that Epirus was defeated, and Gedrosia, Sippar, and Grashone was just going to grind each other down. Thus peace once more controlled the continent. General Avernus was the only one given a hero's welcome back. Everyone else was executed. However, the war had long term effects
Sippar and Gedrosia would combine into one state, though it did not last, they have remained close allies throughout the wars. Sippar demanded Grashone blood, and declared war on them six times before the second magic war, which led to massive bloodshed on both sides. Chyone became the dominant force on Peragote, with a strong economy, and an even stronger military. Also, all the mages in Sippar fled to Chyone for protection. Elen became the seat of all mage power. Also, the tensions between mages and military forces have become so strained at points that fighting has broken out. All due to the treachery of the Grashone mages, who have since that fateful war, found out to be the cause of the initial revolutions.

Second Magic War The 28th Crusade- a war designed by one man’s insanity. The two men most directly involved names were stricken from history- a decree of the gods- because of how dangerous they were. Even the gods were scared to fight them head to head. But, as it is history and we are historians, we must tell the story. Now the Crusades were a part of daily life- coming back every now and then. However, the one known as the 28th Crusade (sometimes known as the Second/ Lesser Magical War or the Crusade Born of Hatred) was a far different Crusade. Truly no one knows whether or not it was the actual 28th Crusade, or if it was just a made up title. Most of our intelligence comes from the second lieutenant of the Crusade- Nalli Vedra, who left behind quite useful journals of the on goings of the campaign. She joined the Crusade early on, when the only intention known was that it was planning to attack Azchedvra- sometimes known as the City of the Gods (Even though no historical records or mythological ones have even suggested that the gods have ever lived there). The leader was described as a ‘firebrand and charismatic man. He drew recruits around him like a moth to a flame. His name is (the name is burnt out of the record every time mentioned) and it suits him well.’ This journal entry is dated Son: 17-19. Approximately 5 months before the Crusade launched. Two months later- a different objective seemed to surfacing for the crusade. ‘Today ----- mentioned a person. He didn’t give a name- he just mentioned a ‘spoke person.’ One who will defend the people of Azchedvra, and make us feel in the wrong- therefore making our first priority one to deal with this person first. And he will die.’ Here it is very apparent about how much of a sway the leader had over Commander Vedra. Of course, it is impossible to tell how much of the army were fanatics (and whether or not Commander Vedra herself was one) and how much was the army composed of people attracted by the leader’s words. However, a hazarded guess was a 71%-29% fanatic to unfanatic split- one that no source has yet to dispute. Now the every journal entry up until the last two was describing the war plans and the preparation. The only true import these have was the increased mention of the spoke person- eternally without a name. And we reach the second to last journal entry. ‘Tomorrow we march. It is impossible for them to not know we are coming- our approaching army has been thundering here like a storm. It would be quite obtuse of them not to notice. My area of responsibility has increased once again. I now am in charge of 17 groups- and 3 platoons to boot. But the battle will soon be over, and we will be victorious.’ The next journal entry is two weeks later- and it tells what happened better than how we ever could. ‘The Crusade crumbled around us. It ended before it even began. As we approached the gates- a man was sitting there. In a chair. Leisurely just sitting in a chair. And the army stopped before him. He was no gatekeeper. Instead all he did was look at us. And speak. ‘I am ----- and you will not enter this city as long as I sit here.’ But imagine- imagine! That name! That fateful name he gave! It was the same as our leaders! But our leader did not refute. He just stood there, smiling maliciously at the man. And the man continued speaking. ‘This man tricked you. He used you just to kill one person in this city. Me. All of his actions were to meet this end. He didn’t care about your goals or you ideas of justice. All he wanted was my death. But no. I will not have it. Turn now, and you may be forgiven at the end.’ And with those words, our army turned. The words- they were not good words, but there was something in them. Something that broke the armies curse. All I know as I ran- for the army started running, oh yes they did- was that our leader stood there, over the man. Shocked. Shocked that one man could defeat him and his mighty army. But I have never doubted the truth of the other man’s statement. I never knew our leader’s true name. This I know. Our Crusade has failed- our Crusade Born out of Hate.’ This is the final journal entry. It is never known whether this story is true. Commander Vedra has even been believed to have been admitted to a mental institution after the breakdown of the Crusade. However, what is known is that city of Azchevdra was surrounded by a crusading army, before backing away, with no lives lost. Everything else is left up to those who are, as of now, the long dead.
However the war did not end there. As it had been a Epirus army, Grashone led a swift counter attack. However the army, though it had been broken, had not been destroyed. Only Vedra had come back with her regiment. The rest of the army sacked and pillaged Grashone. Grashone destroyed Epirus villages as punishment. Thus Chyone stepped in. As the lesser magic war, very few lives were lost. But it's impact on future events is not to be denied. Chyone proved here that they had complete power over the continent. They ended the war by taking two cities from both Epirus and Grashone. After the fighting ended, Chyone gave them both back to their respective owners. However, Chyone knew some things that no one else knew. A third war was brewing. And Grashone would be hard-pressed to survive that war.

Third Magic War The recent Magic War occurred only a mere 20 years ago. This war is the only one so far not to involve the Nation of Chyone. They remained Neutral throughout the whole war. In fact, only Grashone and Epirus was involved with the war. It was also the shortest war, lasting a mere hour. However, it was the most devastating of the wars so far.
The First Event to occur was not war. No, it was the Chyone leading the Second Magical Industrial Revolution. This was powered by the flight, tanks, and mass production of magical equipment to mass produce equipment.. This allowed Chyone to equip their army to the best they could. A more efficient line of tactics.
Yet, with this invention, it slowly but surely slipped into the hands of Epirus. They used it to build an army and an air force. Opposed by only the Grashone air defenses, whom Chyone had given them oh so recently, Epirus's air force ripped through the territory. Inside their plane's bowels, lay explosives that had the ability to destroy a whole city. Another Chyone technology. Still, the explosives were inefficient. They failed to explode like expected. Except one. The one over the city of Azchedvra managed to succeed. Why that one was different is unknown. But the holy city was destroyed. Epirus military forces soon rolled into the Grashone lands. There was no resistance. Epirus had conquered Grashone in a matter of twelve hours. The rest of the world watched shocked. Chyone could only announce that if Epirus did not vacate three key locations, they would be at war. Epirus was not ready to fight another war that they would lose, so withdrew they did. One fell under Chyone control. Another under joint control of Chyone and Epirus. The last area was under Gedrosia and Sippar control.
However tensions rise once more. Chyone is seeing that Gedrosia and Sippar want to invade, to defeat Epirus. Chyone could also see it's position weakening. However, now, twenty years later, Chyone is starting to believe that war will strike again. Sippar and Gedrosia have begun to rearm their forces to attack Epirus. Epirus has their forces stationed along the border, not flinching or moving. Chyone is stationed back at it's city. The people fear war. But it affects little of the mages who live there. They will fight for their nation should the need arise. But for now, Elen academy stands as the power of the Mages. No school in Epirus, Sippar, and Gedrosia can match it's power or influence. And the rest, as they say, is history.
