The Ten Prompts Contest

Introduction

I was going through some old ideas for contests and found one that I really like. For this contest, there will be (as stated in the title) ten prompts. Each entry will be graded using a point system (to be put up below). You can do either poetry or short stories, but short stories will probably be easier.

The prize is currently set at 20,000 for the 1st place winner, 10,000 for 2nd place, and 5,000 for 3rd place. The more entries, the more prizes will be given out. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO DONATE, SEND ME A TRADE ENTITLED CONTEST DONATIONS. PUT THE AMOUNT DONATED IN A POST (so I don’t forget).

Please read everything before posting!!!!

I hope to put this in the contests forum, but I am waiting on Crystalbow's approval.

The deadline is tentatively set at AUGUST 15TH so you have plenty of time, but don’t put it off too long! Get cracking!

I HAVE MOVED THE DEADLINE ONCE ALREADY! PLEASE TRY TO ENTER THIS CONTEST! THANK YOU TO ICY FOR SUBMITTING!!! YOU HAVE MY EVERLASTING GRATITUDE!

Grading System

This will be a 100 point grading system with a slight twist. Bonus points will be given out for different things, but more on that later.

There are five categories that you will be graded on:

15 possible points for grammar – as long as I’m not puking you will be getting close to the full 15. It’ll be really hard to get less than 10. So it’s easy points, don’t stress.

35 possible points for plot – this is why it’s hard for all of you poetry people. If there is a lot of protesting I will put something else in here that will be for only poetry. Otherwise, this is a pretty self explanatory category. You develop your plot well, add a few interesting twists, and keep me entertained, you’ll be great.

10 possible points for originality – give me something new and exciting! Try to avoid clichés. (I would like to mention here that plagiarizing is strictly prohibited).

20 possible points for creativity – this is kind of like originality, but also different. In fact, this is a bit harder. I’m looking for subtler things here. Catchy dialogue, unique characters, a different sort of presentation, etc.

20 possible points for response – does your writing get your point across? Does it follow your prompt?

Now there are a few bonus points that can be earned.

5 points if you follow a randomly generated topic. That is, when you say you would like to participate, you randomly generate a number from 1-10. This is the prompt that you will be following. You don’t need to do this, but if you do, you will get five points.

5 points if you wow me. Give me a golden line, and I will give you a nice bonus.

Steps to Submit

Step 1 – Read through the prompts carefully. There are ten total, so make sure you see each one.

Step 2 – Put the prompt that you have chosen in a reply. If you want 5 extra points, you can randomly generate a number between 1 and 10, and use that to determine which prompt you will do.

Step 3 – You can post a maximum of 3 short stories/poems. Just submit them as a reply. In this reply you can request to have your work judged before the deadline. I will give you your current points. You can edit your work to your hearts content after this, and I will update your points. You can elect to not have that done by just writing you would not like that. If I do a points breakdown, it will be posted for everyone to see.

Step 4 – Wait for the results. If you would like to give me input on the other entries, that would be greatly appreciated since I know that this will be a very hard contest to judge.

Just remember that winning isn’t everything! Good luck to you all!

The Ten Prompts

You can do whatever your little heart desires with this prompt. Whether you want to stick it in your story, or whether you want to use it as pure inspiration matters not. If you are having a hard time with something, let me know, and I’ll expand on the prompt for you.

Prompt 5: Pounding the pavement, legs moving faster, breath growing shallower, I was in trouble. If only I hadn’t…

Prompt 6: Write a story about a girl/boy who is a writer who just can’t seem to come up with a good idea for a story.

Prompt 9: “Let us make this planet a new paradise, for one and for all!”

I'm so glad this is finally up, right when I was looking for inspiration myself. :] I'm super excited about it. ~
Hey, it's the same end date as my contest. :D
I'll be thinking about which prompts I'd like to use. I don't want to roll yet, because about the time I do I'd come up with an idea for one of the other prompts. xD

PROMPT FOUR:
Once Upon A Lifetime:

Have you ever heard of a king who was two-thirds divine but one-third man?
Have you ever heard about the name Gilgamesh?

Well I tell you that the legend about him desiring immortality and lost the Flower of Life was not the only ending. It was the beginning of a new story.

After Gilgamesh died, the gods and goddesses assembled and pity his restless soul. So they all decided to reincarnate him intop a body of new person. Anu, the father, agreed to the idea in one condition:"He will be reborn again but he has to learn how to live like a mortal.

And so it was...

After a hundred years, a baby boy was born and after 18 years, he recalled things that were possibly his past memories. The last memory that he recalled was enough to prove to himself that he really was Gilgamesh. With the thought, he leaved his beloved parents who were begging him to stay and not just forget them but young Gilgamesh wanted to face the gods again and ask for immortality once more.

In his journey back to Uruk which was already forgotten, he met many people. He met a rich man who was to be said had drunk the elixir of immortality, and found out that the man was suffering not from illness and not from the fear of death but from sadness of living a long, healthy but fruitless life--he was all alone. On another country that he came across, he met a gipsy who has a critical heart disease that his life was shortened because of it. The gipsy told Gilgamesh that even though he had such fate, he never feared death but instead, the gipsy said: "I am looking forward upon my meeting with death. I would want to go now to rest and be reunited with my forefathers in the heavens above."

The young man travelled days and nights with thoughts on the people who he had encountered on the way. At last he reached his destination and went to the temple of Anu directly. Anu showed up before him and asked him what he wanted.

Gilgamesh said:
"I wanted immortality before, when I was almost perfect. But now, I want nothing but content. No, I am already contented so I do not want anything right now. But I want to thank you for giving me back life when it has escaped from my worthless an borrowed body. Now, I will go back to the parents I have and tell them how much I learn and realize about the world and how much i love them and praise them for their goodness to me."

Anu was pleased that he blessed Gilgamesh and promised him that Enkidu, his past friend, will be reborn again as his true brother. With that, he went off.

After days and nights of travelling, he was back home. His parents were very much happy about this that the celebrated. At night, they told him that his mother was about to have a baby and Gilgamesh immediately knew that Anu had kept his promise...
