"Simple willingness to do the work is not enough," Fei Yi announces, taking a roll of oiled and thick leather and unfurling it onto the counter. Inside, the silvery gleam of knives glint in the morning sunlight streaming through windows. "Even the simplest dishwasher can be willing to work hard. Skill and talent play a large part in being a chef, and one of the most basic skills a chef can learn is knifework."

One of Fei's hands slip around the handle of a sizeable cleaver and he lifts it, displaying it before you and the others. The clean steel of the knife gleams above the wood of the handle. "Your knife and wok are your two most important tools, and you should treat them accordingly. You must also make them a part of yourself, as well-known to you as your own hands. For this test, I will observe each day as you prepare some of the necessary ingredients for this shop, and I will make note of your skill and your speed. I am an exacting master, so I expect nothing but the best from my apprentice."

Each day, your character will recieve five ingredients which need to be sliced, diced, chopped, or otherwise prepared using knife skills. You will prepare each ingredient by rolling 2 10-sided dice and adding your agility stat to each individual dice (not the total). The first dice in a roll represents your accuracy with the knife. The second represents your speed with the knife. At the end of the day, you will recieve points in three areas, based on the average of your ingredients. The first area will be an average of your accuracy. The second area will be an average of your speed. The final area will be an average of your accuracy combined with your speed, to present a report on where your strengths and weaknesses are.

At the end of the event, the person who has the best overall score in all three areas will will this test. However, there is a final note: For days where you only complete a few ingredients, this will bring down your daily average. However, for days you are unable to roll at all, you will not be penalized.

We will take note if you are unable to roll for many days of the event, though.

Day One~
Xingyun eyed the pork on the cutting board in front of him carefully before eying his knife. He had combat experience but he had never really prepared ingredients for cooking before, he was hoping he could transfer the experience over and have everything turn out well, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves he began dicing up the pork. When he was finished he surveyed his work with pride. He had done well, for his first time but he knew he would keep striving to do better.

Day One ~
Xingyun was proud of how he had done with the pork but now it was time to work with the shrimp. Now certainly it shouldn't be that difficult, however, shrimp were much smaller than a slab of pork and he wasn't entirely sure how to go about cutting them casting a glance at some of the other apprentices he thought about asking them but shook his head. I have to do this on my own. he though and so he began to cut the shrimp into small pieces. Surveying his work after the fact he shrugged minutely, at least it didn't look too bad, he would definitely have to work on his shrimp dicing skills though.

Day One ~
So far Xingyun had been doing well with his ingredients, both of them had been meats and he was proud of the work he had done, however, now he had a vegetable in front of him and he wasn't sure if it would be easier, or harder, to prepare. Grasping his knife he went to work on the cabbage doing the best that he could with the little experience that he had. It had taken him much longer to cut the bok choy than he had hoped but as he studied his work he noticed that it at least looked presentable, that was something.

Day One ~
With the cabbage out of the way Xingyun turned his eyes to the carrots. This one should be fairly simple, after all, it was just a few carrots. He didn't dare get too confident though, he was still a beginner and he knew better than to get cocky. He set to work moving with as much speed and precision as he could muster. Once his carrots were finished he felt proud of himself once again, He believed he was doing quite well at this task, just one ingredient left to go.

Accuracy: 10 + 9 = 19
Speed: 5 + 9 = 14

Day One~

Finally he was beginning work on his last ingredient, onions. His endeavor had started out well, dicing the onion quickly and with all the pieces about the same size however, he soon noticed his eyes were beginning to water and he worked to finish his dicing before they made it so that he couldn't see. When he was finished he glanced at his work and sighed, onions were definitely not his favorite thing to prepare, it had taken him quite a long time and his work wasn't quite as good as it had been on the rest of the ingredients. Perhaps next time he would do better but for now he was just relieved to be able to move away from the onions, wash up and stop the watering in his eyes.

Day Two ~

As Xingyun made his way into the kitchen he was feeling confident, after his work yesterday he had done some reflecting and found that although he still needed to work on everything this particular task was on of the ones he had performed best in and he was glad. Eying his list of ingredients he picked up his knife and set to work on the beef. When he finished he nodded at his work with a satisfied smile before grabbing at the next ingredient on his list.

Moving the broccoli into position on the cutting board Xingyun began the task of slicing it and he was glad that it was a fairly sturdy vegetable, unlike the bok choy from the previous day. He worked quickly and with great precision and when he was finished a knowing smile crossed his face. He was improving.

A swipe of his knife cleared the sliced broccoli from his cutting board and he grasped the leek in his basket and placed it on the board next. After positioning it the way he had seen others doing it the day before he set to work. Xingyun was quite proud of himself as he finished with the leek. Three ingredients down, two more to go, and he was doing even better than yesterday.

Accuracy: 10 + 9 = 19
Speed: 8 + 9 = 17

As he placed the watercress on the cutting board Xingyun anticipated that this one might be the most difficult of his ingredients for the day, it reminded him of the Bok Choy and he found himself determined to do a better job on the leafy vegetable than he had on the one the day before. Sadly, once he had finished he frowned at his work. It was acceptable, he supposed, but not nearly as nice as his previous ingredients had been.

As he placed his last ingredient on the cutting board he could feel his eagerness to move on to other tasks rising up inside of him but he held it back knowing that it would distract him and distraction had no place in a kitchen. Laying the bamboo on the board he set to work dicing up the plant. When he was finished he frowned thoughtfully. He had thought bamboo would be easy but his prepared cuts didn't look nearly as good as the ones his mentor could produce, perhaps tomorrow he would do better.
